I myself am a dedicated fantasy reader, first brought into the world of swords and magic when I was given a copy of the first Lord of the Rings book for my twelfth birthday (Indeed, I had no intention of reading it until three years later). Since then, I have delved into the books of many fantasy writers, such as R.A. Salvatore, Margeret Weis, and Richard A. Knaak.
For those who enjoy this genre, who would you say is the lord/lady over the swords and magic in a fantasy book?

I think Charles de Lint is the best. He writes amazing urban fantasy.

I have to say I think J.R.R. Tolkien is pretty well the best, but there are so many others worth recommending. Jane Yolen for example, or Anne McCaffrey. I just love the genre in general.

Granted I havn't read a good fantasy novle since I like october and have a bad time rembering authors...If your looking for something for a younger audince then Diana Wyne Jones or J.K. Rowling. For a more mature audince I say J.R.R. Tolkin.
