~ The Goose Girl ~

Characters:
The Princess
The Dog
The Unkind Servant
The Prince
The Goose Boy
The Queen/Mother

Story Synopsis:

A Princess is sent by her mother to a far distant castle to marry a hansome prince. With her she sends a wonderful dowry, a Servant and the faithful royal Dog. Also the mother sends an emroidered handkerchief with the princess so that she might not forget her mother and where she came from. Thus the three characters set out for a far distant castle.

Along the way, the princess gets thirsty, and she asks the Servant (who is unkind by heart) to stop and get her a drink of water from the stream. The servant basically tells the princess to go stuff it where the sun don't shine, and the princess goes to get her own water from the stream. Later that same day, the princess notices that the dog is getting thirsty, and so (without thinking back on the earlier cause and effect) she asks the servant to get the dog a drink of water from the stream... The servant is unfailing in her rudeness and tells the princess that she might as well suck a duck cause as far as she was concerened the Servant didn't have to be a servant anymore. So the princess gets the dog some water herself... As the princess is getting the water the servant gets a new found case of bully-itis and makes the princess open up the dowry. Then she makes the princess give her her crown and all her princessly goods. The servant even makes them change clothes. The princess keeps good humour (is a pushover really) and does everything the servant says until she tries to take the handkerchief from the princess. Being that it's the only thing that she'll have to remind her of her mother, the princess doens't want to give it up. The servant tries to push the subject, but the dog tries to bite her whenever she gets close, so she pushes the princess who drops the cloth into the stream and it floats away. The dog jumps in after it and floats away as well... little did the dog know that he was really more important to the princess than the cloth, and she becomes distraught. The servant takes advantage of this and tells the princess that now the dog is gone there's no-one to save her. She tells the princess that they're trading places and that if she tells anyone then the servant will kill her.

They continue traveling and soon enough arive at the castle. The new queen is waiting there with her son the prince. The Unkind servant is haughty and rude, and the prince doesn't like her much. When asked who the sad looking girl is, the unkind servant (nowprincess) says that she's an ungrateful servant who is no longer needed and that they can do whatever they like with the girl. The Princess, so distraught over the loss of her dog, and her handkerchief, doesn't protest this and she lets herself be assigned as the assistant assistant goose keeper. The goose boy that she's assigned to help turns out to be really rude and quite mean. He tells her that she can't work in that muddy dress that she's wearing and that she can wear some hand-me-down pants and tunic that he has in the stables. Thus she becomes the Goose girl.

Meanwhile, in the castle, the unkind servant has been making a nusiance of herself with her rudeness and her lack of kindness and manners. The prince finds himself bored and goes out into the courtyard for some air.

The dog... WHO DID NOT DROWN ... has come to the castle, and he finds the princess in her new goose girl clothes. She is so happy to see him that she doesn't seem to care that she's lower than she's ever been before. The dog gives her the handkerchief and she takes it. The Goose boy comes out and tells her that the mangy mutt can't be hanging around all the geese like that and she'll have to kick it out. But she's not about to let the dog be taken away again so she convinces the Goose boy that the dog would be a good idea because he'd keep away the wolves. The goose boy starts to argue, but the prince comes up. He seems to take a liking to the dog and he tells the goose boy to go do something else. Then the prince asks the princess what the dog's name is, and she tells him. The prince mistakes her for a boy and he and she talk about him marrying the unkind servant (princess) since it's what's on his mind. The princess tells him that sometimes things don't work out like they should, and that people just have to deal with that kind of thing. He says that he'd rather fight a fire breathing dragon than have to marry the unkind servant. Meanwhile, the unkind servant comes out looking for the prince, only to find him talking to the princess. She gets mad and tells him that he shouldn't be talking to girls who were uncultured enough to wear pants. He's surprised to learn that the goose girl is, in fact, a girl and he laughs. Then the Unkind servant sees the dog and she gets mad. She says she thought that the dog was dead and wants to know if it has her handkerchief. The princess stands in front of the dog and says no, he doesn't have it. The unkind servant gets pulled off by the prince (who's just trying to keep the peace) leaving only the princess and the dog. But the Goose boy is listening to what she tells the dog as she tells him to take the handkerchief and hide it. The dog does and then the goose boy goes to tell the unkind servant.

(( at this point there's a dead horse's head mounted over the door who tells the princess what to do, but I think someone else can do that to get rid of the creepy horse head ))

The dog returns to the girl, and the prince comes back to talk to her, but she doesn't see him and ends up lamenting to the dog about her situation. The prince hears... she tells the dog that she doesn't care about the handkerchief as long as the dog is safe... the prince goes to tell the queen (his mother), meanwhile the unkind servant and the gooseboy come down into the scene to pick on the princess and the dog, the prince comes to tell everyone that he knows and the queen is close behind trying to stop him. This results in a super hyping crazy chase scene (always fun) which ends in a funny-esque tablou. Blah blah blah... everyone knows everything. The Prince gets the princess, the queen punishes the goose boy, the dog bites the unkind servant in the rear end (in the tale the servant is dragged to death, but I think bitten in the butt is enough) ((none of these stories end well for the bad guy... it's upsetting.)) .. life goes on, don't lie, don't bully, don't abuse animals, find a rich and handsome guy and marry him so solve all your problems.

The end.
