I have diabetes. Fun, right? Right! I get to weird out people by taking shots every day! YEAH!
So anyway. Share stuff from when you were first dianosed? Here. I'll start! blaugh Roughly three months before we figured out that I have diabetes, my dad was diagnosed with type two diabetes. We wanted to have me checked out for it, but my doctor was a dummy and was positive that I didn't have diabetes, even though I had lost a whole of TWENTY POUNDS in the last two or three months. She figured that I was being all healthy, or something (i was kinda chunky before my diabetes. heh.). She diagnosed me with depression, put me on anti-depressants, and sent me off to see a shrink. xp Eventually, my parents got me to let my dad check my blood sugar (right after eating two soup bowls of strawberry ice-cream), and it was in the 500's. The next day, I was taken to my dad's doctor, and was officially diagnosed with type one diabetes, three days before my birthday. Nice birthday gift, huh. My dad gave me my shots for the first week or so, but after that I kinda took over. I don't even let my parents give me shots anymore.
And after that was pretty much the usual daily life I had, except that I had to take care of my diabetes. And the mental breakdowns from realizing that I had an illness that would never go away. Pheh. 'Bout as much fun as sitting in a kiln for six days. burning_eyes
Your turn! 4laugh

x_xamethystx_x i don't have diabetes but um, how do you "get" it? and do you need to eat differently when you have it? Diabetes is genetic. It usually comes from your dad's side, but you can get it from your mom's side of the family, too. And yeah. You have to eat differently if you have diabetes. I can eat all the stuff I did before, I just have to watch my servings. xp My dad has type 2, and he's supposed to be on a diet to lose weight, because, if you lose the extra pounds, your pancreas (it's the organ that makes insulin) will sometimes start functioning normally again. talk2hand

I don't have diabetes, but my doctor sent me to get blood work done to check for diabetes. Something about losing 10lbs in the past few months... Personally I'm hoping it's just my lifestyle change.
I think a cousin of mine has diabetes.... I can't remember exactly though. Its something weird. But other than him, no one I know of in my family has diabetes. I'm not sure I'd handle having diabetes very well..... gonk
Kudos to those who have it and live with it though. I'd admire you all.
