Leonard ran, pushing his legs to run faster. It had been a long time since he'd pushed himself so hard, and it showed. His legs burned with the effort, and his breathing was ragged. None of his physical discomfort registered though. Only a single thought went through his head; that he had to get to Dixie, so they could escape this place!
He'd just met...what was it he just met? It told him it was a human, or at least it had been at some point. It said its name was Stewart. ...That he and Dixie were stuck there, that they were going to end up like him! The urge to deny it was nearly overwhelming. All he wanted to do was go back to his duplex and sleep; pretend it never happened. As much as he wanted to though, he couldn't. The fur had felt too real, and the horns were definitely rooted in the skull.
Leonard reached the stairs leading up to Dixie's duplex, taking them two at a time and trying to shout her name. Breathless from his sprint, all that came out was a hoarse croak. At the top, he practically threw himself at the door, gasping for air and beating on it with his fist.

Dixie had been enjoying her time in Mexico, who knew that those men with the private jet would take them to such a nice place? But she did have one complaint: Where were all the hot men? This was just like the resorts they showed all the time on MTV’s spring break, so where were all those sweaty shirtless college boys? That and the fact she had to be around Leonard so much, but other than that she was in fat heaven.
Today, she was busy putting on make up for what she hoped to be a very successful evening. Dixie had just discovered that this resort had a free bar, and she knew there had to be at least one hot college boy there. She had already done her hair and makeup, and it looked amazing as usual. Now she was just putting the finishing touches on her lipstick when Leonard started banging on the door. Jumping, she created a long line of smudged lipstick running down her cheek. You've got to feel bad for poor Leonard, all he wanted to do was warn the woman she loved! But when she looked in the mirror and found out just how bad it was, well she was just a little more than pissed. “LEONARD, IF THAT'S YOU, YOU'D BETTER HAVE A DAMN GOOD REASON FOR BOTHERIN’ ME.” She yelled before throwing open the door.

However frightening the concept of real animal-people might be, there was one thing that frightened Leonard more, and that was upsetting Dixie. She had a terrible temper when she was angry, and as of late, Leonard was the one she took it out on.
Of course he didn't love her any less because of it. After all, it was his fault that he upset her. However badly he screwed up though, she had always come back to him. She had even stayed with him after the incident at the mine. If anything, the fact that she had stayed with him made him love her even more.
The sound of her yelling let him know that he'd done something to upset her once again, and the threat of the island was nearly forgotten as she opened the door.
"Dixie!" He gasped out, still slightly winded from his mad dash. "Is everything okay dear? Do you want me to get something for you? Some water? I could run back to the cafeteria and get you some, it's not far, really, I was just there actually and I...." Their predicament skipped his mind as he rambled, doing his best to calm her down. "...or maybe a sandwich, I saw they had some nice cold cuts, and some good looking fruit..."
He rambled on some more, the only thing he could think of to do.

What in the name was Sam Hill was he talking about? Is this what he bothered her about? He nearly knocked her door down to ask if she wanted room service!??! Trying to resist urges to sucker punch him, she crossed her arms and said "You did all of this to ask if I wanted anything?" Pointing to her face she continued "LOOK at what you did to me, hours of hard work and all of it ruined. Leonard, you better have a much better reason for nearly knocking down my door. Or I swear on my mother's grave I'm gonna be madder than a bobcat caught in a piss fire"

Leonard trailed off. Why had he come here?
The goat! They were going to be turned into animals, and he had come to get her so they could escape! He hadn't exactly worked out [ihow they were going to escape, but a the moment he was only concerned about getting away from the duplexes.
"Dixie, we have to get away, or we're going to be turned into goats!" He grabbed her hand, trying to pull her towards the stairs. "Come on, hurry, we can hide in the jungle...or...or something!"

"GOD DAMN IT LEONARD" She screamed pulling her arm away from Leonard and shoving him away from her "YOU RUINED MY ENTIRE EVENING JUST TO TELL ME SOME BULLSHIT STORY? DO YOU THINK THIS IS FUNNY? DO YOU ENJOY MESSING WITH ME?!?" She could hardly believe this! Turning into goats? Where did he get this stuff from? Movies? Book? Whatever it was, she was going to make sure he would never read or see it ever again.

He stumbled back, trying to keep his balance. She thought he was making it up? He supposed it was hard to believe, but he wouldn't lie to her. He cringed, fearful of her anger
"Dixie, please, I'm not making this up! I met a person! And he was a goat! He said the same thing was going to happen to us here!" His voice was almost a whine. He was panicking quite a bit, his emotions in turmoil after meeting Stewart and having Dixie yell at him. Whether she believed him or not though, he had to try and save her.
Doing his best to regain his composure, Leonard stepped forward, trying to take her hand again. It was the most backbone he'd ever shown to her. "Please, we need to go!

