Hello, everyone! My name is Jean, and I'm 22 years old. Currently I'm unemployed, but I'm hoping to get a job and to go back to school later this year.

My hobbies include reading, journaling, watching independent movies and anime, walking, and trying out unfamiliar ethnic dishes. (Thai cuisine is soooo good. I consider myself to be a picky eater, so it must be good. I'm thinking about trying Indian or Ethiopian cuisine since there are many restaurants in my area.)

I'm learning how to use HTML code, so that I'll be able to make my own webpages/profile. It's coming along okay. (Had an opportunity to learn how to do so a few years ago, but I brushed it off thinking that it was going to be too difficult for little ole me to learn. gonk )

My favorite author at this time is Haruki Murakami. His novels and short stories are heart .

Oh, I forgot to mention that I don't bite. domokun (Well Domo does...)

Hello there! Welcome to the guild!

The only book I've read by Haruki Murakami is The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle -I've been meaning to read more, because I loved it! Thanks for reminding me! Any recommendations?

Hi, everyone!

Off the bat, I can recommend reading Kafka on the Shore and any of his short story collections. The Elephant Vanishes was the first short story collection that I've read. If you want to read a romance/ coming to age story, Norwegian Wood is a good thing to check out. (That novel is the first thing I've read by him. It was course reading in a literature course, and I loved it.) I just finished reading his latest short story to hit the US, Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman, and liked it. Another novel is supposed to come out in the US in 2010, so I'm waiting patiently for it while re-reading his novels and short stories. crying

Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World is a good choice period. It's surreal and delicious. The begining is great, middle is great, and the ending is...great. As you could see, I'm somewhat of a Murakami connoiseur. (sp?) rofl

A kindred spirit! I wasn't as eager to try new foods until my ex introduced me to pho, bulgogi, and a million Thai dishes. Now I'll try anything. biggrin
