The night was chilled as the gentle northern winds spread over the lands, winding through the forest and touching all with its cold caress. The stars hung overhead in the velvety night sky, interlaced like a tapestry with the cresent moon hanging as the center of attention. Soft pale light illuminated the world below, dancing on the ground as the canopy of leaves swayed in peaceful sway due to the wind. It was a beautiful night for those who remained awake to see the splendors of this darkened production.
Just beyond the meadow, through the small insert of trees lay a stream as it crickled to add to the midnight orchestra the forest created. However, if one listened intently to the underscore...one would hear the soft cries of a child, with such light vocals singing such a sorrowfull tone. Laying half submerged on the shore, a rather small pup looking nearly like a corpse if it was not for her shaking; whimpered in tune with the stream. With her muzzle laying on the dirt which stuck to her fur, her bright blue orbs remained half lidded...holding on to stay awake with all her might. Oh how her day had been so bright and joyous, only to take a vicious turn to now surrender her to lay wounded in the dark of the night.
Wishing more than anything to see the faces of Litre, Sekani or Alexander appear through the foliage to aid her - she knew they would not be coming. Each had returned to their respectful homes like she had done...unly to find that her makeshift burrow had been occupied by a angered fox which easily overpowered the miniscule pup. The wounds on her hind legs and the bitemarks on her shoulder where he had taken a considerable nite from ached...yet were now frozen by the cold waters washing over her. In a choice to stay warm or to freeze and ease the pain...surrendering her body to the elements to ease her own pain had been an easy decision. Now began her struggle not to succumb to the welcoming comfort of a frozen sleep...Bindi had a good feeling it would be an eternal slumber.
Shifting her head lightly to gaze over her sun kissed pelt, she longed to see the sunrise she felt she was inspired from...to feel the warm rays dapple on her pelt like the embrace from a mother. Or, what she imagined the love of one would feel like...barely able to remember the wolf who brought her into this world before abruptly leaving her to fend for herself. Did she habor hatred for her? Not really, even if her feeling of self worth had been drastically reduced...what was in store for her when no one actually wanted her, actually cared for her condition? What a dream that was...one which she clung onto like she did her current consiousness. Morning would come soon...she just had to stay awake, it was that simple. See the sunrise and live another day, or fall into the darkness and never be seen from again.
"I...can make it. I can't die now.." She sighed out, her jaw clacking against her upper row of canines as she curled her body to the best of her ability to conserve the little warmth she had in her body. Knowing the water around her eyes had not been from the stream, they were much too warm for that.

The night had stirred a chorus of natures soothing composures to create wonderment and a mysterious feeling devoted to the darkness of the night. The gentle winds whispered amongst the boughs of the trees, swaying them back and forth with its stories while the brooks and streams seeemed to babble peacefully, speaking in tongues that, some say, wolves with great powers could understand. Even as the stars were scattered across the heavens and the cresent moons light doused the land with what randiance it could muster, darkness still prevailed and even the most enchanting of nights was full of grief, pain and suffering and a talk with good ol' dad.
Within the seclusion of night, father and son aimbled through the small meadow as they trailed alongside the river and out towards their usual hideaway. It wasn't anything extravagent or a place coveted by all- for it was just a small grove of trees where the banks of the river could be inhabited in seclusion.
The tawny, carrot colored male chuckled softly as he flopped onto his side several feet away from the small insert of trees. "Feels good to just look at the stars, doesn't it Dax?" Jaxom grinned, turning onto his back as he peered up towards the heavens. Although Dax was more conservative with himself and did fluxuate in his temperments, peace and solitude as well as having someone to care for him alway seemed to be key in helping to soothe his unrest.
Leaping upwars onto his fathers, chest, the icy, blue orbs of the black and white swirled male glanced upwards towards the heavens and then settled back upon his father. "Yeah," he nodded as he curled upon his chest, tucking his tail close to him.
Smirking, Jaxom breached upwards and wrapped his paws around his son and growled playfully. "You just like to cause trouble don't cha, Dax?" Rustling his son's head with his paws, the beta laughed. "Actin' tough, eh?"
