This dream isn't from me but my son....my 2 yr old son. He has night terrors all the time. But this time was very odd. He was screaming for his father one morning (like 5 am)...almost hysterical. I go in & ask him what is wrong & he says he wants to see his daddy. So I take him to his father. He is shaking & just crying. He won't tell us what is wrong. Just that he wanted his daddy. Later that morning he goes to his dad & says: You hit your head & fell in the water & I tried to get you but you died. (WHAT 2 yr old says this!?!) I asked him what he said & he told me the same thing. I told him it was just a dream and that his daddy is ok.
All was well until this morning at 3am. He is yelling for his daddy again. I go in & calm him down. He gets up today & tells his dad that he was on a train, and then in his car. I haven't gotten any other details yet. I don't want to press him. Details will come later.
What do you think is happening?
Thank you, Marie

I can empathize with you on this, my sister used to have nightmares like that when she was a toddler. On occasion going so far as to strangle me in her sleep, thinking I was someone else. But I think your son is maybe having separation issues with his father. It's not unheard of, my sister's kids were like that for most of their young lives. Always afraid she wasnt coming back. So perhaps he is just afraid that his father is going to be go somewhere and not return. You're his mom, but children have a special relationship with their fathers. So maybe its just that fear of losing that stability in his life, or maybe spurred on by something he's seen on television. But if its happening every night, maybe you might want to take him to see a counselor who specializes in dealing with children. Anything else would probably scare him worse than he already is, and no child that young deserves that. But talking to him is the key, and with luck its just the normal nightmares that some children (especially in day care) seem to go through. Anyway, I hoped that helped a little.

That actually makes some sense. His father is the one that drops him off in the mornings at "school"(daycare) and I pick him up at night. This all did start when he changed schools (the vivid nightmares). Thank you very much. It always seems to help when someone else looks at it.

Well I hope he gets better, that is very stressful on small kids, but most of them do eventually grow out of it, still its hard not to worry.
