- When you spend an entire month's living expenses stipend from college on a RAF coat a la Captain Jack. (Actually shipping costs were the murderous part, the coat was really heavy and had to be shipped overseas quickly.) You wear it everywhere, and have a moment of panic in the summer when consistent 90 degree temperatures force you to finally put it away.

- Despite the fact that I did this, I still do not beat the guy who I've seen walking around town for about 10 years now dressed like the 4th doctor. <3

- You get a phone call from your mom, who's just bought way too many pears because they were on sale and wants to know if she can drop some off at your apartment. You recite the doctor's line about pears from "Human Nature", and hang up... then five minutes later realize that she wouldn't know why it's funny, and have to call back to apologize for being strange, and ask her to please bring the pears over after all.

- While your peers were spraypainting their names or gang symbols on every bus stop, park bench, and highway overpass in the neighborhood, your single youthful graffiti-related indiscretion was when you snuck out and painted the corner phone booth blue

...if this review makes you feel near murderous.

Sandstorm Reviews

While the idea of a group of rogue Timelords is an absolutely terrific one, it's hard to forget that they come from a long line of two-dimensional Doctor Who villains whose main job is to run around in a gravel pit wearing a rubber suit. Some aspects of the Faction Paradox just look weird, for example their insistence on wearing skull masks in public, which is a clear hangover from their low-budget origins.

It's not so much the slating of Doctor Who I object to, so much as how incredibly ill-informed it is. Given that Faction Paradox have never been in the television series. So how they look's got nothing to do with 'low-budgets origins'. Costumes are very cheap in novels and audios.

Oh, I dunno. It has a wee tiny bit to do with "low-budgets origins", but not how that guy was thinking. Doctor Who likes its kitsch, thank you very much, so even if the budget goes up or costs go way down, there's going to be quarries and dorky-looking baddies and only four Daleks per scene, just for old times' sake.

And I thought another defining feature of Faction Paradox was that they don't cast shadows? Yeah, really low budget, that. Of course, I could be mixed up...

You make a strong point, and have therefore calmed me down. I got round to listening to Cuddlesome yesterday, and my imagination could have visualised the eponymous beasties with total realism...but instead it insisted on making me picture them as they would have looked if realised by a strapped-for-cash 1980s special effects department.

You're on the right lines...they do have shadows, but the shadows aren't always thier own. Thier shadows are usually much more heavily armed for one thing.

The Doctor though lost his own shadow for a few books starting in Unnatural History, but that was because the Faction were grooming him to take on one of thiers.

One of the weirdest things about all this happened in the audios when the Faction was briefly reinstated as a House of Gallifrey, only for some of its members to find out that under Time Lord law they were responsible not just for thier own actions but for the actions of those that thier shadows had previously belonged to.

-When you misread 'Lady Romayne Close' as 'Lady Romana Close'.
-Whne your first thought, upon realising your mistake, is 'I must post about this in that friend on the Doctor Who guild!'
