I often read books that are recommended to me. I also read any romance and manga that I can get my hands on.

Usually I go by what covers catch my eye, then I read the back and if they sound interesting then I'll get it. I go by reccomendation a lot too, if one of my friends tells me I need to read something, I usually do.

I have to check out these online book lists though. I've never really looked at them but I'm running out of books and I was planning on going to my favorite used book store this weekend so I think I'll check a few of them out.

I usually just read the back, me and my friends don't have the same taste in books, though both of us are avid readers. Sucks huh?

If the title grabs my attention then I'll read the back. If that sounds good I'll read the book and see if I like it.

Impulse, simple as that.

When I need a new book I go out hunting for one, mind you this is quite often. Usualy this impulse leads to hours at the local book store looking for just the right book. Meaning several tryal and errors of picking up every book that looks interesting to me, weather the title catch my eye or be it the cover. Next I will usualy read the back cover, even if it is nothing more than raveing newspaper quotes. If that is all the back has to offer I go to the inside flap, assuming it is hardcover. Most books are put back after this reading but if my interest continues to peek the first page is read. Should that prove to hold my attention the book is baught. 3nodding

If the cover and title gets me, I'll flip open to a random page and see if it interests me pirate

its the same with me too, if the cover and title gets me i just start to read.
also if the plot of the story is good, i'll read it. but mostly i read fantsy type books, and if i have nothing else to read in fantsy, i start to read other types of books. so if i like it, i'll read it

The weight and inside of the jacket if its a hard cover, and if it has a poem in the front or not.

The cover dosn't matter much to me.

I read books due to the information on the inside cover/back, reccomendations, as well as the artwork on the front. The artwork and title play a major part in the way I look at a book on the shelf 3nodding

When I go down the aisles of libraries and bookstores I really look at the book spines. You can almost always tell genre by the spine, that's why they're there. Cursive-like fonts tend to be girly "boyfriends and shoe shopping". You can tell fantasy, sci-fi, romance, classic, young adult, etc.

Books that came out in the 70's and 80's though have some of the ugliest art.

First of all, isn't it odd to have the option of, "I don't read" on a poll in the IRTIA- a reading guild?

Well, besides that, I personally think it's a combination. I often find books that are recommended to me by friends or teachers. However, if I'm just browsing in the book store, an interesting cover always catches my eye. After the cover, I read the title to see if it sounds interesting or like a book I won't enjoy. And if it has me hooked, I read the back. I also flip through the book to view the size of the font, margins, font itself, and type of paper, although those are not big factors at all, that's just me being curious about the book.

I go through so much mainly because my mom doesn't like buying me many books because there are plenty in my house already, and I don't have a lot of money to spend on books myself. And books are getting expensive. eek

I read the blurb...read the first few pages and then say Yep I want this! Or the other reason I might want a book is because it's a series book...
