The rumors concerning his brother, Jaxom, becoming a beta and actually having have found a mate and havng his own family was something that had, for so long, caused the tapered, white and black swirled male to constantly ponder over. There were times where he would mention to Taima about looking for him and, when the pups were older, going off and meeting him along with his mate and family but- lately, it was something that dwelled at the back of his mind in silence.

He had told Taima that he was venturing off to explore within the outskirts and the boundaries of the Tian Tang packlands hoping to settle his confusion and to bring some light into the rumors that many had spoken of. As for their older children and the new litter, Damu would certainly be back by nightfall and, hopefully, have something concerning his brother to tell Taima, Leith, Darius, Rei and Kaede.

Emerald eyes mulled over the vastly different vegetation as he weaved about on a well trodded pathway, snaking through trees and following along a small coursing river. These lands were quite different than those of the South Seaside packlands and it seemed more secluded away from intruders and the unwelcomed. It certainly was a useful tactic to turn away those who were not welcomed as even the white and black swirled male was getting frustrated and tangled in the strange hanging limbs of trees and the unusual scents that continued to bombard his nostrils. Wrinkling his muzzle as his black nose scruched slightly, Damu flattened his black ears against his skull as his black banded tail swayed back and forth.

"It's kinda eerie here," he mumbled, his slightly gruff tone kept low as he manuevered carefully through the strange woods.

Furrowing his brows as he continued to follow the river up for another fourth of a mile, the white and black swirled male sighed with great relief as a more "typical" setting of the woods and packlands seemed to stretch forth and expand out.

What was actually about an hour felt as if it had taken half a day! As his tongue lolled out from his open maw, Damu slumped his shoulders as he wandered closer towards the open area and drew closer towards the river. Falling onto his haunches and taking a small break, he lowered his muzzle into the depths of the river and began to drink from the cool, refreshing waters.

When he felt comfortable, he would continue on the search.

Within the confines of the tall trees, a small banner waved above the fern leaves that spread their green fronds to the filtering sunlight. The small banner was wagging a little, a flick of the tail as the body beneath it trotted along its path. The brown tip bobbed from side to side, up and down, tracking the progress of the little wolf pup below it. The little pup was Vashti, daughter of Faile and Jaxom. She had been tracking a very interesting smell that she had found just outside of her home den. She had thought her brothers would have wanted to investigate it, but they had wondered off elsewhere after their parents had gone off hunting. Vashti had got bored on her own, and against her better judgement, had started to follow the musty scent that smelled like a strange prey, big prey. Vashti was just interested in finding it and looking at it. She wasn't too worried about eating, so had decided that a little adventure was in order.

Poking her head above the undergrowth to determine where she had travelled to, her ears picked up the sound of water, running water. It matched up with the scent of water that was starting to permeate her senses, and it seemed her quarry had headed that way too. Deciding to leave the trail Vashti went in search of the water, which from the sounds she guessed was a river. Stalking through the underbrush, lifting her paws high to step over branches that had fallen from above in the trees and slinking on her stomach to get under the larger of these that were propped on their twig extentions. Her path off of the well worn hunting tracks soon had her within thick thickets of bramble that snagged at her fur and pulled on her mantle and her tail. She grunted with the effort of pushing through the plants, and just as she was nearing the edge and the ground started to turn wetter, pain flared in her paw and she yelped. Limping out, her left forepaw pulled tight to her chest, and skidded her way to a dryer place, where the ground leveled and a high, sandy bank oversaw the fast flowing river that cleaved the Tian Tang packlands.

Flopping down onto her stomach with a strangled whine, Vashti inspected her throbbing paw. Her eyes found the large thorn easily, and without hesitation she clamped her teeth on it and ripping it from her tender paw pad, a pained yelp leaving her maw as she threw the thorn haphazardly away over her shoulder. She licked vigourously at her paw, stemming the bleeding. She remembered her father... or was it her mother... she couldn't remember rightly which, but she remembered the lesson. If you get something in your paw, take it out quickly. Else it'll get infected and then you won't get it out and you'll be ill! Well, she'd followed the advise, and now it hurt even more! Grumbling about injustice and ill-given advise, she inspected her forepaw. How was she supposed to get home without getting dirt in it? It had stopped bleeding, but there was a big pink mark on the usually black pad that made her worry. She grumbled and licked it a few more times before sitting and watching the water glide by. Her ears picked up the sounds of animals further down the river taking drinks, but she wasn't too worried that she was in danger. She knew she was near the edge of the packlands, but she was still a safe distance inside it to be safe from harm. Anyway, what would take on a wolf pup in these woods?

