Tufani stumbled into the den she had lived in since she was a juvenile, the den in which her brothers and sisters had been born, and the den in which they grew up. It was a special place, almost as important to her as the thorn patch.
Now, though, everything was strange. Her belly had expanded trememdously since the little...mistake...and now, sharp pains were coming to her, far worse than the random kicks she had felt as the cubs grew.
It is time...I'm going to be a mom! she thought to herself, and she desperately looked about for her mother, praying that the jackal would return in time to help her through the birthing process. She had no idea what she was doing, and she was terrified of something going wrong.

Jani'mwiba was carrying a gazelle leg in her mouth, walking at a slow pace back toward the den. Tufani had been getting so big lately that Jani had ordered her not to stray far from their home. She worried that she was in over her head this time; the jackal knew there were definitely several cubs that Tufani would have to give birth to without the aid of the father. If Jani ever found the worthless creep...
But something was not right...as she climbed up the rock path to the den, Jani could smell blood of a different sort than the gazelle blood that stained her mouth. It was almost as if...
"Tufani!" Jani cried as she dropped the leg and ran the rest of the way to the den.

"Mom...help me..." the black lioness panted as the first tiny cub fell to the floor of the den. He had a few white splotches and lightning markings on an otherwise black pelt, including a marking on his nose that reminded Tufani of a bug. She cleaned his coat of the blood, but as she looked at him with his tiny eyes shut, she couldn't help but notice that he looked so much like...well, HIM.
[insert Andrani's cub]
"I'm scared..." she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "What do I do?

Jani paused for a moment to take in the sight of her grandchild, who looked so handsome. Then, she wandered over to him and nudged him toward his mother's side. "Everything is going to be okay, Tufani...I'm here, and I'm not going to leave your side. You just worry about getting those cubs born and fed...I'll take care of the rest, don't you worry."

Letting out a squeel of agitation, the tiny cub wiggled at his mother's tongue. A single white paw stretched out, marked only by black lightning bolts. He wasn't pleased about the rough tongue, but he would have to deal with it. Eyes tightly shut, he soon settled down, finding his way to his mother's warm belly. Other than the white, and a tiny hint of silver at the end of his tail, he all but blended in as he let out little pleased squeels.

Tufani concentrated on the calm sound of her mother's voice, trying to ignore the stabs of pain that kept going through her. One thing was for certain; she was going to be very careful before something like THIS happened again. Her first son seemed to be doing well, and it wasn't long before first one, then two more fell to the floor.
The second son was black with a white streak down his body and white lighting markings that were similar to Tufani's markings. He still had a little splotch of white on one of his front paws that showed who his father was.
The third son bore very little resemblance to Tufani. He had black lightning markings on his face, legs, and tail, but the rest of him was various shades of grey. He almost looked like a little raincloud.

Jani watched the proceedings carefully, making sure that each of the cubs found their way to their mother's side. However, Tufani seemed to be getting the hang of the birthing process as well as any new mother could. Jani was starting to wish that the lioness had been there to witness the birth of her siblings.
She couldn't help but notice a pattern among the children. Splotches...she thought to herself. The father must have splotch markings...If a splotched lion came near her, she would certainly look at him differently than any other lion. Poor unfortunate soul.
Well, that was odd. The little grey boy squirmed and stretched as he tried to get used to his surroundings. Why wasn't this new place as warm as the place he came from? What was this wierd rough thing touching him? What was going on?!
Oh...that thing moving him kinda tickled in a good way, and now he was next to two warm things, and whatever this new sensation in his mouth was, it felt good. Maybe this place wasn't so bad after all.

Tufani braced herself as the pain started once again. Just how many children was she having, and how was she going to take care of them all? Just as she was starting to doubt, she looked at her mother, who was taking such good care of the children...and she knew that they'd manage somehow. She just wanted to get this whole giving birth thing over with!
For a change of pace, a little girl came into the world, a girl with a mostly white pelt, though if her markings and pelt had been reverse colors, she would have greatly resembled her father.
Tufani sighed in relief as she noted the child's gender; she had been hoping for at least one little girl for all her trouble.
She didn't have much time to relax, though, for soon came another little boy. This time, he looked like her reversed, with a black foot marking that came from his father.

Jani couldn't help but be shocked at the number of cubs Tufani was bearing. She had expected several, but five was a bit insane, especially since she and her daughter would be raising them without the help of the cub's father figure. It was as if she had been expecting a small litter due to the circumstances of the cubs' creation.
"You're doing well, Tufani," the jackal said. "It'll all be over soon, if it isn't already."

"It...isn't..." Tufani said, bracing herself once again. But she knew from the burden that had been lifted from her that this cub would be the last one. She started crying with joy after the last little girl fell to the ground, a cub that stood out for having no markings that were noticable on a first glance.

It was over...she was a mother of six, just as her mother was. And now that the painful process of birthing them was over, she could see just how wonderful they really were.

The world that the second son had known for the past few weeks had changed drastically from warm to cold and hard. Squealing and mewing loudly in complaint, a strange sensation came from the middle of his body as he blindly crawled around. It didn't take him long to bump into his mother's side and feel her warmth. He did not even notice his other siblings until more started to come. But, all was lost to the little black and grey cub as he found his new source of food: his mother's milk. Little mouth opened and closed after much trial and error before the rich, warm milk came out. His mewing calmed until none was produced from the cub as he was content with drinking his first meal.

The little white cub took his first breath... it smelled of earth and warmth, despite the fact that the little cub felt cold... Utterly cold. He searched frantically for a moment, but to no avail. As he calmed, he could feel where the warmth was radiating from and headed to that source, snuggling into the fur of his mother quickly. He searched for a source of food in the warmth and found it, letting the warm nutrients slither down his throat.

World! Well it was chilly out here and with sightless eyes the pale daughter nestled ehr way in to her motehrs belly suckling rapidly as she found her space at the milk bar. A tiny meep of happiness, somewhat contentness left her body without her mouth acctually being open tiny dark tipped paws kneeding her mothers side until her belly filled and was, before long, a little drum of a thing.
Rolling on to her side, and enjoying the new different warmth of the world around her, she let the stresses of birth roll away from her tiny mind and curled close in to her mothers downy belly to sleep. This didn't seem topo bad, though someone was squished against her, someone else equally furry as she was. If the concept of sibling was yet in her mind it wasn't obvious, the little lightning bolt daughter slept oblivious to the world for now.

Letting out a bit of a squeel, the silver-tailed dark male pawed at everyone intruding upon his space. He didn't know it, but these other five warm bodies were his brothers and sisters. At least, he didn't know it yet. Exerting as much energy as a tiny cub could have, he soon found that the warmth was welcoming. Something told him they were good, familiar bodies. And so, with a little cubbish grunt, he snuggled against someone and fell asleep.
