Let's say you want your character, Sam, to walk into a room and sit down in a chair.
*comes in and sits down*
That is so lame!
Instead, try writing something like:
Sam entered the room slowly, looking around to see if anyone was there. "Hello?" she called out to anyone who might be inside. Seeing no one, she came in and slid slowly into an overstuffed armchair. Ahhh, she thought. Some alone time at last.
See how I was much more descriptive? I wrote it out like you would a book. "I put my characters spoken words in quotation marks like this," and put their thoughts in italics.
If you give a short reply, you can apologise out of character. OOC for short, this is how you communicate to other guild members while roleplaying something that your character isn't doing. You can put it
OOC for out of character, and when you want to have your character do something, type BIC for Back In Character
((In double parentheses like this))
[[or in double brackets like this]]
For example:
"Sure thing," Sam replied. "I'd be happy to."
((Sorry for the short post, I'm having serious writer's block.))
"Sure thing," Sam replied. "I'd be happy to."
[[Sorry for the short post, I'm having serious writer's block.]]
"Sure thing," Sam replied. "I'd be happy to."
OOC- Sorry for the short post, I'm having serious writer's block.
And one more thing. Quoting another person's post while roleplaying is, in my opinion, extremely obnoxious and unecessary. I mean, everything is happening in succession, so there's no need for it. Plus you end up with:
Quote:
Quote:
Quote:
Quote:
Quote:
"Hey, how's life going?" Jim asked, settling down on a couch.
((Sound like someone you know, Freak? Just kidding, I'm not rubbing it in your face, you did great. It's not like you missed "who was the first president of the US" or anything. I bet you did better than me on the written part.))
And this whole big mess just takes up unecessary space. If you need to refresh your memory on what someone else said, I would encourage using the little box below where you write your posts that lists several of the previous posts, or quote the previous post but then delete all the quotes before you delete it instead.
So remember, in the Places subforum where all roleplaying occurs, feel free to use OOC, but don't excessively quote anybody else!
However, the opposite is true for the Main Forum. In the Main Forum, you can quote but DON'T use OOC because nobody's in character and you can't be out of character if you're not in character in the first place. However, you can quote if you're responding to a particular thing somebody said.
But please remember: these are not rules, only guidelines. Not following these suggestions will not result in any consecquenses.
Thanks, and have fun!
