I've come to the conclusion that you get more if you post more. At least, it seemed to work like that a lot before the flying trunks and giftboxes could only be retrieved by links.

The last one I got (blue giftbox) was after a boosting boost after the Halloween event. Since then, my posts have increased even more dramatically and I haven't gotten a flying rare event yet.
Of the ones I've opened, I've gotten a Old Skewl Orange Headgear and a Flower on my Head from brown, a Prisoner's Shackles from blue, and a Helm of the Vikings ( scream ) from a pink (I bought).

surprised That makes sense.... I guess that's why people get those items more often during events!
