Sauda stretched himself out under the hot noon sun. It was a lazy sort of day; the heat permeated everything around it and after spending hours in the cool of the den the dog was ready to sun himself. He had climbed up onto one of the rocks nearby and laid himself out, belly up, to the sun and sky above.

After a few moments of lounging on his stomach he turned himself over, his tail working over-time to cool his hind end. The world was fairly quiet, a few birds could be heard overhead, but other than that there was nothing to disrupt this peace. Sauda closed his eyes and began to nod off, thinking he could catch a few moments of sleep before returning inside.

Lela'bahari had sprawled herself outside the den beneath the shade of tree for her afternoon nap. The den was too hot, as most of the pack sought out it's expansive shade during the height of the day. The black and blue female lay on her stomach, paws stretched straight out from her body. If it wasn't for the gentle rise and fall of her side, one could have assumed she had 'passed on' in her sleep. Or had either suffered a mammoth heart attack and had fallen straight over without moving an inch.

Though she could normally sleep through the insect racket of the day, Lela was drawn from sleep by the harsh cracking of hundreds of cicadas. They always seemed to be loudest during the sun's pinnacle. Her head popping up first, Lela gazed around blearily, yawning widely. Her tail began beating gently behind her, and she rose to her paws, stretching each individual leg. Being careful to keep quiet (the whole pack was asleep), Lela decided it might be a good time to sneak down to the watering hole for a nice romp in the water. She'd never grow too old for that.

Padding in that general direction, she paused as she neared one of the large rocks dotting the terrain. She tilted her head as she spied one of her many siblings, a grin spreading over her maw. She giggled. "Trying to get a tan, are we?" she yipped lightly.

Sauda had been on the very of sweet dreams when his sister approached. He opened one eye slowly to gaze at her in a lazy manner before shifting his weight to his side. Truth be told he had been sure that no one else was awake, or at least he thought he had been, and was disappointed to see Lela.

"Perhaps I am," he replied off-handedly. His tail flicked back and forth against his body, "Off for adventure?"

Very slowly he got himself to his feet, taking care to stretch his legs before jumping off that rock of his. If she was going to disturb his sun bath then there was no reason that he couldn't disturb her fun. Plus, off all his many siblings, it seemed that Lela was the only one he didn't know very well. So naturally Sauda was going to follow; he was a dog who liked to stick by his family and at the very least he'd have some fun today.

He trodded over towards his sister, tail wagging excitedly now. The thought of sleep had just recently left his mind and the thought of racing his sister to her destination sounded much more amusing. "So, where you off to?"

The female grinned widely, her tail swishing back and forth in the constantly good-natured manner it always did. She sat her rump against the ground, watching him. "Maybe, maybe not," she teased.

It was true that Lela didn't know her siblings all that well. Of course, there was the automatic affection for one's family, but beyond that...Lela was entirely unfamiliar with most of them. Sure, they'd played as pups around the den, but as Lela had grown older, she'd drifted, her soul longing for grand adventures and a constantly changing home. Perhaps she had unwittingly placed a wall of distance between herself and her family on the off chance that she took an opportunity to leave.

Lela laughed lightly, dancing to her paws. Maybe it would be nice to have some company this time. Maybe she'd even change her course and show him...That was it! They must go there. Trotting a few steps away from him, Lela looked coyly over her shoulder. "It's a secret. A secret adventure."

Childish tendencies never seemed to fade from Lela. But whether that was a good thing or a bad thing was based on her companion's opinion. baring excitedly, her slender legs began a slow lope in the opposite direction, an open invitation to follow.

((ah, but I do anyways. xp It's the one thing I want to be good at.))

The dog grinned to himself as his sister teased him. As he had grown older Sauda had taken to being teased unlike when he was younger and had always preferred an outright answer. Maybe it was just time and the realization that his family wasn't trying to exclude him or maybe he was just growing up, but whatever the reason he knew that he loved a good mystery.

A grin spread out on his face as Lela leapt to her feet excitedly. It was obvious from her reaction that where ever they were going was going to be fun. Without a second thought Sauda was on his feet, ready to follow.

"A secret," he repeated with a skeptical tone. "There's no place here that's a secret to me."

If it was one thing he took pride in it was the fact that he had explored most of this area. Then again that was as a small pup, since then he had wanted to stay as close to the den and the others as possible. It was strange but his ties to his pack only seemed to intensify over the years and his wanderlust had all but left him. Perhaps it was the snake bite he had received as a pup that had caused the change.

Of course he fed off her energy and became just as excited as she was. He bounded after her, yipping happily, finally happy to be doing something with his pack mates. More importantly a sibling.

Lela loped for only a short distance before easing to a mild walk. The wild dog had never been fond of running for great distances, often times preferring a smooth walk and the opportunity to stop and smell the scenery. She glanced back over her shoulder, waiting until Sauda was near her to speak. "This one must be. It's my secret place," she grinned, casting him a secretive glance.