He was still going on about this? How stupid did he think she was?!? She was about to tell him he really needed to knock it off, but before she could yell anything he tried to grab her again. Some would say it was the straw that broke the camels back, but others would just say that this girl had snapped a long time ago.
That aside, she was speechless, she couldn't believe he was doing this to her! What nerve! After all she had done for him! And this is how he repaid her? Trying to run away again, and the horrible reason that they were turning into animals!?! Dixie wasn't sure what exactly to do, she had never had a man stand up like this to her before. So she smacked him, she smacked him hard. Then after that she hissed "Don't you ever grab me like that ever again, or I will ******** kill you. And stop lying to me, I'm really getting tired of this little game of yours." And from the death glare she was giving Leonard at the moment, you knew she wasn't joking around either.

Leonard fell backwards, not as much from the force of the blow, but from the shock. She had hit him? In all the time they'd spent together, she'd never actually hit him. He rubbed his stinging cheek and jaw with his hand, looking up at her with shock. Now she was threatening to kill him? Tears filled his eyes as the woman he loved glared at him. He felt a pain as his heart started to break.
No! He refused to believe that she would act like this under normal circumstances. It was just stress that was causing her to act this way. After the incident, and having to move away from home, she was just stressed. It didn't help that what he was trying to tell her didn't make any sense. He still felt though, that it was his duty to save her.
"Honey, I wouldn't lie to you, I really did meet a goat person." His voice was quiet and wavering, and tears threaten spill down his face.

Dixie was amazed, that didn’t shut him up? Wasn’t he afraid of her? Why wasn’t he dropping this stupid story? Did he have any common sense at all? She tried to keep the look of amazement off her face as she said harshly ”Don’t you dare Honey me Leonard. You can’t sweet talk your way out of this one! You need to stop this, now. I can’t believe you’re still doing this to me! How can you still have the nerve to say that to my face!?!“ She was amazed that he was still going on with this ruse. Did he really thing she would get up and run away just because of his story? Dixie was torn between being confused and really pissed. What should she do now? Her anger was slowly smoldering out, she found that yelling was getting her no where. But if she didn’t yell or hit, what could she do to get him to stop?

Try as she might, Dixie wasn't completely succesful at keeping the surprise from her face. Leonard caught it, and it gave him the courage to stand up to her even more. He had to help her, whether she knew she needed it or not.
"I have the nerve because I love you, Dixie." There was determination in his voice that had never been there before. He stood up, moving towards her once again, though keeping at a safe distance. "Please, if you don't believe me, come with me to the cafeteria. I'll prove I'm not lying."

"No! Nonononono!" She said backing away from him "None of this is true! There's nothing for you to prove! I'm not going anywhere with you!" She tried to say this with her meanest looking face. But it was quite obvious she was her mean exterior was cracking, and the weak defenseless girl she had hidden all these years was starting to show. "I don't believe you at all! You claim that you love me, but right now I fell like you're just using me for your sick little game, s-stay away from me!" It never hit her until afterwards just how ironic these words were. For this is what she had been doing to Leonard all along, the last thing she ever expected to happen had occurred. The tables had turned on her, Leonard now had the upper hand.

It was quite sursprising, the way Dixie was acting. She had always been so strong and tough, things that Leonard wasn't. So he assumed that she was in denial about turning into animals. He would never have guessed it was because he was standing up to her.
He continued to walk towards her, approaching her as though one would approach a frightened dog. "Honey, I would never do anything like that to you. I saw it. I saw it with my own eyes. I know it's scary, but if we hurry, we might be able to get away."
Leonard's eyes were pleading and full of hope at the same time. He felt sure that she would believe him, and that she would come with him. He slowly held out his hand to her.

The situation had just gone from bad to even worse, she was speechless. She quickly backed away from him even more, avoiding his touch like he had the plague. Now he was trying to comfort her? This was all his fault, the damage had already been done, she was humiliated. It was almost too much for Dixie to handle. Everything she had worked so hard on creating in this relationship had come crashing down. She was no longer the one in charge, Leonard had created the perfect Coup de grâce leaving her defenseless and defeated. Sure, he never meant to do this to her. He only thought he was doing good. But for someone who had never been opposed in her entire life, it was just like the final blow. She just couldn't handle dealing with him right now. She had to get away from him for a while. Not knowing what else to do, she pitifully told him to get away from her once again and slammed the door shut. Once inside the safe haven of her room she was left to wonder...Did that really happen? This was just a bad dream, right?

Leonard had been so sure she would come to him. She'd been on the verge, so he thought, or throwing herself into his arms. And then she'd shut the door in his face.
He was left outside, alone with his thoughts, with just a few birdcalls in the distance. Now what did he do? He didn't want to be an animal, but he didn't want to leave without Dixie. He couldn't just abandon her.
For a long time he stood next to her door, hoping she would change her mind and come with him. A few times he knocked on her door, but there was no reply from inside.
With a resigned sigh, he decided that he she wasn't going to leave, then he wasn't either. Slowly walking down the stairs, he went to his room beneath hers. Throwing himself on the bed, he gave in to his original impulse, and slept, trying to pretend it wasn't happening.
