1984 is ok but I've read better distopian novels. Brave New World, We, Anthem...
Mm, Anthem doesn't even compare with "Atlas Shrugged", and "The Fountainhead". Being the little Ayn Rand nerd I am, I had to sneak that in there.
"1984" never really caught my interest (Though I did read it all the way through), and I still need to get a copy of "Animal Farm", I've sadly only seen the oldschool movie.
I have to say that Anthem did a much better job of simply saything the kind of thing that 1984 was trying to. I don't Orwell terribly, but I can understand why people do. and regardless of whether or not it compares with her other books, I think Ayn Rand's Anthem was very good if it is the only one a person ever reads. It's simple enough for late middle school early high school student to get if they really want to.
I didn't like Animal Farm, though that may be because I don't like talking animal stories or dictations on communism so it was an imbodiment of all that I spite. Again, good points, but didn't really hit home for me the way Ayn Rand has.