Chuckling to herself, she scuttled foreward on her stomach and peered into the water below, seeing her reflection. Her large green eyes peered back up at her, black face and brown markings that were similar to her father's wavered in the water as she watched. She poked her toes over the edge, and giggled as the water-Vashti did the same. She stuck out her tongue, and was returned the gesture. She giggled again, and watched as the water-puppy copied the movements. Fascinated, she leaned foreward, seeing through the reflection to small fish fry beneath the water's surface, hiding in the lee of the steep bank. She wanted to reach out and pat the water, but didn't think it would be an exceptionally good idea, so instead she shuffled back to a safer distance from the water's edge, though left her forepaws dangling over the edge of the bank and contemplated what to do with herself next. That was when she picked up on the movements jus up river from her, a large animal, a heavy animal...

The cool waters were slowly taken into his maw and swallowed slow as its frigid yet satisfying sensation brought upon relaxation and a time to let his thoughts muse within his mind. Drawing his maw up from the small river, the tapered white and black swirled male found himself to stare into his own reflection within the water- his emerald orbs staring into the cast image of himself and of what he had become.

Damu was a strange wolf, no doubt, but his heart that was once a battleground had let love take root within his soul as he had found someone who knew his pains, who could see through him and see his worth. Simply stated, he had found a mate. Who would have thought that anyone would have wanted him as an eternal compaion? Even Damu doubted that anyone could ever love a beast! But Taima- she loved him! She had helped him vanquish the darkness within and had brought light back into his soul, restoring him into the wolf whom had always been anxiously waiting, yearning to be set free. Staring into his own reflection and upon the black swirls that tarnished his white fur, much like fresh fallen snow, the male furrowed his brows as a soft sigh escaped from out of his maw.

"If only anger didn't separate us before, perhaps things would be different."

Even as brothers, Damu, being the oldest of course, sometimes wished that he looked something like his brother. But why, why had he been born with pure white much like his father and his brother being born with the foresty, earthy hue of tawny brown? Aside from the orange Jaxom had inherited from distant relatives, Damu had tainted his gift of pure white fur by the fires and his betrayal against his pack; his rebellion against those who never did accept him which cost him the lives of his packmembers as well as his parents. Scoffing, berating, anger, malice- that was what always plauged his ears, the spoken tauntings of packmembers against him as only his parents and Jaxom stood by him.

But that never was enough to make his wounded heart start beating again.

With the painful memories and recollections of that fateful night bombarding his train of thought, Damu gave a flashing snarl. "Damnit!" He scorned, thrusting his paw into his reflection and watched as his image shattered the with the wakes that trailed across the once tranquil surface.

His composure became tense, tucking his head close to his chest as his black ears pinned against his skull while his eyes were closed tight, withstanding the tears that so desperately tried to free themselves and trail down from his emerald pools. As he tried so hard to repress the emotions, his wall faultered and the tears began to seep from his closed eyes and fall into the coursing river."Please, let me mend this past with my paws- let me find him, I need to set things right. Jaxom and I both need to put the past behind us." Shaking his head to free the tears that clung to his fur, Damu pawed at his eyes and wrinkled his muzzle. His tense composure loosened up as he slumped his shoulders and thumped his tail unpon the ground.

Just as he was about to stagger up to his paws, a sudden yelp seemed to sound out against the rivers gentle babbling and caused his ears and head to perk upwards.

An eyebrow cocked upwards as he waited a few moments, standing still as his fur bristled on end slightly. Was there another wolf about? From the sound, it seemed more of a puppy rather than any adult. Glancing from right to left with his emerald orbs keen and alert, Damu tilted his head slightly as his orbs caught sight of a small puppy down the river that was seated close by the waters edge. Uncertain of what to do, Damu stood there- watching and waiting to decide if perhaps the pups curiosity would draw itself towards him or if he would have to speak the first words.