Suddenly taken into a headlock, and held hostage by his own father, Dax squirmed and pawed at his Dad's muzzle. "I don't cause THAT much trouble and actin' tough is what me and Fen do best!" Swatting upwards and stretching his maw upwards to gnaw upon his fathers ear.
"Fen and I are real tough!" He prided, puffing his chest out.
"Tough troublemakers that I wouldn't trade for the world," he added, hugging Dax with a grin. Releasing his grip and letting his paws flop to the side, Jaxom sighed as he thumped his tail upon the ground. "So, up for a game?"
Dax couldn't help but keep a devious smirk within the corner of his maw, his ears perking forwars with interest. Leaping off from upon his father's carrot hued chest, Dax swayed his tail behind him and noddded fervently.
"Hide and seek?"
Dax nodded again, shifting his weight from each forepaw as he became anxious.
"I can go for a bit of hide and seek but if you try and give me the slip," he chuckled, emerald orbs settled upon his son as the ever present warm, compassionate smile inhabited his maw.
Rolling his eyes, the black and white swirled male flared his nostrils and stammered his forepaw. "I won't. I promise. But I get to hide!"
"Okay," his father replied, slowly turning around as he began to count. "Twenty, nineteen, eighteen, seventeen-"
With the countdown commenced, Dax slinked his forepaws forward and suddenly bounded off into the small grove of trees. His sleek, black fur with the white swirls could be an asset if he could only utilize the shadows as well as anything white. Bounding within the small clearing there was a sound that seemed to catch his interest- a sound that made him forget about the game.
What was it? Was someone-
"Crying?" Dax whispered, ears perking forwards as his gaze was drawn to a small heap lying halfway submerged within its waters. By this time and by the end of Winter, the waters carried the melted snow from the mountains and the lands and whatever it was was better off within the cold to find warmth and shelter rather than letting its body become captive to the waters. Knitting his brows, Dax slowly padded up to the unknown.
"What is-"
Coming closer, the icy blue orbs of the pup widened as the heap was really not a heap of nothing at all. It was a wolf; it was a female pup. But what was it doing in a stream? And all alone? Pinning his ears against his skull, the young pup whined softly. He never was good with meeting strangers and even, sometimes, he had a hard time interacting with his own family besides his parents and Fenuku. Battling with himself within, Dax flared his nostrils and nudged the pup with his muzzle.
"Hey...you gotta get out of the water," he urged with a persistant whine within his tone, "...let me help you..."

Moment by moment that the merciless night went on, the eyes of the wolf slowly began their dangerous decent down into sleep. On occasion, the pup would perk up, trying to bid her exausted body to stay awake just a bit longer; yet it was beginning to become futile. Debating to herself that a few moments of sleep would do her no harm - her instincts knew otherwise. As a yawn cracked open her jaws to reveal the peral canines, her eyes closed for but a moment.
"It wouldn't...hurt.." She whispered, as she slowly began to slip from the night which began its consumpiton of the sun pelted femme.
Wether it had been moments or hours, Bindi couldn't tell when the sudden paw thuds of another alerted her to attention. Unable to lift her muzzle to check, she figured it had been the fox which followed the scent of her blood and ingured state to finish her off...fitting. After all this time of fighting off a frozen death, would she be done in by the same creature which placed her in such a predicament. Choking back a sob, the paws were now beside her as her breath halted.....untill a nudge came.
Cracking open her own ice orbs, she turned to look into a mirror, well, eyes that is. The pup before her was black as night with eyes of a saint, heck, he was a saint to her. Smiling gently despite the situation, her paws slipped under her body as she tried to stand before slipping and falling right back in. Seems her limbs were weak from the freezing conditions and pain for too long that they couldn't support her weight anymore; even if she was the runt of a litter and thus wasn't big to begin with.
Leanding her head to the side on the sand, she looked up sadly to the other pup....his concern was kind, yet futile. Just like her mother, she would be left here for nature to pick away at...it was fate. Even with such a downcast demeanor, that smile remained on her maw.
"I can't...my body doesn't work."

The mysterious, icy-blue orbs of the male pup softened as he gazed into her own blue eyes. He knitted his small brows and gave a soft, comforting smile. "Then we'll make it work," he replied with a soothing whisper, keeping his voice low.
