The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre Presents The 7th Annual Del Close Marathon Friday, July 22 through Sunday, July 24th
Del Close was the driving force behind improvisational comedy in Chicago for over 30 years influencing Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Mike Myers, John Belushi, Chris Farley and the Upright Citizens Brigade to name a few. After Del's passing in 1999, the UCB started the Del Close Marathon to celebrate their mentor and keep alive his name and teachings for future generations.
How does it work?
From 4pm, Friday til midnight on Sunday night, there will be long form improvisation on the UCB stage. When one show ends, the next will begin (usually every 30 minutes). It's a nonstop cavalcade of the best improv from NYC and around the country, mixed in with some of the strangest late night improv shows you may ever see.
Why only long form improvisation?
The art form that Del helped create and nurture over several decades was long from improvisation. That's why we only accept long form improv groups and shows for this event. The point is to celebrate Del's life work.
How do you get there?
Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre 307 West 26th Street (between 8th and 9th Avenues) By Subway: Take the C/E to 23rd Street, or Take the 1/9 to 28th or 23rd Street
If you live in New York you should go. It's for three days straight. Many, many celebrities show up. A lot of them are from SNL and MAD TV. A lot of them are in some shows and they'll stay and watch everyone's show. It's a huge event. And now for my shameful plug...I'm in a couple of the shows. Come see it. It's a huge thing.

So the Del Close marathon is almost over. It was awesome. My show went great. Matt Besser, the guy that invented the type of long form our show, and also a famous improvasationalist, was in the audience and he laughed his a** off. Also Horation Sanz was in the audience just laughing his a** off. It was awesome. It went really great.
