Anoki was still confused about this whole who's-the-alpha mess. It was important to know who it was, or if there were two at odds for the position. He wanted to know if there was a side he should take, or if there was just some misinformation, or if he should quietly find some other packlands. He'd been thinking so hard that he'd already passed a few rabbits, but hunger was starting to pull his attention away from his thoughts. Pausing, he let his eyes scan the area, looking for game-signs.

Jori didn't really want to plod around in the snow, and she especially wasn't fond of dragging Sade along with her. He was growing fast though, and needed to learn to hunt before something happened... No. Nothing was going to happen. So just before he got too much older. Yes. He'd have to help provide for the others in the pack, and learn to survive on his own, if it ever came down to that.

Jori started and paused - she'd been so lost in thoughts that she hadn't realized they were this close to the frozen river. Suddenly nervous, the blue female lifted her nose to the air and tested.

"Sade. Come here."

The pup stumbled and pounced his way over to her, sides heaving from exertion. Despite the work he had to do just to keep himself above the snow, a grin was plastered foolishly on his maw, and his tail wagged fiercely.

One more leap, and he'd be at his mother's side! One-two-THREE! Bunching his muscles, the pup sprang forwards and landed ungracefully beside the small blue female. He smiled up at her and waited patiently.

"You smell him too, Mama?"

"Yes."

"He's over there!"

"Yes. Stay behind me, kiddo."

Stepping lightly, Jori made her way towards the source of the scent. Sade trotted behind her, eyes bright with excitement. This was so great! And soon they would eat, and it would be even better!

Ears flicking towards the voices, Anoki's steel-blue eyes followed. The sight they gave him presented him with a few interesting conclusions. First, the pup could have passed nearly for a miniature of the wolf who'd invited him here. Second, the markings of the adult and her coloring resembled that of the pup that had been accompanying that male. It followed to reason that this femme was his mate, and this pup another of his offspring. Relaxing as he thought this out, he kept his tail lowered amiably as he spoke. "Hello. I mean no invasion, a male that looks much like him," he gestured at the pup, "Invited me here. Or gave permission, but the difference is minimal, since a female I met in these lands seemed to think a Kara was in fact the alpha, so my privelege to be here could well be null and void. My name is Anoki."

Jori blinked. Well... that was straightforward. But that didn't necessarily mean that this Anoki was telling the truth. Emerald eyes narrowed. He could just be well-informed. Wasn't too hard to get information around here, after all.

But he knew about Kara...

"Kiros and I are the alphas now." Well, true, technically. But Kiros did most of that alpha stuff. Jori never wanted the responsibility in the first place. It was hard enough taking care of two pups! "Until Kara returns."

... although as time passed, Jori began to doubt that would ever come to pass. She glanced back and brushed her tail against her pup, who beamed up at her in response. Such a good boy! If only his sister was as eager to please.

Sade's orange eyes shifted from his mother to this newcomer, at first aprehensive. Apparently deciding that a fight wasn't going to break out and require his intervention, the pup trotted forwards and sniffed at the feet of the male. He smelled... like wet and woods and hunting!

Which reminded him...

"Mama, I'm starved!" He chirped, peering up at her.

Anoki nodded as things became much clearer in his mind. "Well, that's good, I suppose...I was starting to wonder if I'd wandered into a power struggle." He chuckled softly as he looked down at the pup. "He had a pup with him as well. She very quickly named me 'Mud.'" He tilted his head. "I was trying to do a bit of hunting myself, if you wouldn't mind I'd be more than willing to help you two."

"Sade, hush!" Jori grinned apologetically at Anoki. "Sorry, he's... rather forward. You met Kiros and Pavati, huh?" The female's smile widened, but it almost seemed to have an edge of sadness to it. "She does seem to be fond of nicknames."

Jori wondered if she had a nickname for her. Maybe she didn't want to know, though. The blue female flicked an ear back and bent down to nuzzle her son. Sade allowed it for a moment, then stepped back, his little ears back against his head.

"Maaaaama, foooood!" So -what- if there was another wolf here! That didn't change the fact that they hadn't eaten in FOREVER! Sade tottered up to the stranger (Anoki? Mud was easier) and peered up at him with hopeful orange eyes.

"Yesyes! Help us get food!" Maybe they could catch something BIG! Mama always got rabbits - he wanted DEER! "Deerdeerdeer!"

"Sade --"

"Pleeeeaase?" The brown and green pup added, casting his mother an irritated glance.

"Yeah, I di--" Anoki's tail twitched in amusement despite himself as the pup promptly steamrolled over the both of them. Scattered and complicated as this pack seemed to be, at least there were a few worthwhile wolves in it. The pup's enthusiasm was infectious, besides. "Well, I'm sure we could find something at least."

Jori grinned sheepishly and wagged her tail. "You're sure you don't mind? I guess I -do- tend to get a lot of rabbits..." She nuzzled her son affectionately. "We'll see what we can get, Sadey-boy, and maybe you can get something besides rabbit for dinner, hmm?"

The female climbed to her feet as the pup jumped and bucked around her. His small voice rose up in a song, innocent joy unable to be contained. "Deer deer deer! Deerdeerdeer for diinner!"

... Jori didn't think rabbits were -that- bad. She raised a brow at the brown male. "Should we go? I caught the scent of deer a little ways off..."
