1. Nanaki is an anagram of Anakin. We know this because of the many other Star Wars references within the Final Fantasy series(Biggs and Wedge).

2. Aerith's Japanese name is not Aerith but Erisu.

3. Barret is not fighting for his dead wife. He was fighting so that he would be forgiven by Marlene's Father for not protecting his wife and child.

You'd think people would perform their research a little better before posting for the whole world to see.

You forgot to post Alexander under summons. Not sure of his namesake, but I know he's a holy being, and he appears as a great castle that rises from the Earth. I can see how nobody knew, though. His materia is very hard to find; it's hidden in a cave at the great glacier; a monster called Snow has it. You have to touch the hot spring then find Snow to obtain it. Again, not sure if this has anything to do with the name Alexander's origin, but Alexander the Great comes to mind. Don't remember who that was though. Also, in FFIX, Alexander was hidden as a castle called Alexandria and had wings.(glowing angel's wings.)

1. Good point, I heard that one too. And something about RedXIII being a reference to the Red Squad. But if there is also a Star Wars spin on him, one could accept the stack up of similarity with Nanak could point a possible doubled background. Square Enix/the FF series is also known for multiple plays on names and references. I doubt that Nanaki and Nanak's extreme similarities were just a coincidence though.

2. Actually it's エアリス (Earisu) And this is what they probably meant in terms of it being the Japanese name (It's wiki, take it or leave it, lol):

"However, official Japanese material uses the spelling "Aerith",[8][9][10] and developers have stated that 'Aerith' is an anagram of an English phrase 'I, Earth'.[11]"

Perhaps it's not as prominent to the players because of Marlene's presence and the battle with Dyne, but it is still a similarity, but he does bring her up with a good load of emotion behind it. Proof:

It was not a significant detail which pertained to me then, so I didn't remember if there was something mentioned on a spoiler warning or not. Once I got to that point, I was just unsure of whether I should continue on it with out stating it in my post for courtesy of other member. Why I didn't just recheck? -shrugs- Ionno. lol. My bad? lol.

Moving on: Wiki states its sources at the bottom if you don't want to beilieve wiki itself, then do the research on that. If you're too lazy, then why argue for the truth if the is not that important? Note, I also said, take it or leave it, so no reason to on being so petty about things, lol.

Still just to point out for the want of understanding and truth. If you do look it up, "Aeris Vs. Aerith", I'm sure you will find that in terms of correct translation, "Aerith", is her Japanese name. If you want light on this, I will point katakana is used in terms of non-japanese words, so even if it was Earisu, it's really thier way of pronunciation of a word that isn't really Earisu, lol. Just as "Goliath" would probably be pronounced as "Goraiassu" (or something like that). It's just how they sound like when they are actually trying to pronounce the word Aerith, lol. It's actually not a new fact that Square intended it to be "Aerith", but Sony's translation made it out more literally as "Aeris" when introducing it to the U.S.. Some speculate this as a mistake, some say it just flowed better. I'm sure that, that truth is also out there, but I don't feel I'd need to branch off into something irrelevant like that. Wiki was the first thing to pop up for me, and since it was such an old and worn fact, I didn't even care about the source then, in assumption that many others whose sources or proof/logic were more solid would say the same thing. lol.

No I have no sources for this, but I'm sure not even 5 minutes into your own research, you will find the truth. If you intend to argue further on this fact, then for the sake of the contents of this thread and for your peace of mind, I don't mind pulling up more info to quadruple check my memory on that. i think (and this is all opinion) that sephiroth's name is derived as more of a pun on the seraph angels, though the counting system and the clones in neibelheim do add up. and honestly, it doesn't really matter which theory is right, heck they may all be right, or we could get new info that proves us all wrong. Though it is fun to ponder the meanings of these things.
