Once I have some full body pics of me in pirate costume I shall be sure to share them. I do make costumes for friends but haven't had anyone interested in buying one yet so for the most part it's me in my costumes. A headshot of me as a pirate I like how this dress looks but it is so heavy! A blue and gold dress I made. I wore this at the Ren. Faire. The pin was a gift for my now ex-boyfriend. The text on it reads "Got Booty?"

That red and gold dress is really neat. How long does it usually take you to make a costume? Do you work exclusively from patterns?

Thanks. biggrin
How long it takes really depends on what I'm making. If it's a simple skirt I can usually finish one in a day. If it's a full costume it can take me a few weeks to a few months depending on the complexity.
I work a bit from patterns as well as some patterns I've drafted myself. I'll usually draft my own skirts and pants patterns. I have wide hips so I often have to do that so the costumes fit correctly and don't bunch up around my waist.

Are there special places you go hunting for good costume patterns?
I'm thinking of making my avatar's costume for Fanime (I'll probably be working at the Gaia Online booth), and I've done a little cosplay in the past, but I've always had to do it from really shitty patterns I've drafted myself (shitty because I am a noob). I have a terrible time finding patterns. D:

The pattern sites I often visit are Simplicity and McCall's and Butterick You can order the patterns online and quite often get free shipping on them. If you need any help in putting the costumes together I'd be glad to help. I'll be going to Fanime with a friend. Maybe we'll see one another there.

I want to meet as many Gaians as I can at Fanime. My friends Lys and Wen (Wen-M from DA) will be there, too. o_o

I'll be wearing my pirate costume to Fanime. Hopefully we'll be able to meet each other there.

I'm a fan of hats -- I'd like to see a clearer photo of the hat in the first pic.

Some new pics of me in my pirate costume. It was ugly weather outside so we had to take the pics indoors. They're not the best pics of me but oh well. I'll be starting in on making a black dress soon. Two of my new drawings. This one is of my first RP character Emma Rose. She was created for a Star Trek: Enterprise RP. She's drawn entirely in ballpoint pen. Something I drew of two of my story characters. I really need to get in gear and work on them more. I know it's off but I liked the drawing so much I decided to finish it and live with the little oddities.

I like how sweet your drawings are, they seem warm, which is a nice change from a lot of what we do here. They don't turn form very well, though - it's like, the outlines are more like symbols of what they are than an actual drawing of what they are, if that makes sense?

It makes some sense and yet doesn't at the same time. A lot of my artwork has it's symbolism as well as tells it's own story. My art teacher once told me the same thing.

lol, i love it when people resemble their drawings. XD
Line is basically a tool used to describe form, and attention should be payed to what the line is attempting to describe as far as shape, value, weight etc.I guess Iconoclast means that your lines describe the object well enough (shirt vs mouth vs eyeball) but don't really describe the form of the object well.
contour line exercises where you can't lift the pencil from the paper are good, you end up with everything clearly outlined...then when you start to pay attention to value and depth you can pick up on where lines are more necessary or not and you can play with thickness and stuff..the first drawing shows the use of implied line, but not very skillfully.
However, i would say that it's very good of you to be including things like background because it means your starting to understand composition as a whole. i guess a lot of people (*cough*, like me) start out focusing more on the figure and ignore any initial developement of setting.

I look like the characters I draw? Now there's a scary happening... wink
With me I've got to include some sort of background. If my characters are "floating" around in the air it drives me nuts until I put something or another back there.
Interesting idea with the line comment there. I had never considered that before. My old art teacher liked the style and said that I should run with it because it made me and my art unique.
