Since we have a thread on Greco-Roman mythology, why not one about Japanese mythology too? My interest has been stoked from playing the video game Okami. There are many myths and legends woven throughout the story and it saddened me that I wasn't familiar with many of them.
This weekend I purchased a book called Myths and Legends of Japan by F. Hadland Davis. It was the only book I could find at Borders on that specific topic, but I flipped through and scanned some of it. It looked to be decent enough.
Anyone have a favorite legend or know of good books to recommend on the subject?

I admit that I've always been equally interested in Japanese myth, but for lack of resources, haven't been able to learn much about it. Book recommendations would be appreciated!!
The only two legends I know, and those vaguely, are how the Rabbit got onto the Moon, and something about an Old Man and Cherry blossom trees...

The Pantheon collections of folklore & literature are excellent. I just finished reading their collection of Japanese tales & highly recommend it.
