Tulip's been reading the Advocate again, and when she does that...well...she refers to herself in the 3rd person and has a lot to talk about. Well, I found a rather interesting article on homosexuality and genetics. First I found a fascinating study on the effects of the scent of sex hormones on gay men, straight men and straight women (why not lesbians? Well... the hormones thing doesn't seem to work for us) The sex hormone found in male sweat activated the hypothalmus in both gay men and straight women but not straight men. The sex hormone from female urine stimulated straight men, but not straight women or gay men.
Another thing from the study showed that the scent of sweat produced by gay men was preffered by other gay men than the sweat of straight men, women, or lesbians.
They included in the article a timeline of studies which showed homosexuality to be genetic: 1991- A study of twins. Approximately 52% of identical twins of gay men, are also gay opposed to 22% of fraternal twins and 11% of adoptive brothers. 1991- Simon LeVay studied the brains of dead gay and straight men. 1993- Researchers say they have found a gene which determines male homosexuality found on the X chromosome they get from their mothers. 1995- Male fruit flies begin maring with other male fruit flies once their body chemistry was changes. (In 2005 they got the same thing with female fruit flies) 1999- Tones produced in the inner ears of lesbians are found to be weaker than of those in straight women.... why? 2000- Younger brothers in families with many male children are found to be more likely to be gay. 2003- The blink reactions of straight and gay men and women to loud noises are tested and reaction times prove to be significantly different between homosexuals and heterosexuals. 2004- The genes that make men gay also cause their female relatives to be more fertile and have more gay children.
I often wonder... why do so many studies focus on gay men?

Yeah, I read an article about pheremones (the sex smells) being responded to differently with gay and straight men. My city's newspaper also ran an article about how one fraternal twin is 22% more likely to be gay if the other one is. I'm a fraternal twin so I started teasing my brother about how I upped his chances of gay-ness by 22% by being a lesbian. I think he felt emasculated. xd The rest, however, I havent' heard before. That's really interesting.

Very interresting. Also, one day when I was browsing the forums someone had posted This article on the same topic. I havn't actually read all of it, but yes, some of you may be interrested. The thing though about the gay-gene is, well, it just doesn't make sense to me. Gay people can't have babies together. Therefore, they cannot pass on a gay-gene. Straight people have babies. Babies grow up and become gay people. Straight people don't have a gay-gene. Therefore, ...? o.O Anyway, yeah, it always does feel like anywhere you look it's only gay men that people talk about. Anywhere on TV, it's always gay men. Whenever there are lesbians, they're allways portrayed with short hair and rather manly. Eh.

Maybe it could be a type of hormone.. >_> I dunno but it doesn't seem likely that theres a gene that causes homosexuality, especially if the study of females didn't turn out like males. (shrugs)

Babies grow up and become gay people. Straight people don't have a gay-gene. Therefore, ...? o.O Yes, but it could be like lefthandedness...obviously lefties can pass on a gene, but I mean, they're saying there might be a linked set of genes that cause lefthandedness, which occurs in varying degrees, the same way there can be homosexuality in varying degrees [i.e. bi, gay/les, trans...]... I don't know lol. I'm just weird like that. And tend to associate lefthandedness and homosexuality with each other. [note my handle lol...I'm a lefty ^.^]. Which I guess is ironic since GWB is [I think?] lefthanded... rurica Anyway, yeah, it always does feel like anywhere you look it's only gay men that people talk about. Anywhere on TV, it's always gay men. Whenever there are lesbians, they're allways portrayed with short hair and rather manly. Eh. It would seem that that's the case, although not exclusively... there are instances of female relations in the media where they're not at all masculine...though I can definitely see the complaint. IDK, I think for some reason people find male homosexuality more humorous [i.e. the Fab Five...The Bird Cage...] and female homosexuality less so.
