Of all the days of the work week, Friday was always the worst. As the afternoon drummed on, Asher really wanted nothing more than to go home. The seconds were ticking by painfully, as she dutifully uploaded expense sheets from a palmtop to mentally check, sort and download back onto mnemonic chips for filing. As the manager of the administrative assistant pool, it was one of the most tedious chores of her job, and one that required too much attention to detail to do in her impatient mood.

After the fourth calculation error, she sighed, wrote the whole endeavor off as counterproductive, disconnected the dataplug, and sat back, rubbing her eyes furiously.

"Three new processors... caller voice recognition software..." she muttered aloud, staring at the ceiling. "Talk in the pool about new mass information storage capabilities... are they really replacing the admin pool altogether?" The very idea made her cover her hands in despair. "We man the lines, there is no true substitute for human interaction in consultations.. they can't just replace us altogether.."

A loud knock on the door nearly brought Asher to her feet in surprise. She looked up, startled; one of the older admins and a longterm coworker, Simone, was standing in the doorway, giving her a strange but amused look.

"Hey," she said, "it's 5, it's been pretty slow this afternoon, think we can just call it a day?"

That sounded like the best idea she'd heard all week. She slowly stood up, cricked her back, and smiled. "Sure.. wanna go get a drink? I could really use one."

Simone grinned "Why not? But lemme take you somewhere new this week, I went there once, and it was fantastic. It's this place called Club Cyberia, and they're having this giant reopening party..."
