I read that one theory behind sun signs is that it's the time of conception, rather than the time of birth, that has an influence on the individual. This theory is interesting in that it accounts for people born prematurely that act more like the sign after the one in which they were born. I.e, people with libran traits have these traits because they were conceived nine months before the time we know as being Libra, not because they were born in that time.
This got me thinking about pets, since different animals have different gestation periods. If the time of conception is what matters, then a dog isn't really the sign it's born as, it's the sign that comes nine months after it was conceived - so that's about five or six months after it was born (I think dog gestation is around 3-4 months, correct me if I'm wrong. I don't know what it is for cats/other animals.)
I applied this theory to my own dog, who is a libran, yet if you count back three and forward nine, she becomes a taurus. And, while it's easier to see signs in people than in dogs, she is far more suited to taurus than she is Libra.
So, what do people think about this? What do you think about the theory of conception rather than birth being what influences? And, how does this apply to your own pets - are they more like their birth sign, or what they would be if you worked it out according to this?

It's a very interesting theory, but you'd have to know if they were premature and by how much. I don't know how many people can do that with their pets, because of above complications. (I'm petless)

I believe both cats and dogs are two months.

I think we're born when we're supposed to be and so we are born under the sign we are supposed to be. 3nodding My kitty is an Aries, I think, and that's him to a tee. heart

I've heard that too, though by all accounts I "should" be a Gemini/Leo/Pisces (assuming I would still be born at the same time of day, just about 15 days earleir XP) and quite honestly, that just doesn't jive for me. I'm certainly quite twin-like in some of my behaviour, but the motivating force behind me is quite distinctly Cancerian. With that, I will edit my post in the guess my sign thread XP.
And certainly by all counts, your dog could have a Taurus moon or even rising. wink Not to mention that both signs have a Venusian quality to them.

I'm inclined to agree, MST3Kakalina, after all. I want to get my dog a chart but we don't know her birth time, so we'll only be able to get it as detailed as planets in signs.
I have a couple of friends who would be different signs if they'd been born on time, as well. One is very much like the sign she ended up being born in, and while the other is more firey than a typical cancer, she has a fire sign rising.
