I bet Ozai was pissed because Ursa didn't tell him her plan. Ozai must be jealous of Zuko because of that reason and initially wanted to ban him. Yet Ozai can't do it out of no reason, even IF he was Fire Lord, so when Zuko spoke up, Ozai took that opportunity to get revenge on his son because of what Zuko made Ozai's wife do.
We can't really rule out jealousy in this, can we? Nor the fact that it has never been stated that Ursa died...she may show up, just a possibility. Though, it'd be a good twist as well if she was the one that will teach Aang firebending...

my theory is alot like everyone elses. When i watched it, the part with the mom screwed me up. at first, i thought she got killed off. but masybe she took off to save zuko. and azula is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO going to betray zuko! She is sooooooooooooo like that. personally, i think it would be cute if zuko ended up teaching aang firebending cuz in the one episode (i cant remember what its called but its the one where azula is chasing aang all night and they end up in the old western village thing.) they ended up working together...so my zukky heart she be good...eventully! blaugh

The Ursa-killed-Asulon theory is a fairly solid one (mostly due to lack of evidence contrariwise), even though Zuko's mother seems too gentle to commit murder. Then again, she married Ozai, so there had to be some spine, there.
I'm of the opinion that Azula is once again ensnaring her brother just so she can have the fun of killing him herself along with their father. Because, you know, she's psychotic and power-hungry like that.