Nudging her once again as his jet black muzzle brushed against her blonde fur, Dax scampered into the frigid waters. At first, he bit his lip as the chill seemed to cut down to the bone but he didn't have time to let himself become distracted or worry about himself. There was real danger at hand and this time the battle was between the small female pup and death itself. A strange feeling compelled him to not walk away, to not run- but to stay near her and help her. He didn't think she did anything wrong to deserve to be left in the cold and why should she bear the sentence to face death as well?
Stumbling behind her as he water seemed to seep up past his legs, Dax pressed his small shoulder into the backside of her flank as well as his head. "When I start pushin' you try and crawl up, okay?" He announced with a quite, somber tone. He always had trouble being able to open himself up and show decent emotions; Jaxom and Faile and his siblings found ways to make him express himself but, other times, it was hard.
Intaking a deep breath as he flared his nostrils, Dax began to push as well as was as pressing forwards with tiny steps to help get the female out of the water. He was gritting his teeth as his paws seemed to sink deep into the silt of the stream and making it more than a challenge to keep himself balanced. But that strange feeling continued to stir within him- making him nervous and anxious, making Dax feel like he could do something to help. As he pushed again, he slipped and fell into the water. Coming up, the black and white swirled pup shook his sopping wet body and supressed a shiver.
How long had the female pup been here? And how could she tolerate such intensity?
She had to be strong and, like his Dad had said, the will to live could drive onself to do anything in order to be able to live once again- to be able to see the next sunrise.
Dax wouldn't let her slip away.
"Try to crawl as I keep pushin'....you can do it!"

Taking in a shaking breath, the numbness of her body made it possible to remain in the ice stream with little pain unlike one would feel when they were infact warm. Shifting her eyes back to this ebony angel, the comforting smile warmed her soul as when she looked deep in those watery pools....she couldn't help but feel that hope. Hearing his words, the pup relaxed as she left her life in his paws and would rely on his instructions to ger her through; not really having any other choice in the matter.
Gaining a new spark of energy as the water splashed about her pelt when Dax entered the water, her head lifted and looked back to see the poor boy sumberging himself into the frigid waters in order to save her. Her heart went out to the selfless pup who exerted himself on her account - the account of a complete stranger. Never before had she seen such bravery, such compassion in another wolf....not even her own mother and father. Nodding her head softly, she fought back the tears of sheer admiration for him before whispering out weak, "Alright...I will."
Upon feeling the pressure of his head as he pushed her body towards the shore, Bindi began to muster what little feeling she had left in her frail body. Growling as she unlodged her front paws from the sumberged sand and then the other to thrust out before her as claws dug into the more stable ground on shore. Shifting her back legs, standing wobbly as she couldn't controll her balance due to the sensation of the ground couldn't be felt; she instead had to rely on her forepaws to drag her rear out of the water. Glancing over her shoulder to see his soaked body due to the slip, his encouraging words almost made her feel stronger....she had to get out for him, he had done so much for her to just give up.
Using the last reserves of her strength and will to live on, she let out a grunt and heaved her body out of the water as the wind drifting over her wounds began to sting at her nerves. Reguardless of her pains, her violently shaking legs managed to hold her body up as she glanced back to Dax before taking the steps back into the water to n** at his chest and slowly tug him back to shore just to make sure he didn't slip again. Once both safe on dry land with it's soft yet horridly chilling winds, she was no longer able to keep standing and simply collapsed at his paws. Breathing shakily, her muzzle lifted up to nuzzle his leg and paw, barely able to get out her chattered gratitude. "T-thank y-y-ou...we d-d-d-did i-iht. Than-n-nk you..."

Dax gritted his teeth, ears swaying back as he pushed against the small female. She didn't look well at all and for any wolf to stay in the frigid waters for so long would certainly leave ones body weak, helpless and drained of all possible energy and strength whatsoever. His jet black ears perked upwards as he felt her body shift, feeling it slowly pull up the silt of the banks and from out of the waters.
As the female stood up, Dax tried to follow behind her but was slow to act as his paws were buried deep within the silt of the stream. Furrowing his brows, the black and white swirled male slowly began to trudge from out of the waters when a sudden and unexpected n** caught him by surprise.
