I was just wondering if anyone else had read this wonderful series by Naomi Novik. When I first started reading it I thought it might be another Pern rip-off, but it's really not. I can't wait to get through the 3rd book. I really really hope that if they ever make a movie off the series that Peter Jackson does so. The fact that he showed interest in it is hopefull. (Still waiting for him to make the hobbit though crying )

I am waiting to get the third one as well. Personaly I would love to get one of those Jade wing dragons! Those sound so cute! I mean, come on! a dragon that, when it sits on it's haunches is only eye level with a man? Talk about your pocket dragons! blaugh

Oh excellent, I knew she was planning on writing more, but I had no idea when they'd be coming out. I loved the first one, and the other two are quite good as well. Damn you september, why must you be on the far side of summer.

I just finished Empire of Ivory--and it ends on a cliffhanger! Aaarrrggg!
There is hope though (whited out for spoiler): There is an afterword written yers later by one of the boys rescued from Africa, which implies that he survived and prospered. I don't think he would have without being Laurence's support.

I just picked up the first two books from my library (they have the fourth, but not the third...) on the recommendation of a friend. Can you tell me if they're really good or just okay good? (They sound awesome.)

I thought they were great. If you're expecting Dragonriders of Pern, you might be disappointed. There is no mental bonding, though the dragons do love their captains, and you're still dealing with a society entrenched in the Napoleonic era. The majority of Europeans see dragons as tools, despite their intelligence, and that plays into some major themes in the books. Then again, I found the various culture's attitudes toward dragons just as fascinating as the minitary procedures.

I didn't notice the illustration. Thanks. (I understand about the spoiler, plus it had so many misspellings it was embarrassing.)

I'll it to the other twenty-some books I have out. sweatdrop While it isn't Pern in the least (and I do love my Pern), i love the story. 4laugh

The latest book is out: Victory of Eagles! It's hardcover, and I'm currently the first in line when the adult department at my library gets a copy ordered.
