Lucrezia, who was still waiting for her bones to thaw, picked a little table near the radiator and lead Charlot over to it. She sat down and leaned back in her chair, resting her elbows on the table. She was wearing her grip-wraps out of habit, but they looked odd in contrast to her winter street clothes.
"Did you get to make your debut in the big tent yet?" she asked, trying to make conversation and remembering that was an act she had really wanted to see.
She glanced over towards the counter where the server was doing some sort of weird fumbling with pots and spigots and then looked back at her companion.

The table Lu picked was pretty nice. Snuggled over against the radiator, it proved to be one of the coziest places in the room. Charlot took a seat, flicking the order card onto the table before stretching his long legs out with a soft grunt. He tugged his hat off, setting it aside before loosening the collar to his coat. It was warm now, and it was no use getting over heated just because it was 'less than 80 outside'.
At Lu's voice, he looked up and smiled. "Yeah, actually. It wasn't 'alf bad." With a modest shrug, he added. "Oi've got a few smaller shows t'do now, as well as all th'chores oi 'ad before."
"What about you? 'ow izit going?"

"Pretty good," nodded Lucrezia, loosening her grip on her cloak. She was no longer terribly cold. "Half-bad?" she asked. "I'm sure you were great." She drew one of her legs up onto the seat of the chair and glanced towards the counter. The server was approaching with a tray and two steaming mugs.
"That looks like our order," she said, reaching out and holding up the number card. The server plunked the mugs down on the table, took the card, and retreated behind the counter. She picked up her mug and took a sip. It was sweeter and stronger than she was used to, but good.
She nudged Charlot's mug towards him.
"It should be good," she said, licking foam off her lip.

Charlot watched Lu relax a little, easing into the casual conversation and atmosphere. He wasn't sure exactly where she'd come from, but it was a very.... serious place. Lu always seemed to be on top of things and sharp. He couldn't even begin to guess how old she was, he was probably off.
"Tell y'what- Oi'll be sure t'catch one of your shows.. and y'come t'see one o'mine?" He really wanted to see the actual performance, since he'd never had the chance to see one before. The thought of being up there in the high wires made him a tiny bit dizzy.
When their mugs arrived, Charlot gave the waiter a little nod, accepting the mug that Lu pushed toward him. Well, her drink seemed to be good- even thought they'd each gotten something different. He raised his cup, giving it an experimental sniff before sipping a little liquid off the top.
"Ah, s'good. Fresh coffee. Didn't get this back 'ome."

"Sounds like a deal," nodded Lucrezia, smiling and taking another sip of cocoa. It shouldn't be too hard, she figured, unless his act was like, right before hers or something. That could present a problem, but she was sure she'd think of something.
"So, your home's cold and has bad coffee?" she asked, quirking an eyebrow, in response to his comment.
Coffee, she vaguely remembered, was something the crew of the cirque at home drank. Nasty, bitter stuff, but it could make your hair stand on end for hours at a time. Maybe it was better with sugar. She wasn't sure.

Charlot grinned, giving a thoughtful nod to her confirmation of trying to make to his show and in turn his word to see one of hers. Not a difficult request, since he wanted to see it anyway. Even if he had to sneak out of a chore to catch it... no one would be the wiser.
At her comment of his home Charlot laughed, mirth rising into his eyes and casting a brighter green across the usually slate color. He tipped his cup forward, giving a tiny salute.
"Oi wouldn't say it was .... 'orrible alta'gether, but th' people like tea a 'ole 'ell of a lot more." He replied, setting his cup back down so that he could wrap his fingers around the mug. "Gen'rally, yes. It's cold like this... or rainy in the other seasons. Oi think coffee's a bit cheaper than tea... just a bit of grain swished around in a cup for a few minutes." He shrugged.
"Oi'm unsure." He leaned forward, placing a hand beside his mouth as if whispering something confidentially to her. "Pers'nally, Oi prefer lots o'sugar in me coffee. Takes the disgusting flavor down, aye?" He pulled a face, sinking back into his chair with a snicker.
"Wot says you? Coffee, tea, or uh.. cocoa?" He gestured to the cup in her hands.