Lifting his icy, blue orbs up, he me the soft, blue eyes of the wolfess as she continued to n** at his tuft of fur on his chest and help him out from his bit of trouble. A warm, small smile curled upon his maw as he followed her lead up from out of the waters and back onto dry land once again.
"At least we're out," he commented with a small, sheepish grin. But his small smile seemed to fade away as the small wolfess collapsed at his paws, trembling and chattering as the cold was begining to take its toll upon the young pups body. His orbs widened as a frantic frown seemed to take its palce upon his small maw.
"You gotta keep warm!" He exclaimed, suddenly shaking his fur free of what water he could and curling up besides her. As his mind seemed to race, he felt her muzzle brush against his leg and his white tipped paw. Stalling momentarily, Dax looked down towards the female and smiled.
"No, you did it. I just helped you think you can." Settling down and curling around her, Dax nestled against her in any attempt to keep her warm and sustain heat for her. But his little body wasn't enough to help them both retain warmth.
They needed someone else.
"Dad!" Dax howled, a solacing cry filling the night as the game was now long forgotten; they needed to save a life. "Dad! Help!"
Jaxom had meanwhile been searching, confused by looking for such a crafty pup within the night. He should have known it was more than impossible but that would have taken the fun out of the game away. A grin spread across his maw as he neared towards the small grove of trees, stepping lightly he halted in mid step as the small howl of his son rang audibly through his ears. His jaw practically dropped as his emerald eyes narrowed towards the cluster of trees while his fur seemed to bristle and stand one end. "Dax!" He exclaimed, his heart racing as he lunged in great strides, weaving around the trees and stumbling forwards as the two shapeless images could be seen within the dark huddling together.
Wasting no time, the tawny and carrot colored male rushed to both his sons side as well as another pup. "Dax," he panted, lowering himself to his stomach as he nuzzled against him. "Are you alright, son?"
The jet black and white swirled pup nodded his head slowly, "Yeah, I'm okay but she's not," he inclined as his somber, blue orbs glanced to the small female pup he was nestled around. "I found her laying in the stream and she's tried, Dad. She's got wounds too." Furrowing his brows as he laid his head upon the female, Dax whined softly.
"She'll be alright, won't she?"
The beta's heart felt as if it had shatterd within his chest. How did this pup get into such a bad state? The run off water from the mountains was ruthless, cold and icy and even he had a hard time being able to cross the rivers and streams during this season. The pelt of the female and his son were soaked and being exposed to the chill of the night could take away ones very life. As his son mentioned the wounds, Jaxom's calm, serene eyes drifted over the females body and noted the small bite marks much like a wolfs but too small. Perhaps a fox, then? Biting his lip, Jaxom rose to his paws and stood in front of both Dax and Binding and sunk down to his stomach once again, repositioning himself to curl around both the pups.
"Time will tell, Dax," he smiled softly, mustering up one as best he could. Swaying his ears back as he looked upon the female, Jaxom tenderly nuzzled her as his compassion and sensitivity made him act as if she was one of his own pups.
"Are you alright?"

Sighing out in a soft breath, her blue orbs gazed up at the worried face of Dax...her true angel. If it wasn't for him stumbling upon her, she probably would have drfted away down the stream into the hands of the earth. However, it seemed that she had other plans in this vast world...it wasn't time just yet. Feeling the slight warmth increase as his body curled around her own, her muzzle moved to rest under his own as her shaking decreased. No matter how she looked at it, Bindi knew she owed this boy her life wether he would agree or not...and she was okay with it.
Upon his urgent cry for his father as the voice carried beautifully on the wind, Bindi's eyes cast down to her paws. Oh how many nights she cried out for her father, her mother....anyone to answer her plea. Unfortunately, all she was met with was silence...the same howl of the wind as if to mock her cries out for love. That time was over now, as she had equipt a invisible shell to the world to protect her from being hurt - yet her happy fascade was nearly impossible to decode to see her inner termoil. Father...such a word she longed for and dispised.
Perking her ears as the thunder of paws against the terra alerted her senses, her head shifted slightly to glance as the large male came through the bushes. The harvest colours of his pelt looked nothing like this pup, which complexed the femme so; yet it wasn't uncommon for characteristics of erlier generations to arise. Both her parents had earthy eyes, while her's were a vast blue...apparently her great grandmother had blue eyes. Trying to focus on anything bit the pain, she let out a soft yawn as she snuggled up against Dax, feeling the flood of warmth when his father curled to keep them both warm. It had been a long time since she felt the warmth of another beside her, and she really enjoyed it.
