gun_girl What bothers me the most is I have a frind on DA who spent hours on this one drawing then she did a drawing of Grr off of Invader Zim and she had more attention on the Grr then the one she put her heart and soul into. i know what you mean about this: on elfwood, i drew this little bunny thing about 4-5 years ago. it looks much like a 3 year old's drawing. somehow, this is still people's favorite picture out of the 60+ drawings i have in there (most of which have some merit). how, i don't know. but it bothers me. gun_girl I don't mind the guy on guy as long as it has meaning and yes the Naruto x Saske and the Rock lee and what ever his face is, does gett annoying. I don't see anything wrong with same sex pictures as long as it's more then " OMFG THAT'S SO HOT!!!' I did a same sex pictrure of two girls to fight back at the guy on guy things, and it had meaning and everything to it, but all I got was ' That's discusting and wrong and perverted' yet the half nakid guys in bed togeather isn't. Mine drawing wasn't even perverted for crying out loud. I see nothing wrong with same sex love drawings as long as it's about love, not sex... and yes the girls with D-cups, lol please that's just and eye rolling moment rolleyes But I guess since most anime comic readers are young boys they can only dream right? see, now, i have no problem with same sex love/sex pictures. i really don't. but what i do have a problem with is when artists take two (or more) very heterosexual characters and make them homosexual together. it's much like when people pair characters from different games/animes/shows; there's no way they would get together, period. as far as it being about love and not just sex, well, that'd be nice. BUT, i don't get as bothered by generic sex (hetero or homo) as i do from easily recognizable, completely incompatible pairs (or groupings, bleh!). i have to say this, though: while i'm not bothered morally by sex pictures, i do hold such pictures to a higher standard. if an artist has the guts to do a sex picture, it had better be a damned good one; i better be able to feel the heat from the characters. otherwise, it's just distasteful to me.

I'm not fond of sex pics at all, be they hetero or homo. There's a reason why it's done in private and not out in the streets like dogs, birds, etc. It's a very private thing and should be kept as such. I'll get off mah soapbox now. mrgreen
I still kind of wonder if half the populous of Japan is gay... Obviously, a male character in a cartoon can't have a male best friend for whom he cares for like a brother without being gay as well. Or the friend is gay... stare
ANYWHO. 12 year olds in D-cups?? Weirdos... It's kind of like Rei and Asuka from Evangelion. You can find all these... obscene pictures of them and they're only 14, for cryin' out loud! What kind of message are we sending to the young people of our day and age?

like you said about people drawing two hetrosexual characters as gay...I think that's just...I dunno..what is it with people doing that? it's bad enough making a girl and a guy character hook up..like..Lara Croft and Solid Snake...it's just..wrong I say! xp

@Euclids- Japan, ironicaly, is much less homophobic than America or other western countries... My god, my school had a festavle while I was there, and about 75% of the boys were in full blown drag... It was rather funny. Also, I got asked if I was gay once or twice... And all the kids thought it was so cool that I had gay friends. -_-;
Oh- and quite a few of their male comidians are cross dresser. Look up Gorie-chan sometime... There's a full life size statue of him/her in the narita airport.
But yeah... Characters that hate eachother should always hate eachother. They shouldn't secrently havesex or be obsessed with the other person... It's just annoying...
And I agree that if there is a sex picture, the artistic merit should be outstanding. If it's badly drawn or colored... it's not hot...it's just BAD

my friend won't stop buggin be about drawing her sasuke x naruto yaoi. i was "NO!" and she's like "PLEASE!!!!"
anyways, speaking of cross dressers, there are many many beautiful men in japan, and most of them more beautiful than women. (which is sad.) anyways, we were looking at pictures of hyde from L’Arc~en~Ciel (a japanese boy band) and my lesbian friend walks by and says "hey, who's that chick? she's kinda hot!" now we joke that my friend might turn straight after all. xd

those japanese bands creep me out, like Luna Sea, Malice Mizer, or Dir en Grey...they're all so feminine. i swear, every time i see a picture of Mana i think it's a girl. it just isn't natural...
@euclids: i agree with you on the sex thing to an extent. i mean, if everything that was supposed to be private remained private and was never in art at all...that would be pretty boring. it seems like we'd pretty much have portraits, landscapes and still life pictures and...that's about it. thats how i see it, anyhow. now don't get me wrong, i don't like looking at super explicit sex pictures, but i see nothing wrong with drawing something which can be a raw and beautiful expression of passion and love. but unfortunately, tasteful sex pictures are hard to find XD

Wanna see what MOST Japanese cross dressers look like? *evil* Link1Link2Link3...Yeah... On the explicite artwork stuff, I recently did a report for my art history class comparing the french roccoco to the japanese ukiyo-e. Oddly enough, there are alot of similarities... The french paintings were well known for being all about sex...

