Shaking dust off his head he leaned down by a puddle to get a drink. His ears flickered around so he could keep the proverbial eye out while he couldn't see his surroundings. It wasn't that he was worried that someone would find him but it always paid to be careful.
Straighting up his tail twitched behind him as he sat down on the cool dirt to rest a moment. Hunting was always tiering and the silly little antelope had gotten away. It meant a few hours of panting for him and another few hours, or days, of being hungry. Maybe he could find something if he stuck around here for a while. A few lizards or maybe a small rodent would be good.
Shifting back to his feet so he could get another quick drink he stretched out and yawned. It was too hot to try hunting again. After dark it was then.

The hot sky seemed to burn into her skin, as she continued walking. Ayoka had wandered into a land she was unfamiliar with, and she was cautious to make no more noise than needed. No sense in scaring off potential prey.
However, she wasn't very hungry, with the heat pressing down like it was against her black spots. Trying to stay cool was her first priority, and she glanced around at the environment surrounding her in search of shade or something to quench her thirst. It had been a while since she had drank, and her parched lips provided no moisture, not even her own saliva seemed to swell in her mouth anymore.
She trudged on, her white paws growing dirtier and dirtier with each step she took. If she didn't find something to cool her down soon, she was going to get cranky. Well, more cranky than she already was, at least.

He chirped quietly as he looked up and noticed a familiar bird hopping her way onto the end of a branch. Kasida had always followed him and around and he was glad for the company but some days he wished he could get in the shade like her.
"You do realize there is something white and furry coming your way yes?" She could see a little lion moving though the grass though with her perch it was doubtful that Zumaradi had seen it also.
He sniffed at the air and slunk toward her tree slightly. "No ..." He couldn't smell anything so the lion had to be upwind of him. "It's not big enough to eat me is it?"

Ayoka paused, and her ears twitched. Was she just imagining things, or did she happen to catch the somewhat-distant sound of a voice?
Crouching lower and attempting to walk quieter than before, she crept her way closer to where she thought she had heard the voice. Maybe her mind was playing tricks on her in this heat, or maybe she'd gotten lucky and found an afternoon meal. And, as a bonus, where there were animals, there was sure to be something to drink nearby. Her red nose wrinkled as she tried to sniff out any prey or creature that might be up ahead. It was hard to tell, with the grass's dirty and dry scent overwhelming her nose as she crouched, but she thought she caught the whiff of something...

"No. Defiantly looks more like it can smell me and would like a nibble." She fluttered her wings and stayed right where she was with Zumaradi under her to keep the lion from doing just that.
Now he could just see the lion though the grass. She wasn't camouflaged so well and with his eyes shaded by the shadow of the tree and his avian friend he could see perfectly.
"Stalking stops working when i can see you." His tone was light as he plopped his haunches back in the grass. The lion was far enough away that if it decided to attack anyway he could get to his feet and run before it ate him.

Her ears flattened and she let off a soft growl of dissapointment, hearing how she'd been caught mid-hunt.
"I wasn't hungry anyways," she mumbled, hoping her voice was audible for the unseen creature to hear. She rose from where she was crouched, and spotted the small tree directly in front of her. She couldn't make out the shadow properly, thanks to the glaring sun above, but the silhouette was definitely feline, and the voice that called out was definitely masculine.
So it looked like she wouldn't get that snack after all. Drat.

"If you weren't hungry then why were you stalking my friend?" He looked at the lion for a moment before he looked up at his avian companion. "It's not nice to eat people's friends."
"Silly girl." She chirped at the lion. "I'm not tasty. Too much fluff not enough meat"

She rolled her dark red eyes, hiding her slight embarrassment.
"Just because I'm not hungry doesn't mean I can't work on my hunting skills," she told him, matter-of-factly. "And besides... how was I supposed to know she was your friend?"
Hearing the higher-pitched female voice, Ayoka glanced around the shadows under the tree and quickly spotted the outline of a small bird on one of its branches. How had she missed that before?

"Practice makes perfect i suppose." He got up off the ground, or at least picked his backside up, and grinned at her. Good. One less lion that was going to try to chase him down for an easy meal.
"Though I'd think that actually being able to pounce on something would make practicing better. Otherwise how would you know if you were actually doing it right."
"Well you could have asked." Stupid thing to say really but she'd never been one to keep her beak shut. It was so much easier to just taunt the four leggers and keep ones self well away from their claws and teeth.

"I would have pounced, had I actually known what creature you were and where you were at!" she defended herself, still approaching closer towards the duo. "But when all I can tell are the voices, that's really not much help to me."
She spotted him now... his looks were much more visible now that he had stepped out of the shade. He was a cheetah, covered with hundreds upon hundreds of spots, and one large diamond on the forehead. No doubt, if he had wanted to run away from her, he could have managed it.
Her eyes narrowed and she turned towards the bird, which was still in the shadows. "Now, why would I ask potential prey if they were friends or not? Seems quite pointless to me."

He snickered slightly. "I guess that's better than knowing you weren't going to pounce on me." If she hadn't been going to then he'd have to wonder about her family. Lions should have been better at teaching their children than that.
"Mmn...... you wouldn't. Least you're not stupid." She fluffed her feathers and tilted her head to look down at the lion. She noticed Zumaradi glaring at her and chirped indignatly.
"Don't look at me like that!"
"Then don't be rude"

Ayoka chuckled to herself, listening to these two talk to one another. It would seem the cheetah was having issues controlling the mouth of his feathered friend, who didn't seem to have any problem with speaking her mind.
"Now," she said, coming to a stop as she now stood within feet of the duo, "What are you two doing out here in the middle of nowhere in this heat? I'm rather new to these parts, but it would seem I'm still in an inhabited area of land."
Her lips were still parched, and her eyes roamed around for anything to help them. Down in the corner of her peripheral vision, she noticed the small pond-like area. The heat really must have been getting to her, if she hadn't had spotted it before.
"Pardon me," she mumbled, refusing to show her ruder side, and walked over to bend down and take a drink. She half expected the cheetah to bolt as she gave him the opportunity, but with her having already shown disinterest in hunting him, rather hoped that he would stick around. She hadn't spoken with anyone in so long, no matter what creature they were, and it was refreshing to finally be able to use her vocal chords once again, even if it was to defend herself from the tauntings of a little bird.

He straightened up as she moved closer, prepared to flee should he have to, but calmed back down as she just walked past him toward the pond. So she just wanted a drink.
"There's plenty around if you know where to look. I'd think that most everyone has found shade for the time being." He had a small patch where he was and it plus the water were the only things saving him from the sun.
She shook her head and clicked her beak. Silly little quadrupeds and their inability to get anywhere fast. Well Zumaradi was fast but it wasn't the kid of fast she was. He was basically stuck here until the sun gave up a little.

After quenching her thirst, she licked the few droplets of water that had strayed down her chin and turned back to the duo.
"I'm afraid I'm one of those who wouldn't know where to look," she said calmly, tossing a glance back in the direction she had come from, "I'm rather new to these parts, so I don't exactly know where I am or where I'm going. More of a wanderer, I suppose."
She tilted her head curiously as the little bird made an odd clicking sound. "Do you dissaprove of me, then?" she asked, curious as to her head shaking and sound making.
