Ny hadn't seen Ra in a few days now and she was without doubt worrying about him. She knew he would be ok but she missed him by her side, since she had returned to the lands she had been through a rollercoaster of emotions and she could rarely tell one thing from the next but she knew there was change on the wind and she longed to stay and watch.

She let out a soft sigh as she rested beside the water, it seemed the pride had at least doubled in size since she left as a youngster and only good seemed to be coming of it but then she didn't know what was happening she had only heard whisperings of rumours.

No matter what was happening in the pride she had managed to sort some things out though she still had a message for the king from Kwana but she wasn't in a rush to tell the king his sister was going to come and kill him especially with all the other rumours flying around. For now she would rest beside the water and relax.

Upendo'Mpaji was out and about, escaping from things that had come to pass. He'd managed to sneak out late at night went Uzulu and Kaaga were both dreaming in lustland. No doubt the Firekin would be angry when he returned, he'd have to bring food, news, something to redeem himself. He could have run, he supposed, but he always came back. Whatever it was that made him remain here, he could not be certain, but stay he did.

At a distance, he spied a Firekin, one that he had not seen before. She was strange, he supposed, resting beside what was most scarce in these lands - water. His ears curled, and he pondered a greeting, but the red lions didn't appreciate others enchroachment.

Well that was just to damn bad for them.

He shifted his travels towards the source of nurishment, pretending he was thirsty from hard work, or whatever is was that slaves do. His ears were constantly moving for any signs that the world may be amiss. Other than the female, he could find nothing.

Carefully he lowered his head into the water, watching the Firekin the whole time, his eyes never leaving her face. Most of the time they threw a coniption fit, screaming that slaves should only keep their heads to the sand.

She was contemplating moving to find Ra but something caught her eyes. She saw movement and her golden eyes scanned the area before resting on the slaves body. She had never seen a slave before, well she had but not this close. It seemed odd to begin with but then she remembered her trips and smiled, she would be classed as a traitor after leaving the lands for so long so he was in a higher position then she was.

She watched him for a while before saying anything, she bore marks of her blood even if her pelt was white, she knew she wasn't the only white firekin of these lands.

"Hello there." She spoke in her normal voice, it was cold and emotionless but it wasn't harsh not like it would be to most. There was no reason to be harsh to one that probably had a higher ranking then ones self but not for long, giving the king the information about Kwana that she knew gave Ny hope that she would be accepted back into the pride.

"What is your name?" She moved a little after speaking, her voice staying in the same tone. She walked to the waters edge and lowered her head to drink some of the water. She wasn't thirsty but she wasn't quite sure what to do with herself, staring at the slave seemed somewhat wrong.

Mpaji jerked his head up in surprise. That voice, so unlike the voice of Kwana, or Uzulu, but it wasn't the gentleness of Kaanga, either. She was talking to him, and that in itself was strange. Sure, The Blood would make snide comments, but it would seem that this was an actual attempt at conversation.

He merely watched her at her greeting, carefully dragging his rough togue over his maw to get the last precious drops of water before they fell into the sand. He backed up a few inches as she neared. Despite the fact there was water between him and her, he'd grown to be wary of any of The Blood he met wandering around. Especially one's that seemed out of the ordinary. Like this mostly white one.

"Upendo'Mpaji," he told her softly, not asking for a name in return. It would be considered disobedience, and scorned upon. Many Firekin would lash out with claws because of his outburst.

Then again, that hadn't stopped him before. However, he didn't necessarily despise this Firekin, granted, he didn't like her in the least, but he had no reason to think anything ill of her. So it was better to hold his tongue until he truly knew.

"You must be lonely out here by yourself, Lady," he commented, his eyes now focused on the sands beyond.

She looked up from the water as he spoke his name and she nodded before licking at her own maw.

"Nyeupe'Moto." She stated her own name assuming that he would know what it was she stating. She didn't like not knowing someones name and since leaving the desert she always gave it to those she thought worthy. This was a slave who didn't seem in the slightest afraid so she believed that he was worthy.

His question surprised her a little. She was a little lonely but that was because she was missing Ra greatly and she wasn't sure where he was but otherwise she was content.

"I believe you would be more lonely then I." She chuckled a little then looked down at her reflection, "Though you are not wrong, I am feeling a little lonely at the moment. The heart is a dangerous thing." She looked away from the water and back at the slave.

"Whose slave are you?" She assumed he belonged to someone though she knew that slaves hadn't always belonged to someone and that some just belonged to the pride in general. She had been taught well as a youngster.

Mpaji pondered her statment for a moment. Was he lonely? No, he didn't think he was. This feeling had lingered about him so long, he'd thought it a part of him. Could it then be called lonely? Upen wasn't sure. He furrowed his brows in concentration of the question, but his mind quickly drifted.

"Aye, the heart can get you in a true pickle," he agreed, a lump forming in his throat.

To her question, he almost answered Motomilia, but he stopped himself quickly, swalling the hardening in his esophogas. He no longer 'served' under that Firekin anymore.

"I am Kaanga's personal slave, thought it seems Uzulu has more of a use for me than she does most of the while." He was glad not to belong to the whole of the Firekin. In that much, he was blessed. He was a gift, afterall, and no one messed with a gift.

"You know," he said with a grin. "From on top of the tallest dune, you can watch the sun fall from the sky at sunset."

Ny watched him for a while and then nodded at his statement. The heart was far too dangerous some times.

She listened to who he said he was the slave for and it took a while to put a face to the name but it was the only other white firekin, or thats who she believed it to be, in all honesty out of the royal children she had only spoken to the heir and had been rather rude to him at the time.

"Is she good to you?" Ny was curious, she had seen a slave who had been beaten to near death but at the time Ny had been a little scared to go anywhere near her.

She laughed at his last comment though, "I did know, the sunset is always so beautiful. It always can make one smile even on the worst of days."

Mpaji couldn't say he liked any member of the royal family, except perhaps, Kaanga. In fact, he found a distaste towards a multitude of people, for no real reason in particular. Or perhaps it was more of a neutral feeling? It certainly didn't feel like hatred.

"She can be a little too good," he said non-chalantly. "It's Uzulu who can be the pressure cooker." He furrowed his brow at the question, however, it wasn't like what he'd thought the Firekin to be. "Don't you ever beat your slaves?" It was an honest question, and he mostly expected a yes answer.

"I don't know if it makes me smile," he continued his speech, eyes focused once more on the sandy terrain. "But it allows me to forget for just a little while who I am." He loved those moments, of pure eternal bliss and freedom. They made him keep going. Life was really worth it then.

She listened and nodded, maybe she should meet this Kaanga.

"Beat my slaves? I have none and I doubt I ever will at this moment in time you have a higher status then I." She didn't go into it as he may be used to get information out of and she wished no pain on anyone anymore. She had wondered sometimes what she would be like with a slave but it seemed she didn't have the slightest idea.

"Forget who you are? I suppose that can be a good thing sometimes." She had never thought about anything like that before, she had complete bliss when she was with Ra.

Upendo'Mpaji was intrigued by this. Was it because of her endless white that seemed to consume her body? Did color truly have the harsh an effect upon the Firekin? He didn't think so, white wasn't a color particularily frowned upon.

He decided not to pester her about it, he wasn't sure he wanted to know the answer. Some things were best meant to be secrets. He merely nodded and slowly inched backwards. Staying was not an option, he needed to get back home, before they noticed his absence. There was no telling what Uzulu would do in his wrath.

"For some," he answered lightly, and then tiptoed off across the sand, not bothering to even train his ears to see if she might give him a response.
