I have been raised a catholic all my life, but I always felt something was missing. Ever since I found out about the wiccan religion, I've been attracted/interested to it.

I feel like I need to be wiccan, like it's my place, but I feel as if I would be a traitor if I do that. I know that I'm supposed to do some things in order to become wiccan too.

I'd like to hear some words of advice. I'm being torn into two...
Also, in order to become wiccan, aren't you supposed to have a mentor?

I've always got to ask this, but why Wicca? Why not eclectic neo pagan or something else? Any how if you are interested in learning more on Wicca to see if it is for you there is a marvelous thread with very good links here

Now that the little speech is out of my system on to respondign to your concerns. I can understand a lot of where you are coming from because I was raised in a very tradition Roman Catholic family too and like you I had trouble reconciling my personal beliefs with every church teaching.

For a while I forced it, but really being in the wrong religion is just that, being in the wrong religion for you. After that I looked into a lot of stuff and after a while I gave up and really just follow what I've believed all along. Its closest to some sort of ecclectic paganism, but really its not even that. Meh, I'm spiritual and its fun to call myself some kind of pagan, which is true sorta as I don't believe in YHVH.

My advice, if you don't believe it then don't follow it. Part of what a true believer of most religions does is question the message they have been taught to see if it makes sense to them. If the message doesn't make sense or doesn't work for you there is no reason to follow it and there is no need to follow something you don't believe. But then again I beleive all paths are valid, its just about finding the right one to follow.

As for the mentor thing, if you really are interested in the Lord and Lady's fertility cult you need to find a lineaged coven with people who will vouche of their authenticy that is willing to take you in as an initiate. Not the easyest thing to do in the world but not the hardest either.

Maybe not completely wicca itself. I'm gonna have to do some research.
Thank you.

I can feel where you're coming from. I was also raised catholic, but could never really find any faith in it. I ended up taking a different path altogether, but I can tell you that it's not going to be a good transition no matter what religion you go to. In the end, you just have to pick a religion because of you. If you feel like a traitor in a religion, maybe it's not the right one for you, but you'll find the right one eventually.

Wicca is the Fertility Cult of the Lord and Lady of the Isles. If that's not what you're into, I suggest looking somewhere else. I'm not allowed to try to convert you to my religion (because if a potential member is not entirely sure that it's what he/she wants, we don't want them. XD), but I'm sure that some of the others on this guild won't mind trying, and I'll certainly give you information if you really want. *Is an expert on most religions, except for the really obscure ones he's never even heard of.* ^_^

Don't worry Darin there doesn't seem to be the misuse of the term wicca here, just a general curiousity.

Out of curiousity, what is your religion?

I don't know. You just feel like that, you know? Like... following it blindly.

I don't wanna break out in rant of religional holdings, so, I'll just make my usual short, sweet statement first here... Don't be preasured or conned into thinking there is only one devine path of religion to follow. Follow what YOU think is best for you and let it be but a simple path and such. If you feel it is too controling and restrictive as well as not something you are really apart of, then change it. Religion is a special device ment for character and help of judgement. If you feel you HAVE to live with something that makes you feel miserable, then what life will you lead?

Now then..... Christianity/Catholisizm and all that jazz can be pretty dangerous (Now, I have met and seen some good people, but a good 80% or more are down right mean and evil). Now, I understand it might be hard to change a belief system when you're raised with it, but it's not always there to shackle you down. Like... OK, older people who went to the dentist would go and wind up getting mercury drilled into their teeth for fillings. MERCURY. The very poision that we all try to avoid in foods and objects. But now you can have the dangerous stuff drilled back out. The same thing can work with religion as well.

My advice to you is just whatever you decite to find and go with, make sure it doesn't rule everything you do, make you miserable, and cause harm/judgement to others. Many people think the path of one's religion is what makes people better people, when in fact religion can take the nicest person and make them the grandest of assholes due to thier religional rulings.

You're like, 16? You're still really young and will have a lot of time to find something you feel is right for you. So no rush and no worries for now. Just be safe and sure, and good luck ^^.

I know what you're talking about as well. Though Im not/was chatholic, not even christian, I was raised as a baha'i (pretty recent religion which isnt mainstream but is very mainstream in beliefs and stuff. just like another prophet. anyways, just included this cause not too many people know of it.) and never ever, even as a kid, thought of myself being a baha'i myself. i respect the religion but its not /me/. so anyways, now Im not really anything under a name, except maybe eclectic pagan

so, long story short, Im much happier now not having to bend to other beliefs. (another reason why i didnt want to become baha'i was that they tend to have heterosexual dominancy/homophobia present, or at least intolerance. but anyways) so there could be a number of good reasons to step away from it.

as for the traitorous feelings, im thinking this stems from what you think your parents reaction would be? (im lucky in that my moms newage anyways and dad doesnt know) this is kind of hard to get around, but theyll grow understanding eventually if youre not radical and not in their faces about it =)

anyways, good luck ^^

Can't say that I do. Perhaps you should simply learn more about your faith and then reevaluate whether or not you can truthfully proclaim that you believe it.

Well maybe it's the Church you belong to? Christian churches can vary so much. You can still be Christian, and believe differently from others, you don't have to believe everything the Church believes.

Catholics - they teach you that your evil if your not one of them. (not all but most) You don't need a mentor, but they are so very useful. There is such thing as Xtian Wiccas (as some call themselves). I just did a little ritual declaring myself Wiccan. It depends what type of Wicca your going for - Gardner's are almost like a structured religion. If it's what you feel inside then do whats right for you and go with your gut.
