Well, this is a new journal. Take will teach me to leave it laying around within arm's reach of a growing baby. She decided that it would make a good chew toy. Heh. By the time I was able to get it away from her, most of the pages were soaked with spittle, and the paragraphs were unable to be read. Luckily, most writers [amateur or not] usually have more than one journal laying around. So I was able to ready another one in quite quick order. The original is laying out to dry, though. I'm hoping to be able to salvage something.

So I've never been good at keeping things updated. At least I am good at caring for my children. Most of my time this month has been spent at amusement parks, regular parks, faires, outdoor summertime fun situations...thing like that. And I can tell you, as much as I love carnivel food, eatting it every weekend is not good for you.
Sharaka is starting to figure out how to walk. Slowly, at least. She must have a really hard bum, or her diaper is padded extra well as much as she falls and doesn't get hurt. She loves being outside, especially when we're swimming. She's already learned how to hold her breath, and I can let her go, and she's able to get herself back up to the surface of the water easily. She's my little fish.
She also has a fondness for clowns... which...doesn't exactly work out with me, since I'm horribly terrified of them. But I let Joel take her when they go. He doesn't have a problem with them. Symara and I [we're both terrified] like to keep our distance.

Just a few more weeks, and the twins will be starting school. It's almost hard to believe. Luckily, it's only a half-day kindergarten, and they'll be going in the afternoons, so I'll be able to wake them up and get them dressed and feed and fully alert before they have to leave.
Sharaka understands that they're going to be gone most of the day soon, and she isn't happy about it. She'll cling to Joel every time he goes to try and leave the room, and she'll scream and scream for him if he's gone for too long. She has even done the clinging thing to Symara, but she doesn't scream when Sym's out of the room.
Symara seems to think it's rather insulting that Sharaka isn't as attached to her as she is with Joel, but then I have to remind Sym that she didn't exactly care for Sharaka when she arrived. Her response?
'Of course I didn't care for her. When she showed up, that meant Donnie had to leave'
For some crazy reason, Sym actually got attached to Adonia. Of all the things, that's something I never would have believed if Symara hadn't said it herself.

All of our preporations went into today when I ushered Joel and Symara out to the big yellow school bus for their first day of kindergarten. Sharaka was clinging to Joel, whimpering until he kissed her on the forehead and promised he'd bring her back something to 'investigate'.
That's her title word, investigate. Trollax says she's got to be the most curious baby he's ever seen, next to the stories his mother used to tell about him at that age. She loves to just sit and examine things, sometimes for hours, depending upon how complex it is.
She's started talking to herself when she's playing, too. I'll just sit and watch her for hours. I may not be able to understand what she's saying - since most of it is just baby babble to me - but she certainly seems to.
She's learned a lot of words, but rarely uses them. She's not a conversationalist. Sometimes the most I can ever get out of her directly at 'Please', 'More', and 'Now'. But that's enough for me for right now. She'll let me know what she needs to. The rest she can figure out on her own and use it when she sees fit. Joel's told me more than once that she knows what she's talking about when she feels the urge to actually speak.

Pen's excused due to a school induced hiatus. We are aware of that. This post will be removed once we hear from her again. 3nodding

I feel have to apologize for not writing. Trollax had a rather unexpected promotion, and we had to move house with very little notice. We've finally got settled. At least it was before Joel and Symara got too settled at school, so they weren't too distressed about it. We enrolled them in a new kindergarten program.
I also enrolled Sharaka into a pre-K day care session. I wasn't too sure about it, but Trollax insisted. A child needs more contact with other children, and brothers and sisters aren't always able to provide that. It lasts as long as Joel and Symara's kindergarten days do, and it's just right across the street from the elementary school ((actually, it really reminds me of my childhood)) so I go and pick the twins up then we all go and pick up Sharaka.
The teachers there say she's a really smart child when you can get her to pay attention, but she's more of a free spirit, nature girl. That she spends their outside time sitting quietly making daisy chains while the other kids charge around, and that during free play, she'll go through all the picture books over and over again and just ignore the more colorful and noisey toys.
I just smiled and nodded. For being adopted, she's starting to act amazingly like I did at her age.
