Name of Nightmare: Paimon
Fear: Arrogance
Home: Wander
NM's Personality: Paimon is, in one word, arrogant. He wants everyone to bow to him and he longs for power. He sees Jace as an extension of himself.
Name of Human: Jace
Human's History: Jace used to be somewhat athletic and easy-going, until he started realizing how far he was drifting away from his twin brother. Slowly, he began getting quieter and quieter, separating himself from people, disliking when others would acknowledge him without his brother. He started thinking that he had no right to become his own person. His grades began to slip and he let himself slide behind his brother like an identical shadow, afraid of doing anything to become the more noticeable of the two.

My brother moved through dooms of love...

Jace sighed and shook his head. He had no right to paraphrase the work of e.e. cummings. He was less than no one, and cummings was... well... that and he would do a poor job, shaming his brother. Words were paltry...

As the fifteen year old walked past the bathroom, he glimpsed himself in the mirror and something compelled him to stop and look, despite the burning fear of seeing himself alone, bereft of his brother. Then again, looking at himself was not unlike looking at his brother. Looking in the mirror was (in truth) exactly the same as looking at James, since the two were mirror-image twins.

He looked at the mirror, peering closer to inspect his honey-brown eye. He loved falling into it's warmth, imagining the taste of bees-riches on his tongue. One hand moved up and he watched as his mirror-image explored the contours of his face, wondering at the way his nose curved and his brows arched. Her found himself following the hand to stare into the other eye, the one that was grey-green, like ocean water. So pretty...

Such a handsome boy...

It was the first time he'd heard the voice while awake, that snaking, smooth, pompous tone... It made Jace jump slightly, his pupils dilating and eyes growing wide.

We are handsome boys, he insisted towards the voice. My brother and I. After all, this isn't just my face: it's ours.

Poor boy, having to share your likeness with someone not nearly as smart or perfect as you.

No... my brother is a very good person... He's a great athelete... and he gets good grades...

He has a crooked nose, and he goes pale at the sight of blood. The baby.

Shut up! It's not his fault! And his nose isn't crooked. It's the same as mine!

Yours is sooo much better... Though not as nice as mine, as you'll soon see...

What do you mean by that?

But the voice only chuckled in reply, sending shivers shooting down the boy's spine.

He did not know where he was. It was dark, night, but not the night he was used to. It seemed oppressive, weighing down on him, pressing against him with its lack of stars and lack of moon. It was so terribly dark that he wasn't even certain he was outside. Only, had he been within something, wouldn't he have felt the edge by now? He'd been stumbling through the pitch black for so long he had begun wondering whether he'd imagined everything before, whether he'd ever really seen sunlight or laughed at a joke... whether he even had a twin brother...

It was that last that made him shake his head with grim determination. Never had a brother? Of course I have my tin. Otherwise, what would I be? Not himself, not even a shadow of himself. It would take more than a bit of om,nipresent nothingness to make him doubt his brother. James was real, more real than anything, whatever it might seem. They were one, but James was easily the leader, the only one of the pair who would be anything were one twin gone. His brother was... everything...

Shadow of nothing dancing 'gainst the wall. I live, only because another still moves. I exist, though not as my own.

"Only exist? No, you should thrive. Thrive and have that worm who dares share your physical form! Light appeared. And I saw him, the owner of the voice I'd heard first over a month ago.

He was tall, much taller than myself, and there was something primeval about him. His sun-touched head was bald as an egg, with a strong nose and sharp blue eyes, a prominent chin. His body was muscled and lithe, golden rings glittering in his ears. There were purple tattoos over his head, starting on his face-- below the eyes, his bottom lip, down his nose, leading up in swirling patterns over his smooth scalp and down his throat, around his shoulders, trailing away over his upper arms. Down his strong chest, to his waist, and then his body melded with something else, something feline and very large, caught between leopard and jaguar. Golden fur that glistened in the low light, rosettes standing out starkly against the fur. Near the end of a thick, strong tail was a golden band, an amethyst dangling from it. It rested against the hold of the torch his tail was wrapped around, the source of the light. In one hand, he carried a spear that was of a height with him, the metal point tied to the length with purple thread.

Jace found that he couldn't quite breathe right, faced with this larger than life-- what was he, seven feet tall?-- being full of power, grace, and arrogance. His fear made his tongue stick to the roof of his mouth.

"What? Cat got your... tongue?" The being lifted one heavily clawed foot at the word "cat".

"Who..." the boy began, shaking his head and swallowing hard. "What are you?"

The big creature leaned on his spear, hands wrapped around it, resting it against his shoulder as he grinned, showing sharp teeth to the light. "I am Paimon. You could call me a..." he gestured with one hand as he spoke the next word, then returned it to its place, "manifestation... of your fears grown too strong for you to control. I am a demon."

"What.. what fears?"

"Why, your fear of how wonderful you are, of course."

His heart skipped a beat. This beast had come to him because he was afraid of overshadowing his brother? Surely that was absurd... and yet... and yet, it made sense, since that very thought made fear prickle throughout his body. If he separated from his brother, what and where would he be? He would cease to be himself. He would be alone... he would be... nothing... And that fear had created this being? No... that was absurd. And yet...

He shook his head once more, trying to push his thoughts beyond the cycle they were moving along. Instead he forced himself to think of what was going on at the moment, focus on what was tangible. "Where are we?"

"A cavern. A rather large one, but I thought it would do nicely for our first... meeting. Isn't it perfect?"

Nothingness surrounding his fear or arrogance? Yes, it was very suiting. And very creepy that this being knew him so well when this was their first real meeting.

"How did I get here?"

The grin widened, reminding him of a feral version of the cheshire cat. He couldn't help it... he started to run. Laughter followed him, pursuring him, flaying him with its very self-satisfied manner, haunting and filling him even after he woke.