Lela also took some pride in exploring, though she'd tended to ignore the close area and had branched out quite a distance. It was amazing she'd made it past puppyhood, what with strange encounters with cheetahs and rogue wild dogs (insane ones, we might add). Even now, Lela ventured even further. Why, not but a day ago she'd returned from a trip to the Pridelands. Not that her absence had been noticed by the rest of the pack. She wasn't exactly a pivotal member.

Curling her tail over her back playfully, Lela set herself to an easy trot. "It's a good ways away. Hope you're up for the trip," she said, grinning good-naturedly.

And indeed it was. A good twenty minutes without break in pace, and Lela was dead tired as they approached her secret place. Her pink tongue lolled from her mouth as she panted, but water was soon ahead. Nodding her head in the general direction, she spoke, "Just through there." A last burst of energy and Lela bounced towards the densest part of undergrowth, a section that didn't even look passable. Since she had grown, it was necessary from Lela to crouch down, her belly dragging the ground to get through the narrow entryway and succeeding tunnel. Stopping just where the tunnel grew in height, high enough for an adult to comfortably stand, Lela turned back. Her tail brushed the thick curtain of ivy and other strange vegetation just behind her. She barked to her brother, full to the brim with excitement. She couldn't wait to show him!

Sauda followed Lela at a close distance so that he didn't miss out on anything. He wasn't so concerned with the path it took to get there because he was too excited. In the end he knew that he'd never find it again without her help but it could just be their secret.

There were a few things he recognized, the small creek that seemingly went to nowhere and then the tallest tree in the whole of the area. Of course he didn't really remember which way they were turning but if he could remember the landmarks he'd be able to find it. It would be fun, if he could find it again, to surprise her; she really shouldn't have decided to show it to him.

He followed through in silence, squeezing through the tight entrance way. Both dogs were tired and Sauda almost gave up as his belly scraped the ground; the only thing keeping him from laying down right there and then was the thought of finding out what it was she was hiding from him. He wasn't too far behind his sister and he heard her loud bark echo off the walls, spurring him on until he caught up with her.

Wagging his tail excitedly, Sauda nudged up up to the ivy, "Well, come on then!"

Lela didn't mind if Sauda returned to her secret place - that was the whole point. Lela was tired of being the only one (besides that psycho wild dog) that knew about the beautiful location, so she absolutely had to share it. She waited, bouncing on her front paws, until she saw the nose of her brother emerge from the low tunnel. She nodded, and then moved forward through the lush curtain of ivory.

Beyond the green drapery, it was a perfect paradise. The trees grew thick here, and so close together that their trunks had twined together like lovers, making it impossible to leave by any other means that the small tunnel. Their canopies made a dome roof overhead, the small gaps allowing thin rays of sunlight to dapple the entire area in a luminescent green light. The grass was soft and thick, but not terribly tall. Ferns grew along the edges, and ivy covered everything, dotting the entire place with tiny white blooms. The small sanctuary rang with the echoes of birdsong and the chirping of bugs.

But while the perimeter was beautiful, it was what was in the middle that had caused Lela to fall in love with the location. Directly in the center of the clearing was a deep pool, filled with cool, clear water. Tall reeds and small rocks formed a ring around it, but on the farthest side was a large rock formation. Ferns and other lovely flowers sprung from odd places on the large boulder. Towards the base of the rock, where the different areas of stone formed flat, wide steps, there was the faintest tinkle of water. Upon closer inspection, one would fine a large crack very near the water's surface, out of which a small waterfall poured.

Bouncing into the clearing, Lela immediately turned back to face her brother. Her tail beating the air rapidly, she grinned. "Isn't it wonderful?"

As Sauda made his way in he began to smell things that he he knew very well but they were in very large quantities. His body squeezed through the covering and emerged on the other side suddenly surrounded by the lush green settings. Under his feet grew thick grass and his paws flinched at sudden springy sensation.

All around him were tall, entwining, trees that he never knew existed before. Outside of this little alcove there were no signs of the beauty inside it, in fact he had never seen signs of the trees or even the opening she had shown him. So he was a little more than surprised when he properly stepped into the enclosure.

He took another look around before declaring, "It's beautiful!"

Bounding off, full of energy, he dove head first into the pool of water in the middle of it all. He splashed around for a short time, rolling around wetting himself to cool down, before he got out and shook water all over his sister in an invitation to play. Barking, Sauda jumped back in the water and wagged his tail excitedly, waiting for her to join him.

Lela grinned as Sauda bounced off. She followed him slowly, easily lazing across the plush ground. This was her absolute favorite place in the world, and she was glad she finally had someone from her own family to share it with. Sure, she'd run into that psycho female here, but that didn't count. Truthfully, Lela planned to bring her pups here if she ever had any. It was the perfect, safe area for pups to play.

