I have no idea where this goes, so I'll post under here.

Anyways, I've been having troubles sleeping for a very long time and not that long ago, I went to see the doctor who ran a few tests and found nothing wrong. So, I started to dose myself on sleeping pills every night, I took one each night, till taking only one stopped working, so I started to take two.

That only worked once. So, I stopped sleeping in my room and started sleeping in the guest bedroom, which I can actually sleep in there. And I just changed mattresses to a new one cause my parents thought it was my old mattress, so when I tried sleeping in my room again (with the new mattress) I just couldn't fall asleep.

So, I went back into the guest bedroom and slept in there.

And I can't seem to find the reasons why I can't sleep in my own room. I was able to before, also, whenever I'm in my room, I sense some sort of prescence that I haven't felt before, unless I'm being paranoid, but whenever I'm in there, it feels like theres someone else there too or at least someone always watching me.

Sorry of this is confusing sweatdrop and in the wrong place.

Insomnia sucks, doesn't it?

This is something I learned the hard way: worrying about not being able to sleep will only makes it worse.

If you're uncomfortable in your room, ask your parents to swap your room for the guest one permanently. Getting a thick underlay for your bed can also help, because you'll sink into it a bit and will fidget less.

Try not to take sleeping tablets as regularly as you have been - if you need something to make you drowsy(or at least more relaxed), try some valerian. (I have nothing against sleeping tablets, but the quality of sleep you get from them is pretty crappy.)

Your state of mind has a lot to do with how well you'll sleep. If you're stressed or under pressure, your brain won't want to switch itself off. You can help convince it to shut down by avoiding television and computer screens for an hour or so before you want to sleep.

Something that also might help you is reserving your room for nothing but sleeping (or attempting to sleep). Try doing your homework and/or socialising in your old bedroom or other parts of the house, but sleep in the guest room until your body sorts itself out.

Other than that, I'm pretty much out of ideas for you. Good luck! xp

I think it's purely psychological. People tend to sleep better in other places, because in their own rooms, they've made permanent bad habits. Looking at the clock too often, worrying, lying in bed and tossing and turning. Their mind sees their bed, and thinks of all its other uses- doing homework, talking on the phone, worrying, anything- and it doesn't become restful. It's like trying to sleep on the couch, except maybe worst. But when you're in the guestroom, you're able to see it as strictly for going to sleep and you can relax.

So that's what it is I think. You've at least proved for me that the sleep experts weren't just kidding around in that Readers' Digest article. =)

i have insomnia too, but for different reasons entirely.....
sometimes i have to go for days without sleep, so i know exactly how you feel...... mrgreen

I agree with x_caliope_x insomnia does suck. crying

The best thing for you to do in your case is to just switch bedrooms entirely. Also, try to wean yourself from sleeping pills becasue they do not give you a better night of sleep and they always carry a risk of dependency. wink

I had a similar problem a few months back. I rearranged my room, pulled down all the pictures/posters/decoration off my walls, put everything away, I completely cleaned everything out and made sure everything I kept was organized and it made my room look and feel practically empty. That way there was less going on, less distractions, and believe it or not, it helped. I could sleep again.

i dont know if it will help, but until a couple months ago, i also suffered from insomnia. unfortunately, when the docs decided to test me, it was the one time that week that i sleep perfectly. anyways, what i do is i pray every night. i dont want anyone to give me crap about that, but it makes me feel safe. and happy, and it calms me. listening to music also helps me sleep, but only if the music is playing when i fall asleep, otherwise the songs are stuck in my head and keep me up. also, meditating helps me sleep
