I'm Filipino and we have this chunky karaoke machine. We don't use it much, but when we do, they're usually ballads. xd

Just a month or two ago, we bought a karaoke machine for $600. We're Filipino, and Filipinos are famous singers all over. Unfortunately, I used to sing when I was little, but then I got to that age where I was too embarrassed to sing when anybody in my family was within earshot (I'm still like that, actually), so my voice got rusty. I suppose I have a pretty good voice, but my range is not as wide as I wish it were. High notes... agh. My mom bought that karaoke machine in the hopes that I would use it and cultivate my singing talents and succeed her, so to speak, but I only use it when I'm alone in the house. I've never been to gatherings where everyone sings karaoke in public, but if I knew exactly how it felt to be in one, I think I'd enjoy karaoke a LOT more.

It is SO something other people do. It's quite annoying when you're trying to sleep, and your parents (I'm 14 okay? stare ) are trying to sing, and then their even worse friends start singing and you might as well go online. xp At first, I liked singing in front of everyone (I was 6 stare ) and now when I don't want to sing, my parents keep saying: "Hey Chami, do this song!"

I remember when my cousins AND my mommy made me sing Karaoke before i left, when i took the microphone, all my relatives started crowding around me O_O, i wasn't used to it. My singing was awful but all my cousins seemed to like it, even though i missed a lot words about 100000000 times.

I would assume that all asians do it. I'm Japanese, Korean, and Filipino and let me tell you.. ALL THREE ARE KARAOKE FIENDS! To answer your questions, it is not just a korean thing - its a total ASIAN thing.
