OK, so I REALLY love ancient egypt...i mean really. Now, for a while i had a dream that i could someday be an egyptologist and i still do wish that very deeply! I can even formulate simple heiroglyphic sentences! But then i found out that the egyptian government is AGAINST jews! I know that people are trying to fix the government, but how am i suppost to fufill my five year dream of being an egyptologist with out ever being able to set foot anywhere near an actual pyrimid! And now i cant even go to the university of cairo for fear of getting my head blown off! crying

Uh... I wouldn't think that modern-day Egypt would be entirely anti-Judaism. If they were, they'd get no tourists, which is because Israel is pro-Judaism, and that Jews go to visit Egypt from Israel all the time.

Not all Egyptians are anti-Israel. Or anti-semetic for that matter.

In my opinion, if something means a lot to you then you should persue it. As long as you don't jump in head first and know the possible consequences.

If you give up your dream of being an Egyptologist because someone doesn't like your religion, it must not be that important. You can still study Egypt, still learn its history and culture, without ever going there. Don't give up.

But really. Unless you're extremely Orthodox, how are they going to know you're Jewish in the first place?

You should go for it anyway. Don't let anyone get in the way of your dream. Actually, I plan to go to Egypt eventually too, if I could get to do archaeology there ^_^ Just tread carefully. You don't need to let people know that your Jewish. But even f you did, as Amitzah said, not everyone in Egypt in anti-semetic.

No one said you'd not be allowed to set foot near a pyramid?! I think that's a bit of an overstatement saying your head will get blown off! You just have to be cautious, not paranoid.

you shouldn't let peoples ignorant feelings stop you,all that is doing is giving them power to control you.

if egypt is trying to fix it then give them a chance
like amitzah said not all egyptians are against judaism

do what you want to if you want to become an egytologist then become one. when i was like 7 or 8 that is what i wanted to do, i love ancient egypt too i love ancient cultures over all but ya know

finally 5 years is a long time for stuff to happen, so maybe get all your schooling done then go when you have the knowledge that you need ^.^

I think you're freaking out a little too early. It's true that there is heavy anti-semitism in Egypt right now, but that won't prevent you from going to see the pyramids and other tombs with heiroglyphics. As far as the University of Cairo goes...that's something you will have to decide for yourself. You don't have to study in the Univ. of Cairo just because of your career goal; you can study Archeology at any other school and still be able to persue your dream.

ancient Egypt is one of my deepest interests, and I plan to visit the Pyramids myself.
I was in Sinai when I was 16, and people from here (Israel) go there all the time, allthough its pretty different from the rest of Egypt.

I stayed in Sharm El Sheikh, where there are only tourist because it is a resort, so there it was fine! Everybody was so friendly, it was really sad when the bombs occured there, because it was so close to my hotel.

We also went to Cairo, now here we stayed at two hotels. The first hotel was opposite the Giza Pyramids, and unfortunately, the locals in this area were rude when serving us. However, at the other hotel near the city centre, everybody was more than greatful to help, but I guess that hotel was the Four Seasons.
