What do you guys think?
and for those of you who don't know what white lies are it's like lieing for a good cause for something like that. For example say a girl was a home alone and her mom called. The mom asked whether her brother was home or not. The girl said that he was because she knew that if she told the truth then the mom would worry and not contentrate on her job.
I personally think that it depends on the situation.

I agree-if it helps someone it's good. Like in WW2; Many civilians lied about keeping Jews in their houses/on their property and therefore savved many lives.

Ya, it depends on the situation. Like the WW2 situation, many peopled saved a lot of Jewish lives. But its also considered a lie, some people don't see it as a 'white lie' to them a lie is a lie. But meh, for me. Its definately the situation and if its for a good cause that's even better.

Very true, however, how do we scale lies from white and those of personal endeavors?

If the white lie is said in the right time in the right place to help someone then it's fine

In your example, I would say you did not give enough information. If the brother is two years old, and he is not home when his parent thinks he should be, it is time to worry.
In the evaluation of all choices, I have decided one of three things can be said. Either it is right, wrong, or not enough information is known. For the case of white lies, I would have to say that not enough information is known to conclude anything about them as a general subject.

Everyone I know has lied at some point in their life. If the lie is used for a purpose that is inherently good, then it is beneficial to the world to lie.
If not, it sucks, so please just be honest. xp
