Seishuko looked into the peice of polished metal he used as a mirror for a very long time. He was about to do something that worried him. That scared him. But it was time for he, himself, to taste the freedom of being maskless.
Really, it wasn't all that bad being in the mask. Yes, it dampened his abilities, but that could also be as much a boon as it was a bain to him. The weakness limited him in his natrual abilities, but it also weakened his ability to block others thoughts easily. It was something he was starting to realize. Without the mask, he could recover faster. But would he still be able to communicate as he had been with the others?
He had really enjoyed being able to 'talk' to others in a way they could comprehind. A way better than with images that didn't garentee they knew what he wanted them to know. Then again, even with words, that wasn't always possible.
With a sigh, he moved away from the metal, going to his table where a small box sat. There were markings, runes, carved into the box and a paper wrapped around it. Sei was never good as spoken spells, for given reasons. However, he was good at written ones. And he had finally found the solution to a problem. One that made him feel better for his own selfish desire.
Was it really a selfish one? Didn't they all want to be rid of the curse? And didn't they fear it at the same time? Now he knew that feeling they had gone through.
He turned from the table and went to where his cloak and staff were, grabbing them, and heading out of the shack. He needed a walk. If he did take it off out there and something bad happened, then the box would be safe. Charlie knew where his home was, and could bring someone to the box. The paper around it explained everything that needed to be explained.
Idoly his mind wondered to Lyra. What was she doing now? How did she enjoy being free of the mask? He was starting to wish she was around so he could talk to her again.
She was going to leave. Leave this dreary, boring planet, leave her family, her mistakes... and her memories. All of it would be behind her. Lyra sighed and leaned back against the trunk of the tree, letting one leg dangle over the side.
Then why wasn't she gone yet? It wasn't as if she was planning on telling anyone in the camp. Let Nika do whatever the hell he wanted to try and scrounge up the old ways. This was no kingdom. This was a handful of teenagers that would do whatever they wanted to. No matter who called himself their king. And it would never be the same again.
So why wasn't she gone?
He paused in his walking as a familiur send crossed his nose. Perfume. A small smile went to his lips as he looked for the owner and spotting her leg.
'Was hoping to find you, Lyra.' He said softly, heading for that direction. He really didn't want to do it alone. Not like the rest of his life.
"I don't know why." She said almost waspishly. "I would have thought this was your idea of heaven. No courts, no balls, just nature and teenagers." It bored her.
'I've come to find it.... boring.' He told her almost guiltly, leaning with his back against the tree. 'It was nice the first time around. But now.... want more.'
This time he didn't have fear of the ones who hurt him. He could take care of himself and he had found a real use for his type of magic. He loved his sister, but now he saw how much more he had missed and how much he had hid from. And he didn't want to hide from it longer.
"It's true." She said. "But what are you going to do about it?"
'Remove this.. mask.' He said irritably, fingering it. 'And possibly travel. Want to see the stars and what's beyond.'
'What are you planning?' He then asked, looking up at her for a moment.
She hesitated, then crossed her legs and looked up at the sky. "I think I'll see what's out there, as well. Conquer my own planet instead of lusting after my brother's. I suppose you'll be wanting to go with me, won't you."
'Would like that, but... I doubt you would enjoy it as much.' He said lightly and started to rub his walking staff with his thumb. He was getting too hopeful that she'd let him tag along.
Again, old habits were kicking in, but this time he had attached himself to Lyra.
"It's true..." She said again, but more thoughtfully. "With you around finding lovers might be more... difficult." To put it lightly. "And every time I see your mask I'll think of this... place." She went on.
"No, I think I should go alone. Tell my dear brother that I won't miss him, would you?"
'I'll be taking the mask off. Was going to do it today. Don't want it on as I travel.' He told her, having half expceted that answer. Then he started to sink down so that he sat under the tree.
'Were you afriad when I started to take off your mask?'
"What do you think, Sei?" She asked.