@Cap'n: xd
I have to admit, I'm not much into many of the Asian males, but Hyde's pretty cute.
@Ulterior: ... Really? They make up for it in anime, though. xd
Those pictures... Oh, gosh... xd They didn't even bother with a wig or anything...
The French were like that anyway. That's partially why it's called the "Baroque" period anyway, since "baroque" means extravagant, gaudy, excessive, complex, etc.
@kirio: Yes, Mana looks so darned female, it's not even funny. Wonder why they've gone with that trend... *goes on a research trip*
Eh??? Why would motion be kept private??? But I see what you're getting at. So, I shall rephrase: such close intimacy as sex should be kept under wraps and not waved around. I don't mind kissing, etc., but when it starts getting provocative and brings up the lustful side of intimacy, then it's gone too far.
Looking back at that paragraph, do I make any sense? sweatdrop

To the main point of this thread I have to say that it is all just one giant popularity show. The amount of real artists who know what they are talking about are over populated by bumbling idiots who have little to no concept of what makes good art good.
I don't dig the whole Manga/Anime thing for the most part anyways, so normally I don't see it as a very respectable branch of drawing but then there also are amazing peices which I think are breath taking. Really just depends on the artist's technique and concepts, as with all art.
I enjoy erotica. Plain and simple. Except, with any art, it needs to look perfect.
Heh.
Cross-dressers? First off, they most likely have far more balls than anyone here for freely expressing themselves the way they are. I have so much respect for them. !Don't Diss the Drag! Second, I can show you some pretty damn nasty looking broads and some pretty damn attractive cross-dressers.
Dirty_sox3 (Heh, I forgot what you said everyone calls you here...) I remember that day, oh god. By the way, JEE THANKS for trying making my girlfriend attracted to cross-dressing asian men! I have no chance on keeping her if we ever travel to asia! Heh. Oh and I'm telling Dani that you spread this stuff on the net. Hehe. =3

It's usually anime that gets explicit where sex is concerned...fans of different anime guys and girls drawing sexually explicit pics..I don't get it...if you fantasize over a cartoon you need to get a life sweatdrop

Euclids: hm...i definately see your point(s), and i agree: i'm not so into explicit/borderline (or 100%) porn pictures, nope. i don't really like what i tactfully refer to as "naked heaving in the dark," however, i do believe that pictures with sex in them CAN be tasteful, but they usually arent. for me to like it, it has to be masterfully done (with oodles of passion, love, etc. not really into the lust thing unless its very not-showy, because you can see lust in someone's face, don't need a full body thing for that), otherwise i'm just like "wtf, why would you draw/paint/photograph that?"
as for privacy, i both agree with and don't agree with it. it is a very intimate and very private thing that shouldn't be plastered everywhere, but at the same time, i believe that art should have no bounds, especially not in the realms of emotion. so i'm torn.
whew. now i don't look like a total perv, lol.
@ulterior: those pictures, aesthetically, raped my eyes. i hate looking at bad crossdressers, but i like talking to them, and i do have a lot of respect for them (unless they do it for attention, which has, sadly, become something of a trend).
@jackal: its true, some "normal" people are pretty friggen ugly, and some cross-dressers make REALLY good girls/boys; it makes me both jealous and uncomfortable when i see a cross-dresser that looks better/more feminine than me....but meh, at least they're good at what they do, and they flaunt it mrgreen

I know what you mean, I don't like it either.
Not to mention, even if the person is 'hot', it doesn't make it a good peice of art.

First of all... I love you guys.
Second, to get along at DA you have to have very good tunnel vision. Just... don't look them. Just don't. Don't do it! gonk
Art has always been flaunting sex. I mean, look at the manuscript pages in the middle ages and such... with those hands placed precariously handling air in front of crotches (I think that sentence could make sense). Also with what was said earlier about Baroque and classical art... Venus, and Jesus, oh god, look at all the horrible fan art he has! And let us not get into Pompeii. People are just more connected now, adolecent immature kids can show off their mad skillz and project their fantasies without being commissioned to paint a chapel for someone else, that will cost a mint and better damn well be top of the line. "Art" is free and easy, and free is cheap. So easy, cheap sex.
Cheap, easy, cartoon... sex.
I think I'm going sob under my pillow now...

@Illegal Snail: Aye.
@Hackney Equine: You should post in the chat thread. We like to chat. 3nodding
You've brought up a true point. Modern technology has allowed more people access to the populace, so perhaps what we see has always been there, in a way. I think people also have a lot more time on their hands. Boredom is the Devil's workshop, as the old saying goes.
