Traps are fine if they are used correctly.
I personally don't like alot of traps. i dont know all the diffrent ways to trap but.
If you want to know about different trapping methods, feel free to ask^^.

Shotgunning is far, far easier than effective trapping. Trapping can take a lot of work; buy traps and then modify them to ye individual specifications. This can include baseplating, welding, altering the jaws, getting the pan tension and chain right etc. The traps then have to be dyed and waxed and afterwards can be set. To set the trap you have to find the right location, right bait and you have to set it right. Get any of those wrong and you aren't going to make decent catches. Traplines are often through rugged country and involve a lot of walking carrying heavy gear. It's not just sit back and wait, lol.

If a person is going to leave an animal to starve in a trap then they shouldn't be trapping at all. But not all trappers leave animals to do so. I never have^^.
I take care with my trap sets to exclude the chance of catching children. It can be avoided quite easily. If I get a non target animal in a live restraining trap I release it. Never had a non target in a lethal trap.
Traps don't know the difference between species but trappers do. Set location, different baits and pan tension can generally eliminate non target catches.

Gun hunting is fine but guns can be misused; just as traps of any other tools can be misused.
Also, guns are great if you want the animal dead immediately but what if you want to take the animal alive? What if the animal is just a pest that can be released elsewhere? A shotgun or rifle will be of no use...or what if it is a residential area? A softcatch foothold trap is a much better option.
Hearing different opinions can only be a good thing, ya?
Don't take this comment as an attack, I just enjoy debating and trapping. Debating about trapping is a two-in-one deal.