"Cocoa, personellement," said Lucrezia, laughing at his confession and gesturing with the mug. "I've never had a change to really develop a taste for the other two. But cocoa?"
She shrugged and trailed her finger around in the whipped cream congealed on the rim of her cup. "I grew up in a circus. My father was head aerialist and he was in good with the ringmaster who used to import chocolate powder and sugar from the New World."
"It was always a bit of a treat," she said, picking the mug back up and taking another sip. She glanced around the coffee shop and out the windows briefly.
"Where do you suppose this city is?" Certainly like nowhere she had ever imagined, but not like Gaia or the other places they had been to thus far.

It was the subtle little things that made Lu sexy. She didn't have to be crazy overt about anything- the tiny little gestures she made unconsciously or the way she talked were enough. Her accent and words were interesting, a little like... French but not quite. Charlot pursed his lips, wanting a smoke but refusing to give into the urge since he'd have to step outside. He contented himself with drinking the rest of the coffee.
"Oh yeah? That explains why y'so damn good at what y'do then." The way Lu was talking about it, Charlot figured she was from the past or something... maybe a world that was much older than his own. "Yeah, cocoas not exactly t'most common item where Oi'm from either. Don't believe oi've ever had the pleasure of it's company t' tell you th' truth." He shrugged a little.
At her comment, his eyes moved to the window and admired the frosted glass encased city street behind it. It was kinda like his own place, with a few big differences.
"Mm.. not sure. It's setup a lot like home... maybe Daw-lee or the Ringmeister knows." The waiter appeared to take his empty cup and he thanks them, turning back to Lu.

"Never tried it?" asked Lucrezia, eyebrows rising. She looked briefly from him to her mug and pushed it towards him. "Here, have a sip."
She chuckled slightly at the comment about her skills. "The story goes I was climbing silks before I could walk." After a moments pause, she added, "I'm not so sure if that's true or not."
She stared out the window again, pondering. "Maybe it's around the same time as in your world? Or the same city, even?"

Ooh, sharing cups now. Weren't they just cute. Charlot reached out to take the mug, giving it an experimental sniff. Smelled like the bakery he used to sit outside of... all spices and chocolate. With one arched eyebrow he took a small sip, nose scrunching a bit at how sweet it was. Not was he was used to, but actually quite good.
He returned the cup to his companion, nodding. "Very sweet. More th'n coffee an' tea, anyway. It tastes like a lik-weed pie."
Charlot could picture baby Lu climbing silks like that. Suited her completely, achieving crazy things at that age. Crah, he couldn't remember what he was doing then... probably sleeping.
"Uh.. maybe?" He shrugged again, looking out the window. "It doesn' feel like 'ome.. but it's very close. Maybe there's an ice skating pond up th' way..." He turned back to look at her. "Y'ever skated?"

At the mention of the words, 'ice skating,' Lucrezia paused to think. Well, for one thing, it didn't snow back home, and for another she had no idea what that was. "Judging from what I've found out about my world compared to everywhere else," she said, rolling her eyes good naturedly, "It probably hasn't even been invented yet!"
At some point during her mental acrobatics, the server had come back and taken her mug.
"But I'd be perfectly willing to find out," she grinned, standing and putting her cloak back on. "Shall we be on our way maintenant?"

"Lik-weed, like.. uh... water?" Charlot smirked, eyebrows quirked as he attempted to explain. "Tastes like a cake?"
Lu stood, so he followed suite and scooted back in his chair. His legs stretched out and then he grabbed his hat, ready to head out.
"Mm, may be a bit late in th' evening-" He walked to the door, noticing how the shadows clung to the snow outside. It had begun to get darker outside and he'd completely lost the time. He opened the door, turning to look toward her. "..'ow bout a rain check on it?"