Wagging her tail slowly, Lela approached the water's edge. She giggled at Sauda's antics, but that soon turned to barks as water was splashed all over her. Yipping, she climbed up onto the highest rock as Sauda reentered the water. Lowering her front end in a play bow, she patted her paws against the warm stone before leaping from it, landing in the water right beside her brother and causing a huge splash. Any small fish that lived in the crisp pool were bound to have fled to the bottom in fear.

Resurfacing completely soaked, Lela paddled in the water. As she drew close to her brother, she shifted her weight upwards, placing her paws on his back and pushing down. Her mouth locked gently on his ear as she growled playfully, tugging on it. That would teach him to splash her!

((Sorry hun, I'm directing a show for my school and my boyfriend is leaving this week...so between the two I haven't felt up to/had time to post.))

Sauda barked loudly as his sister nearly fell on him as she flopped into the water. He floundered for a second, caught totally off guard by the wave that she emitted as she came tumbling down, and he came up, coughing up water. Once his lungs were clear enough he barked at her, very unhappy to nearly have drowned and as she nipped his ear he playfully bit her neck.

Using all his strength, he placed his paws on her shoulder and tackled her into the shallow water. He bit her neck again before jumping off her, running a short ways away, and mock bowing at her, wagging his tail high in the air. If she wanted to play rough, he could play rough right back.

When she didn't run over right away he jumped around her in circles, barking and trying to entice her to follow him. Feeling even more playful he took off, trying to find a spot in between the rocks to hide as best he could. If he hadn't been so excited he might have blended in very well, hiding in the shadows, but as it was his pink tail was just too excited to stay still.

((that's fine, love. -snugs- My muse is uber dead, so excuse the craptasicalness of this post ;_; ))

Lela giggled as she was pushed into the shallows, landing herself with a mouthful of water. Spluttering, she rolled to her belly as Sauda leapt away, a mock-glare in her eyes. She barked as he play bowed, pushing herself up onto her dainty paws. They slapped the shallow water merrily as her tail curled over her back. It had been forever since Lela had actually played with anyone. She couldn't remember the last time.

She climbed out of the water as he circled her. Pretending to be horribly disdainful, the made a slight 'hmph' sound and tilted her nose high in the air, her blue eyes shutting snobbishly. Her tail flicked water droplets are her sibling as he darted away. She stood in position for a few moments, one eye cracked open. So he wanted to play hide and seek, eh? That was something she could do. Though neither of them would be the most amazing hiders, due to the bright colors that dotted their pelts.

Turning in a circle, Lela sought him out among the shadows. She yipped lightly, grinning as she spied the rapidly movement of pink out of the corner of her eye. Attempting to be sneaky, she stalked silently around the opposite way, climbing with little noise onto the boulders near Sauda's hiding place. Crawling to the edge on her belly, she poked her head over and barked quite loudly, a bark mixed with laughter. "Found ya!"

((Blarg...why does life always get in the way of things?))

Sauda jumped out of the shadows as she caught him by surprise. A loud bark emitted from the back of his throat; so she had found him, that was entirely too quick. His tail flicked back and forth as he tried circling her ready to pounce on her at any moment. If this game was going to be won so easily he'd choose a different one, one that he could win.

Grinning in a dogish way, he put his front paws up on her sides and tackled her to the ground, nipping lightly at her neck. He was good at wrestling so he was very confident in his ability to keep her on the ground. Of course it was way too easy for him to just stand on top of her and n** at her so feeling generous, he got up off her and barked at her, beckoning her to try and tackle him.

"Come on! Bet ya can't take me down!" he challenged, tail wagging high in the air. It was obvious that he was confident in his ability to stay standing. So he crouched low, wagged his pink spotted tail, and barked at her to get her to attempt it.
PostPosted: Fri Apr 27, 2007 1:17 pm

Lela fell very easily to the ground, giggling the whole way. She was a very petite, gracefully-figured wild dog, so it was all too easy to tackle her. She snaked her head around, nipping playfully at the paws that held her against the plush grass. Yet as soon as her brother got up, Lela danced to her paws quickly. She mimicked his playbow, beating her paws against the earth.

Her tail waving furiously, she bounded forward. Even though she was sure she hit her brother quite hard, Lela's weight wasn't enough to knock any male canine on his side. So, instead, she reared up on her back paws and place her front legs over his spine, biting at the nape of his neck.

Barking, she danced away from him, panting heavily. It'd been a while since she'd played with anymore, much less one of her own siblings. However, a quick glance to the sky made her pause. The heavens were painted in shades of red and orange. It was nearing sunset. Eyes widening, she called to her brother. "It's almost time for the ceremonies! We have to get back soon, or mum will scold us again," she laughed. "Race you!" she cried, before turning in a circle and bounding out of her small oasis, not pausing to see if he was behind her.

Heart pounding excitedly in her chest, she relished the feel of the grass beneath her paws. It was so good to be home again.

((figured I'd go ahead and end it since it's been so long. x3))
