My school finally has a GSA. The meetings aren't announced on the public announcments. Instead, the original people joing signed a petition to let the club be there, and everyone who signed were given passes to go to the first meeting.
So far, there's thirteen participating members, including me, out of a school of three thousand. I'm telling all my close friends about it. They want to be members, but don't have the transportation. That'll work itself out in time, hopefully.
So, discuss: GSA in a school setting Problems GSAs tend to encounter How school demographics affect membership

Oh! Congratulations. x3 My friend is planning to set up a GSA in my school next year, but who knows how that'll turn out. Anyway, that's awesome. Hm...tell me this, about how long did it take to organize all of this? From start to finish, I mean.

Not to bud in or anything, lol.
It took my school about 2 weeks to actually go through the "process", but it was under debate with all the pre-members for a few months because we didn't know how to go about it. Once we got all our s**t together though we just had to fill out a couple forms, make a proposal, and within a couple weeks we officially had a GSA. ^_^

Congratulations! That's always good. At my school, the GSA was recently renamed... I heard from friends in it (I don't have time or room to be in the club sadly) that it was to promote equality, since pretty much all of the people joining were homosexual, like everyone thought that it was just a "gay club" and that the word straight in Gay Straight Alliance was disregarded... However, I think it was changed because my school is SUPER homophobic and uncomfortable with anything with the word "gay." The name of it now? Orientation-Nation. ._.

I'm glad I got replies. 3nodding It took about a month to set up our GSA, and we all meet in private. We only have three teachers as sponsers. But I guess that just happens if the majority of the school is African-American/Hispanic. So far, we have 3 lesbians, two bi girls, one gay, and everyone else is straight. Out of thirteen....so that's......7 out of 8 are straight. That's a good number. I think.
Oh, and I design our shirts. 3nodding Yay. Glad to hear about the other GSAs too. blaugh

We have one advisor (looking for a possible seconde) and we have 2 gay guys, one who I *think* is gay, two lesbians, one girl who is straight, one bisexual guy, and one straight guy, and me...the pansexual. So thats about 9 people...three of which are not students. Hopefully, you will be able to announce at least the fact that there IS a GSA in your school in the public announcements. Possibly state the professor's names so that anyone who is interested (truly interested) can find out when and where the meetings are. It will keep things safe. congrats on the great accomplishment!!!

I don't see what the stastics mean. It shouldn't matter the orientation, but that's just me.

Not to mention I love statistics. 80% of you didn't know that. 3nodding Oh, and this is a High School GSA (in reply to Raeden Michelle).

You have more students participating in GSA than a college group. That is impressive! You should let all the members know that I am really proud of them for doing a better job than a college group. And no, the stats don't really matter too much, but it *is* nice to see what kind of students are participating. It helps because then you can gear your advertising more towards certain demographics.

Eheh, thanks. Our next meeting is the day after Valentine's Day. Seems just about right. I'm still amazed that we could get it off the ground. People here are pretty closed minded. (Btw, this is the very southern tip of Miami, FL.)

Good luck. I'd try that with my school if I had more support. There is just so much homophobia. I know, it's the more reason to start it. I'll see, I guess. Congratulations to you though!
