could someone tell me how to pull off some alchemy to get me started?

I have a book on alchemy that I was reading...

Modern "alchemy" is simply a metaphorical extension from the physical world to the soul. So, for example, instead of transforming lead into gold, it's all about making your soul more.. golden.. if you will. It's about self-improvement.

Well... Alchemists of old tried turning lead into gold because they believed with the same technique on themselves, same chemicals and all, they could turn their soul into gold, because of the confusion with metaphors. MANY alchemists died of mercury poisoning due to this. Sad times.