It took Vashti quite a time to realise there was in fact a large white and black swirled male in the undergrowth further along the river. Her ears lowered, but that was the only indication that she was nervous. She lifted her nose to the air, but the scent of the larger wolf wasn't being carried toward her. She didn't recognise the wolf, but for some reason, she got an air of familiarity from the large wolf, his markings... his eyes as green as her own, eyes that she had borrowed from her father. Grunting through her nostrils, an 'uff' escaping her small maw, Vashti stood, a little gingerly on her injured paw, and lowered her head, tail wavering a little behind her. Was this one of the other pack members? She had never met another pack member, being stuck in her home den more then anything, and the family had not been visited by any of the Tian Tang number. Had this male followed her to make sure she was ok? Followed her all the way from her den?

Taking a cautious step forward, Vashti whined and lowered onto her chest, bottom in the air, before standing again quickly and just looking at the strangely familiar wolf. What was it that made him familiar? She really couldn't tell, not from this distance anyway. She could clearly see his outline through the bush now, now that she was focused on him anyway. He was large, a full grown adult, and he looked powerful. His fur seemed straggly at the back, like it had been licked into clumps, or something similar. She knew all too well fur could do annoying things, such as look like mud. She grunted a little in laughter at this thought and sat on her haunches, waiting for the male to come closer. He seemed to be hiding behind the bush, and Vashti wasn't sure if he wanted her to notice him. She took stock of the area around them, emphasising her movements, head rolling as she looked up at the canopy above them and then she turned her face to look out over the river to the other side, but her eyes trained on him from the corners. She was pretending not to see him, though not very successfully. She remembered when her father had played hide and go seek with them, and although he knew exactly where all fur pups were hiding, he made a big show of trying to find them.

Deciding she was too impatient to wait for the male to come to her, she got up and stretched her legs before walking toward him at a limping trot, skirting the muddy patch she had skidded in earlier and stopping a little way from him, sniffing at his scent on the river bank. He was a big wolf, and Vashti suddenly felt very very vulnerable this close to the big male.

"Er... hello there big-wolfy!" She said, nervous all of a sudden. She puppy-grinned up at him and sat, ears perked forward, innocent face all smiles.

His brows furrowed as emerald eyes seemed to settle upon her- watching her as a strange, vauge sense of familiarity seemed to linger within his thoughts and creep at the back of his mind. How odd! For such a feeling to feel so strong, so compelling, was quite unexpected. Shifting his weight from his forepaws as his muzzle wrinkled, Damu flickered his black ears as his black ringed tail thumped curiously upon the ground. As his gaze switched from looking towards the pup back to his reflection that had appeared within the river once again, the white and black swirled male snorted a sharp breath and took a step forwards only to find that the female pup had made the first move.

He jumped slightly, forepaws clenching to the ground as he pulled back his head and flattened his ears against his skull. "Wha-" peering down towards the deep, dark brown puppy before him, Damu knitted his brows and tilted his head slightly to the side.

"Oh-" he blinked several times, pursing his lips as what to exactly make of the situation. "Hey."

What a great response!

The white and black swirled male growled softly to himself. First introductions were a bit difficutl for him and, most of the time, took a lot of effort for him to get out of his comfort zone. This was certainly a challenge but, with time, the brute would warm up as he had a definate soft spot for puppies and that was a weakness he and Taima fell for often. Glancing back towards the puppy, the same feeling stirred within his mind as well as rousing his senses.

Looking upon her- the idea of family seemed to linger within his train of thought. Family? No! It couldn't be! What a silly thought! He grinned to himself, shaking his head minutely from side to side. That was certainly impossible! A mate? Jaxom? Perhaps but it seems that such a subject and occurance would take more time for his younger brother to find. But the puppy had those priceless, emerald orbs- almost replicated like his own and as well as Jaxom's. But if she truly was a spawn of his brothers, well- he would expect her to have orange; that bright, blinding orange that set his brother in his own style of individuality and unique look. Unfortunately, this pup was a deep, almost muddy, brown color and Jaxom was a tawny hue. Striking out a possible match, Damu felt his fear wash away and a more upbeat manner coming about.

"What's are you doin' out here all alone? Aren't you strayin' from your family?" Damu couldn't help but question- starting small and hopefully, or eventually, trying to shed some light on where exactly Jaxom was or if the small pup even knew who he was. A sudden thought brought upon a small frown upon his maw- wasn't this the puppy who hurt her paw? Slumping onto his haunches once again, the adult male let a tender and kind smile curl upon his maw.

"You're paw okay? You were limping a bit," he commented, the compassionate and fatherly side of the brute coming forward.
