I wasn't a vampire fan until Buffy. Then I found myself seeking movies like Interview With The Vampire, which I don't recommend unless you've read the book, and ... well... I can't think of another decent vampire movie... But anyways!

In my book searching, I came across this book: Narcissus in Chains. The title itself made me pick up the book, and I read the first paragraph and new I would love this book. The line that did it was this:

Considering that she's a private detective and I raise the dead for a living it was pretty ordinary talk. Sex, guys, turning thirty, vampires, werewolves. You know, the usual.

I laughed out loud and immediately had to purchase the book. I later found out it was the tenth book in the series, and I have just finished reading book 8. It's awesome.

The series is called The Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Series. It shares a few similarities to Buffy in that they both have a strong female lead, and the lead has a vampire boyfriend (and a werewolf boyfriend) and later, in book 8, Anita meets her Giles. The books actually got a review saying "It's an R-Rated Buffy The Vampire Slayer".

I strongly recommend these books for a slightly older audience. The books contain sex scenes, discusses rape and contains explicit violence. ... Much like Buffy...

Is there anything you all have discovered?

Yea, I am almost done with the first novel. I think I will go ahead and buy the second Anita Blake book, too. It's pretty good. Simple chapters, but good.

It is simple, that part of what I like. I mean it's far from great American Literature, but it's a hilarious read, the author has a fantastic sense of humor.

Indeed she does. Her writing tyle just makes me want to keep reading. I love how in the first book, they keep you guessing about the murders until the end. No solid clues until the final chapters. I'ts awesome.

I already bought the second book.

Nice! Circus of the Damned, the 3rd is my favorite so far. I'm on the 11th. Definately. The incorperation of real life politics and ... rules? It's awesome.

I'm also reading the Buffy novel, "Queen of the Slayers". It takes place right after season 7 finishes, right on the their getaway bus. I need to organize my time better to finish A BOOK! lol

Oh my god that sounds awesome! I didn't know they had one that takes place right after. I HAVE to check that out. I'm so stoked now!

Oh my gosh THANK-YOU so much. ASAP I'm finding it.

I think I have to warn you though. I just finished Incubus Dreams, and wow. I'm almost at the point where I have to say enough. There is SO much sex I'm embarassed to take it in public. It's still got the crime-plots and stuff, but it's become a total sub-plot.

I heard the later books become very sexual. I hope it's not sexual as erotica literature. Please tell me it's not that bad. I mean, yikes! Subplots!?!?! Geez.

I have a feeling it might dive there kinda soon. I'm still on board with the series, but I'm hanging on by a rope. It's kindof at a point right now where it could go either way, and I'm willing to find out which way it's gonna go. There are some books in the series that are awesome and you should stick on to read, like Blue Moon and Obsidian Butterfly.

Oh I think I'm still gonna finish with the reading, but my mind starts comparing it to erotic literature, then I must stop. But hey, if you say the reading still has ways to go before it falls into that path, then I shall be content. I hope this is not a continuing pattern with the books passing that one. I am really enjoying the second book.
