As much as I hate to say it, yes, the new episodes are nowhere near as good as the older ones. But there are moments where newer episodes stand out.
In my opinion, even though the writing isn't as good, the standard of the drawing and animation has improved dramatically. Remember season one? It was blurry, looked very flexible in the character's movements* and generally didn't look great. Compare them to the current season and you realise just how far animation and cartoons have come.
You do need to remember that the show's been running for an extremely long time- all TV shows start to go downhill after about ten years, if they even make it that far. I think we should be celebrating the fact that new episodes are still being made, as opposed to complaining that they're not as good as the older ones. Unless the team gets a new write(s) that has completely fresh ideas, then The Simpsons will just start to tread water and go nowhere.
*By this I mean that their movements where very exagarated.
