Circles, circles, circles. Tiberius seemed to be stalking his own tail, wandering this way and that after it, wearing patterns into the delicate new grass beneath his paws. He grinned down at the crushed blades between nips at his own fur, the poor growing things hadn't a chance. Back and forth, back and forth, never losing a beat. Night and day was remembering his past, sinking deeper inwards as his insanity showed more and more outwards. He spun so fast he fell to the ground, prone on his side, and laughed up at darkening wispy clouds. It was a mad cackle that echoed through the treetops, pierced the last light of sunset spilling through the canopy over him. Where was he? Tiberius had forgotten. All that he could see now, and all he could hear was a distant voice, Don't worry, I won't tell. Its okay Tib, you didn't mean it.A shy smile. Oh how he loved finally tearing into her. It had killed his quiet nature as well, made the light and the sunrise shut his eyes and refuse to look. But that was useless now, here he was in the present. Here here, lying dizzy on the forest floor, atop crushed leaves and grass. The sky stopped spinning. He sat up and shook the broken leaves out of his fur, grinning a crazed, almost frothy grin. His neck bristled and lay down as a matter of course before the sadistic expression faded. Tiberius paused to look up at the coming night and the clear, crisp stars and moon. He liked it, nighttime. It was when he fit in when all else failed. After all, no one understood him. Night and day, sunset and sunrise, he was bound to be alone and hated forever. He deserved no better, after what he had done, and he reveled in it, for the most part.

In the darkening dusk, as the stars flared to life above, Equus padded along a path unknown to any but himself. He was ranging away from the pack's lands, exploring other territory. As dark fell, the stars in his coat gleamed back at those sparkling above. To a casula eye, it would appear that a section of sky had fallen to earth, moving on mortal paws beneath the uncaring sky.
Equus himself was feeling thoughtful. He had recently had a last growth spurt, pushing him from his adolesence into adulthood. He could feel the difference, flowing in his veins. His legs were no longer lanky and prone to tripping, but were lean and sleek. His frame had lengthened to match his long legs, but he'd also gained some bulk. He found the changes thought-provoking. It brought up the issue of what to do with himself. What were his goals?
These were deep thoughts, and his attention was turned inward as he padded through the darkness. His eyes kept him from tripping or running into something, but his step was slow and measured as he mentally considered the direction of his life.

Sudden noise through the dark. Tiberius sprang to his feet and bristled head to toe, wary. None were supposed to interrupt his night of thought! And he couldn't see anyone, but he could smell another wolf. Male. Close. Deep blue eyes scanned for movement, and came to rest on stars weaving through the trees. What? But of course stars walk on the earth, some were on his own coat, were they not?
Silently he crept a little closer, stirring not a crackle from the forest floor. Indeed this was a wolf, and not some trick beyond his reckoning. He may have taken a moment to muse on the coat coloration, and its similarity to his own muzzle and chest, if he had not been so stirred into unneeded anger.
A deep, menacing snarl announced Tiberius' presence. His head and tail rose, and the mane around his neck and the patch down his back looked as though it were charged with unending static, completely upright. The night and day had not wanted to be found, and certainly not by a male. A female perhaps he could have had fun with, but this, this was uncalled for and rude. Boldly the hostile wolf took a few stiff steps toward the stars moving along a grown-over path, his teeth flashing like a beacon in the night.

Alas, the meandering faint breeze was blowing the wrong way for Equus this night. His first hint of the other wolf was the rumbling snarl that rose with fury. The dark wolf froze for a moment, fully aware that it was he that was being menaced. But with his thoughts on his recent rise in the world, it dawned on him that he wasn't a teenager to be chased away. He was an adult, a male with his own rights.
His nose came up and his tail rose to meet the challenge of the other wolf. Ears laid back, though not entirely flat, and his lips curled back in an answering growl, deep and low. Youth and strength gave him the daring to stare back into the eyes of what he was soon to discover were sheer madness. As it was, he warily eyed the other closely, disregarding odd coat coloration and focusing on muscle, build, stance. This wolf meant serious business. It was only then that he stopped to realize he had perhaps bitten off more than he could chew. Or would very soon.
"Leave me in peace, and I shall do likewise," he growled between bared teeth. "I've done you no wrong." He sidled sideways slightly, seeking the best footing should he need to move swiftly, whether in retreat or aggression. He wasn't entirely sure what he would do next... this was a new situation for the untried wolf.

