Probably. But I counter-reported. My original PM was not as nice as I could have been. I had just eaten up about 10 rebellion face masks, spending around 40K. I raised the price from about 3500 to 4500. And I left myself as the lowest priced in the vend.
Well, doesn't someone come along and put four in several thousand lower than mine! I was furious. I knew they probably didn't realize it, and acknowledged that, but I told them flat out that the very reason they COULD price that high and still be the lowest was because I had paved the way. We were snippy at one another, they said they reported me, so I counter-reported.
I'm not going to worry about it. If anything happens, it will be a warning. People report the most lame things as if Gaia has time to kiss every little boo-boo.

Oh, while I'm at it, here's something else I hate.
They want to sell something and they look up the lowest price so they can beat it. Do they look at the time remaining, though? Nooooooooooooooo! I can't tell you how many times I've had the lowest price with less than 5 minutes remaining and someone comes along to outprice me. I think that's rude. I don't do it (except to the sellers who cause me MP grief wink ). In FIVE minutes or less, mine will sell and you can list yours at a higher price!

Ahh.. Marketplace rivalries. <3 It's funny how often you come across the same name when you're selling, almost like they're following you around... stressed I'd be lying if I said I'd never done it. xD

What you said about someone writing you about why you were trying to make the price go up? stressed Everyone is running around screaming "PLEASE DONATE TO ME SO I CAN HAVE MY DREAM AVATAR!" and then they do their best to cause deflation. Now I know why working on Wall Street is so stressful. wink

P.S. I'd love it if we had a thread about pricing strategically. I'd be happy to lead the seminar! wink
Here's a little quiz. You've got 4 2k6 scarves you'd like to sell. You're going to put them all in the vend at the same time and no one can talk you out of it. You look at the first page of lowest priced scarves and you see this:
1399 1498 1499 1500 1500 1500 1500 1500 1500 1599 1600 1700
How do you price yours?
What I would do: First, I'm gonna eat that 1399 out of existence, and then price one at 1497 (1g lower than the next lowest.) I generally don't like to add another of the same price when there's a lot at one price (in this case, 1500), I MIGHT toss one in the mix - but I'm definitely going to make it a bid/buy so it can get a little more attention. The third one I'll price at 1598 and the fourth goes in at 1699.
Basically, I try to make sure I'm somewhere in every step in the price ranges. And I don't go for dominating the front page as much as staggering the prices well.
So let's say it's like this:
1400 1450 1500 1500 1500 1500 1500 1500 1500 1500 1500
Page 2
1500 1600 1700 2000 2000 2000 2000 2000 2000 2000
One goes in at 1399. One goes in at 1499, one goes in as bid/buy 1500 and the last will go on page 2 at 1599 - or in this case, maybe even 1699 or 1999.

I can just imagine the average life-span of a person working on Wall St is at least 10-20 years less than any other person. xD That's so horrible...
Uuu, fun game.
I personally like to spread my prices out a bit, going by that list, I'd be like so:
1399 1498 1499 1500 1500 1500 1500 1500 1500 1500 1555 1599 1600 1666 1700 1777
If I had the extra gold to spare, I'd probably buy a few of the 1.5K's, just to shore up the numbers, the more of one price there is, the more the silly ignorant people will go ahead and sell their items for that price too. That way, the 1.5K's I buy, their previous owners will buy the cheaper ones, leaving only a couple others, and then mine! biggrin

You could be. But it also seems to change, and I'm not sure what determines that, except for possibly last bid. Your 1555 should be 1598. No reason why it shouldn't be. 1g lower is all you need to go, same with your 1666 and your 1777. Always assume someone is going to come along and go lower than you. The lower you go, the lower they will...later, rinse, repeat. smile

Currently making me sad: Ok, first of all, the first price at which there are TONS is 5K. So you would expect people to go lower than 5K for a quicker sale. Poor pricing compelled a little congestion at 4k. wumbowumbo came along and put at least 3 in at 3999. He/she was probably the lowest price at the time, but this has scared people into going lower. Lepercan420, a frequent seller of these things whose name I've seen 1,000 times, has done the same thing, prompting Oh! Ms. O to go even lower. By the time I posted this screen shot, someone went to 3500. Now, if people put one in a time (or at least staggered their prices) and followed the guideline of going 1g lower, the lowest price would be 4970! A 1.5K difference! So again, there's no problem with pricing the lowest for a fast sale. But more than one at a time can be self-defeating and there's absolutely no reason to go more than 1g lower - ever.

Oh man, I'm at my wit's end. Genius after genius, four at a time, driving down the prices more. Rebellion masks were so close to 5K yesterday. Now? I'm seeing 'em hit 3K.
Oh why oh why!
Now of course, someone else is going to come along and put four more in at an even lower price and ya know what? I'm just about ready to drive it down further, just to prove a point. I might lose some gold, but I'm certainly not making any this way.
I did it with scarves one day. I've got plenty of those. SOOOO...how low should we go? wink

I completely understand. You see it also a lot with items that are very wanted now, like for starters with the mimzy's... I had a blast buying them and selling them, not to high but a bit higher to get them up.... had a full 24 hour getting them up. And people started to sell them a lot cheaper... And now the prices plummeted pretty much down the drain.

When I went to bed last night, I had gotten 2k6 scarves on the very edge of 2000. There were a few in the 1900s and the rest of the first page were 2000g.
This morning? 1500. *sigh* At least it's not 1000 or less...yet.

BTW... Jane I made that super secret auto-buyer... razz It just doesn't have an auto-refresh. You can set a price to redirect, and if you have a special field in the url it will add that to the end of the link

Nods, "I totally agree with you, it's totally wrong. I mean I went to sell my Goti clips on the market cause I needed the gold to get my ninja band, well my friend was going to buy them at, at the time they were 145K, then she calls up two friends who put them at 121K and 112k... I got pissed cause she wanted my Clips at 108k afterwards. I checked the two people selling theirs, and saw her in there friendslist, so I bought both of them and sold all 3 for 140k each. I got nasty PM's from the two people and I told them it was their own damn fault for listening to her. But I get what your saying, right now I am trying to sell off my 2k6 sets, the easter and such, and I can't whenever I set up like 2 of the closed box's or whatever, someone else jumps all over and puts 3 of the same item for like 1k less than me.. I miss my angelic headband and I am going to get it back."
