mrgreen Congratulations! Welcome to the wonderful world of adulthood! You can tell from our talk how delightful it is, I'm sure. I suppose health care has a future in it, but I've heard getting into physical therapy will put you in better demand & get you better pay. A friend of my parents has a daughter who's a physical therapist. She doesn't seem to have any trouble getting a good job wherever she goes.

Actually, I'm not--except on-line. smile I'm not as bad shy as I was when I was at kid, though.

I was saying all that at Sacaen--doesn't she work in Health Care?
I don't wanna get into any form of it myself, esp. hospitals, doctors' offices & dental offices. gonk But she's young, good time to choose a busy and well-paying specialization field.

Getting back to textiles, have you looked at the textile manufacturing job listings on the ESC site lately?
Used to be you always saw all these weird sounding job titles all over that section, which I mostly recognise or have seen at work at Culp--Warper, Creeler, Slasher, Winder, Draw Crimp, Taslan, Fixer, Loom Tender, Weaver, Knitter, Smash Hand, Yarn Hauler.

I did not see ONE listing with ANY of those names ANYWHERE across the entire state this week. cry Even the sock factory listings have disappeared.

What, the one on Wendover north of the Interstate?

I'm in my Career Transitions class now--M-Th, 1-5....F, 8-12. gonk
We tour around the campus, meet people in various areas who tell us about what we could study & what careers we could go for--& often, what is IN DEMAND.
For instance, today I learned there is a big demand for medical transcriptionists. You could even do this job at home on your own computer. And a good typist can make up to $35/hr doing this! Also Coding--this is something to do with getting insurance coding right for claims doctors file. Again, growing demand for this as insurance companies are cracking down on doctors & saying they MUST submit claims correctly & with the right codes or they won't get paid. This is another job beginning to outsource & be done at home more. (I HATE typing. gonk )
Also learned today that there is high demand for WELDERS. There aren't enough of them around to do the work & they can stay busy til they burn themselves right out, commanding $60/hr wages! And Underwater welders can make $300/hr!! eek
Wanna go be a welder, Tommy? mrgreen