Deep blue claws trenched themselves into the earth softened by melting snow, and Tiber gave Equus a full view of every millimeter of his canines. He was here first, and had no reason to let an intrusive young male be at ease in his presence. His ears moved full forward as a second low, gutteral, grinding snarl escaped his throat and carried through the night. Eyes narrowed to slits as he glared daggers at his supposed intruder. "Flee, lest thou have much sorow to gete thine pieces together agayne." The crazed wolf's voice was rumbling and deep, like his snarl, and for the moment carried a strange, heavy accent. The threat in the words was heavy to those who could discern it, Tiberius would tear Equus to shreds and leave him in agony if given the chance, and at no provocation whatsoever.
Bunching himself, Tiber prepared to lunge. He was of stocky build, and his legs were long, two bounds could carry him the full distance.
Done no wrong he says! He hadn't even the courtesy to announce himself! We should run him down now. A quiet whisper followed this loud demand on his mind, but it was lost. Never loud enough to catch his attention was that second one, he had given up long ago. Tiberius launched himself at Equus, his teeth itching to snap around the muzzle of the night wolf.

Having hunted larger prey recently, it wasn't hard for the black wolf to see that he was going to be attacked, like it or not. But he sadly was lacking in knowledge of what to do about it. He glanced uneasily to one side and the other. Had he trodden onto another pack's lands without smelling the warnings? How could that be?
He took a hesitant step back, eyes rather wide as he watched the other wolf coil for the pounce. What to do, what to do? Phib... his mind latched onto that fleeting name. What would Phib do? He would defend himself! He threw up his head as his opponent launched himself forwards. With his own rising snarl he leapt forward as well. But rather than meet open mouth to open mouth, he twisted his shoulders just a bit, lowering one side and aiming indirectly.
The result was teeth meeting his neck, and his shoulder connceting solidly with the opposite shoulder of his opponent. In the moment of jarring impact, he turned his head to try and get his teeth into the other wolf's hide somehow. Even so, the older wolf's bulk jarred him aside, and he staggered, feeling warmth seeping from his neck. Maybe this hadn't been the wisest course after all. Too late now to know.
((Just dun kill my boy, lol!))

Tiberius snapped down on the throat of the other wolf, sinking not quite as deep as he would have wanted, but fair enough nonetheless. Almost simultaneously, he felt a good tuft of fur being tugged from his own shoulder. Paws grappled with the ground for footing as he was knocked a little sideways from the impact of the two bodies. It was enough for him to be sent into a blind rage, tinges of red flared on the edges of his vision. He took a moment to calm himself just a little. Fighting blindly would get him seriously hurt by a young, completely inexeperienced wolf. Tiberius bared his crimson canines, and lavishly licked the blood from his teeth with a satisfied growl. The motion and his expression well accomplished what they were intended to, the night and day male looked utterly mad and horrifying, and he reveled in it. Slyly he watched the glint of crimson grow against the black wolf's coat, trickling down to his chest.
"How does it feel?" Strangely, his voice had changed, or changed back, to a more normal accent. Which was the real speech pattern was difficult to know. "You run blindly into battle, instead of following a smart suggestion and fleeing. So tell me, how does it feel? Do you like the pain?" A sick, twisted grin curled along Tiberius' lips, an expression that spoke volumes to his state of mind. The fur on his neck and back was rising again as he gauged the younger, smaller wolf for a second charge. Yes, this would be easy. He took a pair of heavy, threatening steps forward.
((I won't. xD There's a failsafe for that in here somewhere.))

It was sinking in that this wolf was not right. Something had twisted his soul, warped his mind and made him see with crazed eyes. Equus gazed into the eyes of insanity and quailed. Phib would have been wiser. He would have seen this wolf's madness and fled. Pain washed over him, and he trembled.
But he would not tuck tail and scatter like a scolded pup. This wolf had to be shown that though he may win, he could not dominate him. He pulled his head back carefully to protect his bleeding neck, and kept his tail straight and stiff. He held this other's eyes, the windows into the demented mind of a terrible soul. He took a single step back before growling between his teeth.
"It hurts. That is pain. But it surely cannot hurt as much as you do, wounded as you are." He took another step backwards, tail still held stiff. "I count myself lucky to have felt the bite of madness and walk away having lost only blood." Another step back, his fur bristling. "I'd rather lose even my life than my mind."
He kept stepping back, never turning his back, teeth flashing in the light of the pitiless stars. Perhaps now he understood why they kept their distance, why they remained so cold. How could one care for a twisted creature such as this? And if there was one... there were more. His whole hide shuddered at the thought of the possibility of a pack made up of such wolves as this.
He would definitely be reporting this back to Phib. If such a threat loomed, his alpha must know. For now... he turned his focus back on getting out alive.