'Yes is what I think. Eger as well.' He said, looking up at her. Some how that gave him a bit of comfort. 'Wont see you after this, will I?' Yet another question he figured he knew the answer too. But he was going to do it, even if he had to hunt her down in space.
He was acting like a fool and he knew it. Not at all like his normal 'in control' self. It was rather unsettling.
"Probably not." She said with a shrug. "At least not for a while. Will you miss me?"
'I wont miss you. I will hunt you down.' He said, smirking under his mask. 'Would be a fun hunt. Look forward too it.' Now it was his turn to chase after her? She had chased him in the past and he had enjoyed that.
"You think you can catch me?" She asked. "I don't think so."
'It's worth a try.' He said, shrugging slightly. 'I plan on kissing a girl once the mask is off.' The chase had probably gone on to long and she might be lost to him again. But he wasn't willing to give in that easily.
One hand went up, rubbing over the mask.
"Oh?" She asked. "I'm sure one of those nice girls in the camp would be ready, willing and able." She said, not moving an inch.
'Never wanted them. Only wanted you. Ever since I was little.' He admitted, shrugging slightly. She'd run from him, he was sure, but if something did happen, at least he told her.
She flinched. Visibly. "Don't remind me of that, Sei. I'd rather forget that that lifetime ever happened."
'So that's the real reason you want to leave me behind. I'm a reminder of what was...' He said, going quiet for a moment. 'I want a new life as well.'
She didn't reply, but she didn't leave, either. She just looked away for a long moment. "I guess the least I can do is help you get your mask off comfortably."
'I would like that.' He said softly, relaxing against the tree. It would happen and she would break his mask. Hopefully when he woke up, he'd be able to shut the voices off. The others seemed fine after it had happened, so he wasn't too worried.
"Then hurry up. I don't have all day." She said. Although she did. But she wasn't going to tell him that.
'Then come down from the tree, Lyra.' He said, setting his staff aside and already preparing the silence magic. His eyes were closed as he 'felt' his way around. The stone he had made would act the same, but would be less taxing on everyone. Especially him.
Reluctantly she dropped down, landing silently on her feet and crossing her arms over her chest. It had been a very long time since she had seen his face. She wondered if he was still good looking.
He couldn't help the amusment dance though him at this. She wanted to help, but didn't know what to do. Or was unwilling too 'Place your hands on mine on the mask. When you feel them move, pull the mask away.' He told him, placing his hands on his mask, covering his eyes.
She moved closer and put her hands where he indicated. "I'm ready." She said.
He hesitated for a moment, enjoying the feeling of her hands on his. 'If I go nuts, kill me.' He said in a teasing tone, then dropped it quickly. His magic silencing the curse on the mask, mimicing what the stone would do, then he jerked his hands as if to pull it away.
She pulled, taking the mask from him and looking at it in disgust for a moment before dropping it to the ground. She gained much satisfaction from stepping on it and listening to it shatter.
He looked up at her, as the flood of memories and feels that he was missing started to fill in. He shoved them back and pushed him self to his feet, before reaching for her. He was going to get that kiss, damn it!
"You're going to faint soon." She told him, trying not to laugh. "If you kiss me and fall on top of me I'm going to be quite irritated."
'Then you stay till I wake.' Her told her, a smile flashing over his face, one that was much like his father's. It felt good to smile. Then he dropped to his knees as his body suddenly got tired. 'Wont forgive you. If you leave.' He added weakly, looking up at her.
"I'm used to being unforgiven." She replied, leaning forward to brush a light kiss over his lips.
He returned it lightly, a hand brushing over her cheek. 'Will be looking for you.' He whisped before he fainted and slumped to the ground.
She sighed and opened a rift, pulling him through with her to her own home. Then she paused and looked out over the forest for one long... last look.
"Goodbye." She said before letting the rift slam shut. She would never go back. Never again.
Really, it wasn't all that bad being in the mask. Yes, it dampened his abilities, but that could also be as much a boon as it was a bain to him. The weakness limited him in his natrual abilities, but it also weakened his ability to block others thoughts easily. It was something he was starting to realize.
