I can't keep this thing near the fretboard. I was doing some chop building exercises I found in an old Guitar One and as I was doing them I realized that my pinky was screwing up my timing, I can't help but lift it far from the fretboard when it's time to change strings. Are there any exercises that you know of that might correct this problem. I really want to get my form down now and I'm thinking of taking a few lessons, I've really been stubborn about taking them but I think it may be for the better.

You could do the cromatic scale up the fretboard on one string, go back down, and do it on the other strings. Don't forget to use a metronome :B

...and start off SLOW. if you cant keep time with the metronome because of your pinkey then you have to slow it down more, remember practice practice practice does nothing if you practice wrong!!

Finger weights or a Grip Master will help.

full silver warrior You could do the cromatic scale up the fretboard on one string, go back down, and do it on the other strings. Don't forget to use a metronome :B That's a good one. It helped with my accuracy for fretting notes. Steve Vai anyone? twisted
