Well...our school is very obsessed with colleges and our future...and i have to pick some colleges that interest me. smile I was wondering if you guys knew of any good art schools? I'm currently interested in traditional illustration.^^ so far i've only found one that caught my interest and it was cooper union (haha - free tuition, perfect portfolio - too much for me to handle gonk )
Any suggestions and why they are good art schools i'd really appreciate it! (sorry if this doesn't pertain to the guild, you can bin it) sweatdrop And if you've already or are currently attending one i'd love to hear of your experience(s)! biggrin

I can't help with schools because I'm not from the US (that's assuming you are...) but I know a couple of illustrators. What's your portfolio look like so far?

Doug of Akkad I can't help with schools because I'm not from the US (that's assuming you are...) Same here. sorry. but good luck. choosing a school can be hard work, so make sure you take a good look around the place and speak to the tutors..make sure you absolutely want to go there.

well, it's harder to get into cooper union than harvard or yale. but cooper union is more of a fine art school than illustration. some people say there isn't much of a difference, because many fine artists tend to do more illustrative work, but if you want full out illustration courses, then more commercial art schools are probably better. i heard that pratt in new york is supposed to be very good for graphic design and illustration, but i didn't find anything too impressive about the school personally. there are also a few very good art schools for illustration along the west coast in cali, like art center near san fransisco (i think).
i'm going to rochester institute of technology in september for their illustration program. i heard a lot of good things about it, and the school is really nice, aside from the below 0 windchill, but that's okay. i can live with it. lol.
but yeah, all in all, just go on different school's websites and research, until you find a few that you like. 3nodding

hehe, my school was all like "so...where are you going to school, what are you going to study...you eighth graders better know this right now or you're going to FAIL AT LIFE, FAIL!!!" and it's pretty annoying. i wouldn't worry about it until at least your junior year (except, of course, putting together a portfolio, which i would advise to take as much time as you feel like taking).
hm, well i don't know of a lot of art schools in the country, but art institute of atlanta is supposed to be pretty good. Savannah College of Art and Design is supposed to be better than AI, but really...i never planned on going to an art school, so i never looked much into it. one cool place is portfolio center (www.portfoliocenter.com). i got a big book from them; it's a pretty neat concept. instead of just spending time learning about art, you're actively creating a portfolio for your job/career the entire time you're there. but i dunno.

Alright then... the uni here in Brighton, UK has a good illustration degree course, or at least I'm always impressed by the end of year shows (more so than their fine arts dept., so I'm reasonably glad I don't study there myself...). My housemate is in her final year there doing illustration. I think her stuff is kickass so I;m going to show her off a bit...

Since it's illustration I'd guess there's narrative of some sort, but I have no idea what...