The nuzzle suprised her, almost so much that she could have jumped. Looking up to the pup's father, it was as if he didn't mind that she wasn't his own - some adults were nice, but they wouldn't act like such. Closing her eyes, she smiled and returned the nuzzle - not wishing to be rude to such a kind gesture. Dax was so fortunate to have a father like this.
"I am...I still hurt a bit, but its alright." She spoke softly, her chatter had dimished quickly. Looking between father and son, an odd sensation of security and emotions flooded her heart. Even if it was just for tonight, she would embelish in this feeling of family...and remember it long beyond her years. "Thank you, both of you. I don't know how I can repay you." Her ears flopped slightly, perhaps she could bring them something when she learned how to hunt...or something like that. Replacing her smile on her lips, her small blonde tail wagged slightly against Jaxom as she realized she didn't know either of their names. "My...my name is Bindi, by the way."

With his father's warmth encircling him and being nestled close to Bindi, Dax nuzzled against her and rested his head right alongside the blonde females. The ebony and white swirled pup loved and respected his father dearly although, at times, he was reserved- Dax sometimes became too quiet and found it hard to relate so easily to his family aside from Fenuku. But Dax knew and constantly felt of his fathers brimming, constant show of affection, apprication and tenderness towards him and perhaps the small pup would find the strength within himself to show it more frequently if only it wasn't for the strange sensations and thoughts that caused him to become numb, cold and distant.
A warm, sweet smile spread across the beta's maw as the young pup nuzzled him back. Whining softly as his carrot tipped tail thumped around them, Jaxom nodded his head. "You need rest," he commented softly, a gentle and soothing tone abiding within his voice. "It does no good for a wolf who is injured to be left out in the cold or on the banks of the small river."
It seemed that, at Jaxom's age, it became apparent to tell if the pups around the woods certainly were abandoned or wandered alone due to neglegent parents, by human greed or by tragic events. The tawny and carrot colored male knitted his brows slightly as his calming orbs of purest emerald seemed to peer into the tired and weary blue pools of the female. "Bindi," he repeated as the name seemed to flow off the tounge in a rather pleasing manner, "you don't have any family around here, do you?"
The ears of the black and white swirled pup flickered as he perked his head upwards slightly and glanced towards the female. "Bindi," he smiled softly, pawing at her ear and nipping at it in a tender and delicate manner. "I'm Dax."
As his youngest son seemed to be making a new friend and feeling comfortable around her, Jaxom kept a small grin tucked away at the corner of his maw. He didn't need the young female pup to answer as it already was apparent and clear to him that she, like many other pups who wandered lone within the woods, had no family. The woods was the very place where he and his brother, Damu, were given the chance to forge a new life and to learn how to survive although they managed survival without one anothers help.
On the other hand, the woods were also a cruel place where lives were taken, wolves suffered the loss of loved ones and where mankind roamed with their strange sticks that echoed like thunder and those who bore the sharp sticks. Death was common, loss was ones constant companion and death was ones next door neighbor. The woods would deal any blow to whatever cards one held within their hands and, too frequently, there were those who lost everything including their own life.
A plan slowly began to formulate within the mind of the beta.
"Would you like to have a family, Bindi? You can come and live with Dax, my mate Faile and our three pups as well as myself. It's better than being chased around by other wolves and foxes and I can assure you you'll have warmth, food and a family. What do you say?"
Suddenly gazing over towards the wolfess, Dax let the same broad, warm smile cross upon his maw as he yipped. "You can stay with us! And you can have a family and meet my siblings! Come on Bindi!"

"I didn't mean to go into the river...yet when the Fox suprised me in the burrow, I fell in and it eased my pains." She confessed lightly, dipping her head down as she realized that Jaxom was right. It wasn't smart for her to be all on her own, yet what could she do? The only family she was ever aware of was her mother and father; who knew where they even were now?