Night threw back its head and howled with scalding laughter. Oh how wrong they all were! A wound, a sickness they called it! The loss of a mind! The mind itself was a changing force like the wind or the ocean tide, fluid and free to take whatever course it desired. And here, a young little whip of boldness had an inkling to insult what assailed Tiberius like he understood, or even began to fathom what was wrong or what he desired. There was only one such wolf who'd truely known, and he was fairly certain that he'd killed her.
Teal swirled forepaws moved menacingly after Equul in the dark, a bright pink tail arched up and bristled in a show of power. He was ignoring the starred wolf's feeble attempt at being tough. This other had been shown to be weak, and had best flee before Tiber was upon him again. "You are wrong, young wolf." He stalked forward as though stalking prey, his will slowly bending towards wanting to see Equul raked out on the forest floor, begging for aid which would not come. No, he would not be a good conversationalist much longer, such a shame, such a shame. Watching the fear quiver behind the intruder's eyes had been lovely entertaining. "If the young wulf is not careful, he will find himself broken at the feet of madness and left for crows." Vision was becoming narrowed, Equul was filling up his eyes. Tiberius' pupils contracted and he bristled like a hunter who was about to take down a sure meal. A mad snarl started in the back of his throat again, yes, it was like he could see it and taste it already. Something to fulfill his lust again finally. "And so young and foolish may get his wish, all for not taking the advice of a mad wolf. Run, and pray to every star you dash under that I cannot catch thee, for one stumble or loss of pace will leave thine life strung by a hair."
One threatening lunge closed half the distance between them. Glistening teeth still tinged crimson reflected the moon above. Drowning pools of deep blue glared hatefully over Equul, and yet the same time he was given a chance, as though a string ready to snap was holding something in Tiberius back.

Equus finally pinned his ears to his head at the crazed laughter. This was just too much for the young adult. It was dawning on him that it really was his death written in the hungry eyes before him. A more doubting wolf would have compared their pelt colors and questioned himself, wondering at the similarities. He gave not a thought to it. He knew in his heart of hearts he was nothing like this wolf.
But if he was to do his duty... to report to Phib what he had seen and discovered... he had to get away. He had to stay alive. And that meant one thing. His tail wilted to even consider it, but it was the only way his quick mind could see. The discerning corner of his mind nudged him. Pride is less important than life. Do not be a fool and waste your life for the salvation of your fleeting pride.
He heard the whisper of maturity, and heeded it's advice. It was not the ravings of a mad wolf he accepted and followed, but the inner voice that had never steered him wrong. With a last lunge at the other wolf and a snap of his teeth to set the other off-balance for the moment he needed, he whirled on swift and agile paws and stretched his long legs to their best use... running like the wind. He ignored what he knew would follow him... teeth, snarls, and laughter. For he was going home now, a little wiser, a little humbled. Every movement reminded him of his folly, facing off with a wolf that had lost his mind. That pain urged him on as he fled into the soft and welcoming night.

Cackling evilly Tiber stepped aside both to dodge snapping teeth and allow Equus passage. A runner a runner, round and round and back to mother, yes, flee you fool. Run like a flying night cloud. Keep your pace or die!
Tiberius gave his prey a few bounds head start before chasing after his tail with snapping teeth and wild sounds. He was a flurry at the starred wolf's heels right up to the edge of Phib's grounds. The wolf was mad, not stupid. A spin this way, and a spin that way, and he called chillingly after the escaping wolf, "I'll be sure to see you again!" Laughing more, Tiber took a few bounds away from the packland border and let an icy howl erupt from his throat, a call that carried for some miles, echoing back off of distant forests. He would remember to where the other had fled, but for now it was back to a night of solitude. There was no use chasing onto the grounds of a large pack, oh no, not for Tiberius. One wolf in a sea of wolves had no hope, none at all. He trotted back, crushing the new grass under his paws as he went.
