Well. Life had certainly become interesting for Anoki. The earth-colored wolf was no longer lone, but his new pack seemed rife with intrigues. Intrigues were not usually conducive to survival, so this made him a little anxious, but he believed that it would all blow over and settle down eventually. Someone would be alpha, the others would not, and life would go on.
Head down, he trotted along the game trail he was following, past the edges of the pack lands.

Who's idea was it to make spring so...mucky? Starla glowered at the mud that coated her paws and shuddered. Mud wasn't as bad as water, per say, but it certainly was made of the stuff, which made her skin crawl. She slipped and stumbled a few feet with a grunt, her ears pinning back. ******** mud. It slowed her down. And she needed, just as she needed everyday, to find Ieshia. To fullfill her purpose for living.

A grunt sent Anoki's ears swiveling forward, and he trotted toward the sound cautiously. Rather than an injured and possibly dangerous deer or elk, however, it was another wolf. A striking gold female, with black striping lacing through much of her coat. The mud spattering it belied the source of the noise which had alerted Anoki. "Are you all right?"

Starla's head snapped round sharply, her eyes narrowing. What the hell? She supposed her senses were a little clouded by the moisture, but that certainly didn't mean she had expected to see anyone. Quite the opposite. She hated company. The only person she had any desire to see was her sister-who she wished to dispose of. So she glowered at the male, her fur bristling on her scrawny, underfed frame. "As right as rain," she snapped, poison in her voice. And the phrase meant nothing to him, but to her it was a curse. For rain, along with water, was the plague of her existance.

"Well, if you say so," Anoki replied, trotting up beside the lean female. "I don't see what's so right about rain though. It feeds the plants that feed the prey, but other than that...washes away tracks, scents, makes it difficult to hunt. But some things will happen whether we like them or not, and rain is one of those things." He shrugged. "But anyways, my name is Anoki." He paused, curious whether she would offer her own or not. She certainly seemed...interesting.

Starla spat at the ground in front of his face and then glowered, showing white fangs. How dare he mock her, the b*****d. Wolves around here had such nerve! It digusted her. Hadn't anyone heard of minding their own business? Obviously no one had that sort of intellect anymore. "Piss off," she growled. Yeah, it didn't look like she was even close to giving him her name, let alone having a conversation.

Anoki blinked. "Why?" What had he done to piss this female off? The last one had seemed to think his gender was enough to despise him. Perhaps this one was the same. So much for trying to make conversation. And yet, he kept trying. "What did I say wrong, miss? I really wasn't trying to offend." He hung his head, giving her his best contrite expression. "Please tell me?"

Starla snorted. What a stupid male. Why were all males apparently without any scrap of intellect? And why were they always so nosey? "You existed," she spat before turning on her boney paws and moving to keep walking. This was a waste of her time and limited energy. She wasn't going to find Ieshia talking to this dope.

"That isn't a reason," Anoki persisted, his voice becoming firm. "That's an excuse, a pitiful pretention at a shield thrown up to help you run. If you keep running from everyone, you're going to run yourself to death. Without accomplishing whatever it is that you seem so busy running to do."