"I do..." She began, her voice seeming to gain a distant tone as her memories resurfaced of that morning. Everytime these scenes came up into her mind, her throat seemed to close and her eyes begcame blurry...how could they have done that to her? At the same time, it seemed so unlikely that they would do that to her as her parents loved her so much like she did to them. What caused such a split in the family bond they shared?
"...but...I don't know where they are. One morning my momma told me to meet her at the field, since she had to go to the pack for a small bit and get daddy...then she never came back. I stayed at the field for days...yet s-she didn't come back.." She breathed, nearing breaking point but composed herself again. "She's never broken her promises. I know she's out there somewhere. She told me so.."
As Dax began to play with her flopped ear, Bindi was thankful for the lightened mood and growled playfully even if it was too light and airy to pose real threat. Careful not to move too much to discomfort Jaxom, she rolled halfway into Dax and nibbled at his cheek and ear. "Its'a nice to meet you Dax!" She squeaked, pawing at his muzzle with a 'coo.
As Jaxom spoke up, her mouth slowly unhinged from from Dax's ear, Bindi listened intently to what his father had to say. She could see his lips moving, yet her dazed demeanor stopped at the word family, only hearing it said a second time. Even though she had just met the wolf, he was already welcoming her into the sacred family bond, the one she had been stripped of. It perplexed her to how kind some wolves could be, and why she was so fortunate to meet two of the best examples she would ever see of such compassion. Her head swirled with thoughts and emotions, as her gaze slowly tilted from Jaxom to the excited form of Dax whom seemed eager to the idea to adopt her as the title of 'sister'.
Unable to help her little blue eyes from tearing up, Bindi smiled as gratefully as she could and nodded. "I..I hate to be a bother but I would love to, so much. Ever since I lost mine, thats all I've wanted. Thank you...thank you.." Sniffling lightly, she shifted her body and nuzzled both Jaxom and Dax...her newfound Brother and Father.

As he listened, the tawny and carrot colored male nodded his head as his eyes became blurry with tears that were being repressed. Within the small females voice was the distinct tones and audible realization of pain, suffering, confusion and immense sadness. How and why her parents never returned and left her within the fields was something Jaxom wanted to unveil, another mystery he'd like to excavate and bring into the light of truth.
The black and white swirled male growled playfully as his ear was seized upon with nibbling and the female was nestled closer to him with a hint of spunk. A small grin snuck onto his maw as he pressed his nose against hers and looked into her eyes with a serene, calming gaze. "You too, Bindi."
Within her eyes there abided emotions that Bindi was allowing to pent up inside, emotions that would bring wroth and torment to her soul if she didn't allow herself to cry. Even the strongest of wolves cried, grieved and sang their solace to the full moon, chorusing the night with their songs of pain and anguish only to sing as if no one was listening above and there was no shame in having to break down. To have endured a life of despair and loss at such a young age was tumultious- Jaxom knew and could sympathize with the young female of what loss was and what it felt like.
"I know your pains of losing loved ones," he replied in a somber, empathetic tone. "When I was your age, my pack was killed by humans and the only ones who survived was my brother and I. But- but even these days we don't keep in touch because of something that happened barely a year ago." Gently lowering his head as he nuzzled both Bindi and Dax, Jaxom looked towards Bindi specifically and lowered his muzzle near her ear.
"Don't let your emotions well up inside you, Bindi. If you do, they will consume you- trust me, I know. It's okay to cry and neither Dax or I would think any less of you. You're so strong for such a young pup, don't underestimate yourself, love."
Shifting his position, Jaxom curled himself closer towards the two pups as he crossed his forepaws and rested his head upon them. To be able to see a pups eyes light up with the offer of a family, warmth and a new life made his heart swell! Bindi, or any pup, didn't deserve to live a life of chance or have to suffer alone. Besides, the pups were the same age and the blonde wolfess and she would fit in perfectly with the family and, with Faile being an acceptive and loving mother, there was not a doubt in his mind that she wouldn't mind adding one more to the family.
Jaxom couldn't help but chuckle softly as he shook his head. "A bother, oh my daughter, you are never a bother. You're a part of our family now and never think that you don't belong because you have every right too."
Nodding along with what dad had spoken, Dax smiled warmly as he tenderly nuzzled against his new sister. "We're family and family sticks together."
