This is a reference for anyone who wants to start investing into the Gaia marketplace. We can break down your return into two main categories; short-term, and long-term.

To start out, I think it is important to know what an investment is, and how it works. An investment is a fund of some sort, you invest a currency speculating a higher return. Each caries a risk depending on the level of investment.

NOTE: Regardless of your investment, you ALWAYS have a risk. The risk might be really high, really low, or somewhere in between.

Working GaiaOnline's Marketplace

This is a short guide on how to sell your items fast in the market, ultimately it depends on your buyer, price, exposure, and a little luck. After you've felt out the market and feel that it is time to sell, you want to be able to attract as many buyers as fast as possible to sell off quickly.

Listing Time

The default search format in the marketplace is by time added, and this is where you are going to have the most exposure initially, then I know people hunt in the time left, so consider doing 5 minute buy it now auctions. I find this method to have the best results when pushing short-term investments.
ex: I bought 10000 tickets at 24000 and sold them at ranges from 2.5 - 3.0 each making about 2500 in profit, in about 45 minutes.

If you want to secure a profit, you will have a better chance running a longer auction on a pricier item that is worth the wait. Running it while you sleep is an easy way to fight watching it.
ex: I bought a Dark Star for 10500 and sold it for 12000 in a 5 hour span. I made 1150 while I slept.

Pricing Items

The only rule here is to not be a pig, be reasonable and in return your buyers will be as well.

A trick to sell your item faster and beat the competition, is to lower your price by 1 gold. By doing this you will increase your chances to sell a great deal.

I generally use a short listing time if I'm afraid the price is too unstable or I'm trying to panic someone into clicking buy now because I'm asking for too much. That actually works sometimes. I also use it to get rid of junk items cheap - flowers, trash, bugs. I price them low and get them out of my inventory fast.

Other than that, it seems like if something is going to get stuck in my vend, it's a 5-minute item.

I'm generally all about buy it now, though I do like bid and buy to get more exposure, since the item bounces to the first default-sorted page when someone bids. I just make sure my starting price is something I can handle.

I rarely do auction only. It gets lost too easily. Too many buyers don't realize that if they sort by time remaining, they'll see opportunities for buying something lower than the lowest buy-now price. That's usually where I GET stuff, but I don't put it there. wink

Sealed envelopes: I learned the hard way to be patient and to time things right. For example, you can sell them high for maybe a few hours when they first come out. Then the price sort of bottoms out. If Gaia posts an announcement with hints about what the items might be, ZING, the price goes right up. THAT is when to sell. Because the day the items come out, tons of people buy and the price goes lower than ever.

So from now on, I sell only when they're high, then buy my own later with my profits when the price goes down.

That depends. If I'm hanging around on Gaia and I have a hankering to watch the gold come in, I'll put ONE in at 1g lower than the lowest. But if I'm going off to do something else, like sleep, I price mine so that I'm 3rd-5th lowest. Usually, I'll have sold the item by the time I wake up, and I didn't have to settle for less!

I usualy go for a High demand Item to Bid and Buy or Bid Only at about 20-40 minutes depending on the price range it is in. I have found that if you have a fair deal but you put the Bid for much longer than that the risk for it being over looked increases for a lot of items. Some may need more time to get ot a price that is fair for both and still earns the seller a profit.
