I just checked Zannen, Canada and apparently Ocean Studios is dubbing this series. Quote: Death Note to be dubbed by Ocean Studios Submitted on February 18th, 2007. Just in case you were contemplating the possibility of Death Note fostering unique and totally surprising casting such as L being portrayed by Johnny Young Bosch or Misa being played by Stephanie Sheh, some news has come about that may surprise you. According to livingfruitvirus from Toon Zone, it was mentioned at MegaCon that the Death Note English dub is going to be handled by Ocean Studios. It was not specified whether it would be recorded in Calgary or Vancouver, but either way it's great to hear that a major title is getting dubbed outside of LA for once. Not to mention more Canadian Content dubs!

aww... well i wont make any huge assumptions but I was hoping LA would dub Death Note since I watched the Hikaru no Go dub and I really didn't care for the voice casting... at all. but I'll wait for the dubbing to be complete and for the confirmation that the Canadians will dub Death Note.

Aww, but I wanted Johnny Yong Bosch and Stephanie Sheh to be in the cast! crying *hangs self*
...
*unhangs self* The Ocean Group's in dire need of a big-name franchise that isn't Gundam or Inuyasha. Hopefully, dubbing Death Note will propel the company to greater glory.

I was just thinking about this today, and as much as I love Johnny, Derek Stephen Prince, Stephanie Sheh, Michelle Ruff, and all the L.A. based peoples, it would be a little over-kill if Bleach, Naruto, AND DeathNote all had the same VAs in it. So I understand the reasoning for letting Canada dub this, I'm hoping for the best mrgreen

I have a question. Have they released the official English cast list yet for the series?

Nope, not yet anyways. My guess is that they will be announced at Comic Con like Bleach was last year.

The mention of Inuyasha made me think this, but I wonder if Richard Cox would be in it. O: I have never read or watched Death Note, so I have no idea of what VA would go best with what character, but I think I would laugh if Cox was in it...because he'll never not be Inuyasha. xDD

Ocean Studios worries me, since I despise the Hikaru no Go dub, and I rarely despise a dub.
But at the same time... maybe Scott McNeil will be in it! I don't know what he'd play, but maybe he'll get a part all the same! =D

according to this the casting is not done yet... well I'd say I'm pretty happy that they're taking their time to really see who is the best to play which character rather than just throw anyone in to play the role so they can announce it. the longer it takes the better the outcome... i hope

But, would Richard Cox fit the role of L?

*ahem*
Death Note is love.
However, I'll admit it right now.....
I really want to ask Alessandro Juliani to say dirty things to Light >> I think my friend and I decided "take me, Light" was the best thing he could ever say. even dead pan.
that was somewhat off topic, I apologize. I'm just a silly flying bunny after all. You can't expect much.
However, I feel this is probably one of the best dubbed animes I've ever seen. I mean... L-perfect. Light-perfect. Mello(as an adult)-perfect.... him with that voice as a child.. not so much. Near-perfect.. Matsuda!? PERFECT X_X the guy has ONLY voiced Matsu! x-x he's amazing >basically.. everyone but Misa is perfect... >> and even she's good because she pisses me off.. and that's Misa's frikkin purpose.
So.. yeah. Amazing anime. I'm running on about 4 hours sleep for 5 days so I'll be more serious later on. I have to go write a paper due in an hour.... and.. >> well. I need to take a flying bunny nap...

¤:[Do you spend your days C O U N T I N G the hours[/bi] you're awake?]
Admittedly, when I heard the trailer for Death Note and heard Light's voice, I was less than enthusiastic. But I was totally impressed by Light's actor and all I can say is that it's a huge change from Sai from Hikaru no Go. =P He was perfect. Perfectly manipulative in the voice, he even had the same laugh as in the Japanese version. I was happy with almost everyone's voices.
I wasn't crazy about L's voice. He tended to gasp or something. You could hear him take a breath and that really bothered me. I don't remember hearing that in the Japanese version, but I may have been too busy being enthralled with the series for the first time and reading subtitles to notice.
Mello's voice wasn't anything I imagine in either the English or Japanese version. However, they did do very well to find the English equivalent.
Aaaand... I know it's the fangirl talking, and I know that Vic Mignogna is doing it [and I loooove Vic], but a part of me was hoping that Light's actor could do Tamaki in Host Club. Light's seiyuu did Tamaki in Japanese. He would have been perfect. It just wasn't meant to be. =/ ¤: [And when night C O V E R S the sky, You find yourself doing the same?]:¤
